On the contrary, imprisonment could give them time to think about what they had done.
What difference do you see that would make the mass murder of Jews punishable ex post facto, but not the mass murder of unborn babies?
Well, I suppose freedom of speech and of the press would also be out the window, under this pro-life government; that is, anyone who openly espouses a pro-choice position could be thrown in jail. Contraception would also be outlawed and – why not – heavy jail sentences for repeat offenders. I also think free elections would be a no-no; any pro-choice candidate would automatically be excluded from office (and then thrown in jail). There would be lots of political prisoners. On the contrary, imprisonment could give them time to think about what they had done.

This government would also need to convince the international community that it is not violating the rights of its citizens, else it will be viewed as just another rogue theocracy (no different from Iran in its practices). You would have doctors leaving this country and taking refuge in other nations; other nations that are still “pro-choice” and that would refuse extradition requests. In fact, we should count ourselves lucky if it doesn’t start World War III.
