Looks like it is the lead story out of the Americas at Grandma’s, in the USA, we have BBC America here on satellite.

I thought they made it difficult in England to get “late term abortions” but I don’t personally know this. So to me, it seems the American system with abortion is quite a runaway though now, states are getting some things done and actually, in the last few decades, many abortion clinics have been shut down, largely through pacifist pro-life advocates I would say.
I think it is rare, but there are some cases they can be performed after 24 weeks (the legal limit), including what could be described as “eugenics”-type reasons:

nhs.uk/conditions/Abortion/Pages/Introduction.aspx

"There are also a number of rarer situations when the law states an abortion may be carried out after 24 weeks. These include:
  • if it is necessary to save the woman’s life
  • to prevent grave permanent injury to the physical or mental health of the pregnant woman
  • if there is substantial risk that if the child were born, s/he would have physical or mental abnormalities as to be seriously handicapped
Generally, an abortion should be carried out as early in the pregnancy as possible, ideally before 12 weeks."

I’ve heard pro-life activists argue the “mental health of the pregnant woman” can be stretched to cover a lot in some cases.

In my experience abortion is just mostly not talked about too much in England. In an RE/philosophy class debate in secondary school I recall most in the class joined the pro-life side by choice, and both sides agreed carrying an unwanted baby to term and giving him/her up for adoption if need be was preferable.

I don’t know if the link will work but I will copy some of what Abby Johnson posted:

So I guess I am a hater because I think Kermit Gosnell should get the death penalty?
the death penalty won’t bring back the babies he killed. It would just speed up him facing **God’s Jury **and that won’t be pretty unless he repents. The man is 72. I’d give him a sentence of life in prison for the rest of his life, nothing but bread and water to eat and drink, solitary confinement and NO PRIVILEGES.

And I really hope there will not be a presidential pardon!

Again, I ask the “catholics” who voted for Obama to explain why they voted for a man who SUPPORTS what GOSNELL DID!

I thought the President could only pardon or reduce the sentences of those convicted by the federal or military courts? Wouldn’t the prerogative of mercy be in hands of the Governor or the state body established for that purpose?

Its one thing to debate whether Gosnell should get the death penalty or not. I have no problem with that. What I have a problem with is when I am called a hater or have hate in me because I think he should get the Death Penalty.

There are no words for how horrific this is. At least it’s coming out so these butchers can be stopped.

you know they won’t be…not unless we get down on our knees and pray the rosary every day. These butchers will continue as long as femi-nazis keep demanding abortion without any consequences. These butchers will continue as long as human life is not valued and as long as many remain ignorant on HUMAN BIOLOGY and FETAL DEVELOPMENT (some people still don’t understand that Man+Woman=Baby…women don’t get pregnant on their own!. These butchers will continue as long as we have a pro abortion president in the white house.

Gosnell was found guilty and is in jail, so he was stopped. I’m not a defeatist, I’m grateful for every stop we make to stop the killing of babies, even if it’s one “Dr” at a time. Praying the rosary is great but prosecution and legislative action is required.

Last article particularly worthwhile as it’s written by a “pro choice” reporter who is at least honest enough to realize that the P.C. (funny how it’s the same initials) community fought every time there was a restriction or higher standad proposed:

***Having read the grand jury report, I have to say this to my fellow pro-choicers: we helped create that situation. Not intentionally or knowingly, and not because being pro-choice means you want to kill babies. But we focused so hard on access that we failed our equal responsibility to think about safety–and the danger of rogue abortionists who were terminating viable infants…

I was rather astonished to find, when I went to their website today, that NARAL Pro-Choice America thinks that Pennsylvania abortion providers are excessively burdened by health and safety regulations. The grand jury report on the Gosnell case indicates that the exact opposite is true

She is not going to become pro-life but at least agrees that you should not kill viable babies.

I think this will clearly help the cause of ratcheting back second and third trimester “abortions” aka infanticide. Even the average pro choice person realizes that if you can’t kill a baby once his/her body has exited the birth canal, what justifies killing them when they are simply a few inches higher? That will be pretty hard to defend.

I am hopeful tha states will continue to take the lead. Some have enacted very strong legislation and this case will help justify wider support.

There is an article at the bottom I accessed. Through Chicken Noodle News in which pro life groups are termed “anti abortion” and it’s quite clear the slant. Here are some words from the dark side that will give you an idea of this perspective:

says Jessica Arons, head of the Women’s Health and Rights Program at the Center for American Progress (bolded)

**I think this push for ‘born alive’ laws is really about the same thing that the campaign against ‘partial birth abortion’ was about – to make people equate abortion with infanticide," Arons says.

“What they value more than anything is winning a messaging war,” she says.

“This idea of an infant being born alive in the process of a botched abortion and people not making efforts to resuscitate – I think that’s a myth they like to propagate. It’s just not something that really happens.”**

Anti-abortion rights groups say the Gosnell case serves as a reminder that it does happen.

It’s amazing that they can see photos, videos, trial transcripts and still claim babies born alive is an urban myth.

You can say the same about those who deny the holocaust. We have survivors that tell horror stories. We have pictures. We have the places that the innocents died. Yet, people DENY that the Holocaust happened!

Abortion is a HIDDEN HOLOCAUST…its happening, but until people wake up…well, I don’t want to have to see a Museum of Abortion History opened in 50 years showing pictures…just to PROVE abortion killed humans!

The death penalty can also be a deterrent for other people when they see what this evil being is getting as his justice.

But I just heard that Gosnell waived his right to appeal in exchange for life in prison. So that’s decided.

Misko, 27, said jurors felt it was easy to see premeditation on Gosnell’s part.
I would hope so, but quite honestly, what astonishes me is the journey of a soul that sinks so deeply into darkness they can be totally callous when they know their deliberate intent will terminate the breathing of a human being, one completely at their mercy. And one they have seen in totality, with little arms and legs moving and possibly even vocal at that point. I mean whether a believer in the Almighty or not, what happens to one’s conscience, that which determines when a line has been crossed from being human with a capacity for compassion for something completely helpless - to something altogether different. It is Satanic.
