Adoption can be the right choice for some people, but I have a real problem with promoting it as the right choice for all teens. I am especially offended when people suggest it is the only correct option because I married and had my oldest child (now an adult) at 18.
There is research and personal experiences that suggest that if a teen mother does not want to give up her child, she should not be pressured to do it. There are some websites- I will not post them, you can find them yourself if interested- that recount life long wounding and hostility from BOTH adopted children who felt abandoned and mothers who lost children they wanted to parent. They make the point that if a mother wants to care for her child then adoption is a permanent solution to a temporary problem (finances).
