Try to look at it this way. Being raped is a horrible experience. The woman who is raped is a victim. But if she becomes pregnant via rape, half of the genetic information present in her unborn son or daughter comes from her. The unborn child is
her child, even more so than the rapist’s child because she carries her child in her womb.
The woman is a victim. The child is a victim. Why should rape have the effect of turning a woman, who has already been victimized, into the murderer of her own child? And why should the child die? What did he or she do? What is the reason for his or her murder?
If anyone should be punished, it is the rapist. And he should be punished! Not an innocent child!
Your thinking is clear. You are correct when you say it’s wrong to kill another human being, no matter the stage he/she is at.
It’s also true that it’s wrong to kill another human being who has had the misfortune of being conceived via rape.
If the child will remind his/her mother of her rape, she has the option of giving her child up for adoption. There are no unwanted children. There is help available for the mother - psychological counseling, help with food, rent, utilities, furniture, maternity clothes, baby clothes, diapers, etc. There are always people around to help. A 13-year old child probably would have problems raising a child, although I knew a woman who was raped at 13, gave birth, and kept her child. She didn’t regret her decision. That child is now an adult.
All one has to do to find help is to call the local Catholic Church (or church of their choice) or the local Chamber of Commerce. There are also phone numbers for various organizations in the phone book. I was amazed to find all the help that is available in the little town where I live.
I hope this helps! God bless you!
