Daily update:
Telegraph has an excellent op-ed:
blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/timstanley/100215019/after-gosnell-the-mainstream-media-is-finally-talking-about-the-realities-of-late-term-abortion/

“The reality is that much of the abortion industry is indeed an industry – it functions for profit, exploits desperate women and sometimes is happy to break the law. Its crimes can no longer be dismissed as too small, private or lurid to be ignored. Its attitude towards the babies that survive its procedures is nothing less than a scar on American society.”

Interesting piece. Thought this was worth highlighting:

Abortion providers:
An industry
Preys on desperate women
Happy to break the law

So much for “reproductive rights” it’s really just “follow the money” Ironically the Left is always critical of the evil rich (unless a rapper, actor, or athlete) and pretend that their defense of abortion is to protect women…PUH-LEASE!

Losh re your previous post, anyone see a statement by former Gov Ridge as to why he stopped inspections?

Watched the preview of the Fox Documentary. They repeated the story that had been in another article regarding a l972 experiment where a radical feminist group brought in 15 women in varoius stages of pregnancy for an “Abort In” The technique was barbaric and experimental and more than half of the women had complicatoins, some serious. But that was the inauspicious beginning for this man.

I’ll be DVR’ing it. We have Adoration on Friday night and a good opportunity to pray for those little souls in heaven.

Thanks for sharing. I’m recording it also. Shared it on FB.

Great idea! I try not to share too much but when it comes to the issue of life and abortion I go for it. A couple of people at our Easter potluck said they appreciated the information. Sadly the MSM does not cover pro life issues.

Hatred of his own race, and really all humans, for money. What an evil man, and he’s not an aberration. I’ll watch but I’m sure my husband won’t enjoy watching me cry…I really want him to see this too.

9 out of the 15 women had complications, at least one required an emergency hysterectomy.

He was the back alley abortionist that Roe was supposed to protect us from.

Instead, he just became legal. He didn’t serve any time for this “experiment”. The device was invented by an illegal abortionist. The description of this device makes me feel very queasy.

Agreed! It sounded TRULY horrific as if the man were a sadist from day one. Here is someone who could have been an incredible role model for his neighborhood. A doctor who was raised there and could have come back to help the people who grew up with him. Clearly no compassion for others.

BTW no indication he was a man of faith. Isn’t it sad and strange that a black doctor who COULD be such a role model, Dr Ben Carson, is attacked by the Left because he is a Christian and doesn’t believe in gay marriage or fornication. But a black doctor who kills his own people is ignored or worse, given some kind of justification by the defenders of abortion.

I try not to share too many political opinions either, but I do the pro-life stuff. At my high school reunion, my classmates told me they really appreciated my posts. Turns out one of the started Our Lady’s Inn where I volunteer.

👍 wonderful! We never know what seeds planted will bloom! Sometimes I get a little nervous about sharing but hey if they don’t like it they can unfriend me I guess! It could make a difference in a positive way so I keep that in mind.

Update first, then replies:

The Jury seems to be talking about the charges against Gosnell now, and have asked for clarification of which baby was which. I do hope this doesn’t mean they’re trying to find the least number of babies (ie, reasoning that just because one saw a baby breathe, another heard a baby cry, and another saw a baby move, doesn’t mean there’s three babies).

I’d imagine some political pressure, though I cannot find anything discrete. If it’s internal politics, ie as opposed to an outside complaint (as in the case of Catholic universities who are often threatened with suit by a government entity to cover contraceptives for students), there’s not likely a paper trail.

The inspections seemed to be cursory to begin with, and I think that administrative incompetence played a major role before politics even set in. Insightful history from the Grand Jury report, pages 8 and 9 (report link:)
phila.gov/districtattorney//PDFs/GrandJuryWomensMedical.pdf

“The department had contact with the Women’s Medical Society dating back to 1979, when it first issued approval to open an abortion clinic. It did not conduct another site review until 1989, ten years later. Numerous violations were already apparent, but Gosnell got a pass when he promised to fix them. Site reviews in 1992 and 1993 also noted various violations, but again failed to ensure they were corrected.
But at least the department had been doing something up to that point, however ineffectual. After 1993, even that pro forma effort came to an end. Not because of
administrative ennui, although there had been plenty. Instead, the Pennsylvania
Department of Health abruptly decided, for political reasons, to stop inspecting abortion
clinics at all. The politics in question were not anti-abortion, but pro. With the change of
administration from Governor Casey to Governor Ridge, officials concluded that
inspections would be “putting a barrier up to women” seeking abortions. Better to leave
clinics to do as they pleased, even though, as Gosnell proved, that meant both women and
babies would pay.
The only exception to this live-and-let-die policy was supposed to be for
complaints dumped directly on the department’s doorstep. Those, at least, would be
investigated. Except that there were complaints about Gosnell, repeatedly. Several
different attorneys, representing women injured by Gosnell, contacted the department. A
doctor from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia hand-delivered a complaint, advising the
department that numerous patients he had referred for abortions came back from Gosnell
with the same venereal disease. The medical examiner of Delaware County informed the department that Gosnell had performed an illegal abortion on a 14-year-old girl carrying
a 30-week-old baby. And the department received official notice that a woman named
Karnamaya Mongar had died at Gosnell’s hands.
Yet not one of these alarm bells – not even Mrs. Mongar’s death – prompted the
department to look at Gosnell or the Women’s Medical Society. Only after the raid
occurred, and the story hit the press, did the department choose to act.”

We struggle against the ruler of the darkness of this age (Eph 6:12). The minds of those who oppose us are darkened by him (Eph 4:18).

One of my favorite local charities. I ought to send a donation. When I was in grad school, our newman center would volunteer there once in a while, to clean rooms, beautify landscaping, etc. God blesses so many mothers through OLI.

You did a great job with the landscaping.

I returned from a Pro-Life meeting where a long time pro-lifer was beaming about his wife’s nephew, J.D.Mullane, who had been instrumental in shaming the mainstream media into coverage of the Gosnell case with his “Empty Chairs” photo of the reserved seating for journalists. Not sure if this has already been posted, but I found this story …

slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/politics/2013/04/kermit_gosnell_abortion_trial_conservatives_took_to_twitter_to_shame_mainstream.html

A Jury of Your Peers
How conservatives used Twitter to goad the media into covering the trial of abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell.

By David Weigel|Posted Monday, April 15, 2013, at 8:38 PM
It worked. An estimated 106,000 #Gosnell tweets later, on April 15, Mullane reported that major networks and newspapers had sent their reporters to cover the trial—Fox News, the New York Times, the Washington Post. Hours later, after bombs went off in the last leg of the Boston Marathon, hopes of pushing this to “the front page” waned. But in between the Twitpic and the breaking news, there’s a lesson about how conservatives can use social media—and only social media—to move the press.
Later that day…
“ ‘Anybody who is seen taking pictures, we are taking the phone and throwing it in the toilet,’ ” said the bailiff, according to Mullane. “ ‘You’re never getting it again.’ That’s one reason, maybe, that TV isn’t interested in the story.”

Kermit Gosnell Who? Video Shows Americans Don’t Know Shock Abortion Doc

Pro-Life Leaders Blame Media for Coverage on Gosnell, Baby Killing

Why is the Kermit Gosnell Murder Trial Jury Taking So Long?

Casey explains that under Pennsylvania law, all 12 of the jurors must reach a unanimous verdict on any of the murder counts Gosnell faces for him to be convicted on any of them. Each of the elements of a charged crime must be proven to each juror beyond reasonable doubt for that juror to vote to convict on that count and one reluctant juror could lead to a mistrial on any of the first-degree murder charges.
The length of deliberation does concern me. However I wonder if the jury has reached unanimous agreement on some of them but not others. I am having a hard time understanding the statement I clipped out. I hope it doesn’t mean they need unanimous agreement on ALL of the charges to convict on ANY of them. I don’t think so. That would be an impossible standard. But maybe they are not unanimous about one of the charges and thus taking a lot of time? One one renegade juror who thinks real court is like CSI and everything is proved beyond ANY doubt…I think that’s why Casey Anthony got off. The bar is too high.

Plus all of the non-felony charges! The list is long…hundreds of charges and counts.
That will take time.

When I sat on the murder jury, we did have to be unanimous although it was only one count of murder. If they have to be unanimous on ALL the counts, I can see it being a really long deliberation. We had to go back over the case for 2 jurors to vote guilty. They just felt bad for the perp and didn’t want to be the reason he went to prison. It was emotional more than anything, but at first they said they doubted the evidence. So we showed them the whole thing all over again, basically, and at the end of that, they voted guilty too.

I think if Gosnell doesn’t get at least life, my faith in the justice system will never recover. I think he should serve one lifetime for each life he took. I realize he’d never get out, but it would seem like justice to hear the sentence read out. Would 10,000 years cover it? Maybe. Maybe it would be more.

Did anyone watch the hour long special on Fox News channel last night on this man? I knew it was horrible, I knew what he did. But I didn’t know about his mother’s day massacre nor that other clinic workers had already plead guilty to murdering babies born alive. It’s impossible for me to have any sort of charity for this man at all. He brings out the absolute worst feelings of vengeance in me for all those murdered children. I just can’t comprehend the evil that he is, it’s so hard to wrap my head around it.
