Great news!!! I just read a report on the Pennsylvania Pro-Life Federation web site that abortions and the ratio of abortions to population decreased since President Bush took office. Evidently this came from the reasearch arm of Planned Parenthood (an organization I believe is totally pro-abortion).

Here is the story:

I believe this gives us great hope, but we must keep the pressure on our legislators. Believe it or not, I believe that they do hear us, particularly when the e-mails/letters come in great quantities regarding the same issue.

Do you agree with me that we should let our legislators know that we will not support their re-election if they cannot show positive actions during this term regarding abortion?

In Christ,
Bob

The news undercuts the argument that voting for a republican would be less effective then voting for a democrat in fighting abortion.

A republican can reduce the number of abortions and a the same time work nominating Judges that would reverse Roe vs. Wade.

Lifesite May 30th:

Washington Records Lowest Abortion Rates in State History

Still, the numbers are staggering (I had no idea).

Must as I would like to credit Bush and the GOP, while they can set a tone, there isn’t much any elected official can do . It is the bleeping ACLU/PP/NCJW/NARAL lawyers and judges. They run the industry, one of our two parties and the judiciary.

For now.

Thus, we must do everything within our power to insure pro-life politicians and judges get into office. Presently, we are a little low.

What do you mean? I thought the dems wanted abortion to be “rare.” I heard JFK say that in the last debates! Something like, “safe and rare.”

I’d settle for judges who interpret the law rather than write it.

Oh yeah, I guess that’s what you said. 👍

Now if we could only remove those “obstacles” from getting them confirmed…

According to the report, 25,106 abortions occurred in Washington state in 2003 with* 4,609 on girls between 15-19 and 8,534 on women between 20-24**. There were 115 abortions on girls under the age of 15 years old – indicating abortions are being performed in the state on victims of statutory rape.*
Code:
***About half of the women who had abortions in 2003 had already had at least one previous abortion**. Approximately 20 percent of Washington women had more than one abortion previously before their 2003 abortion.*

*In 2002, there were **25,446 abortions,** and the 2003 figure represents a 1.3 percent decrease.
While I am extremely thankful these numbers are declining. Look at where they start! Let’s put that in another way - when we hit 1,000 deaths in Iraq, it was all over the news as a quagmire, a tragedy, etc. And here is a death toll 25 times that in ONE YEAR, and people are fighting to keep it going!!! That’s insane I tell you. A life is a life! The 1,000 were brave soldiers fighting for their country. The 25,000 were innocent children who just wanted to be born!

Stunned me. I’m new to the pro-life movement (I was laissez faire and stayed away) so I don’t know how much these numbers are hammered home. They are, I think, more effective that "so many tens of millions " since Roe V Wade. Especially when the ages of the girls are mentioned. They must be so hurt. And they will never, ever be the same.

Yes I do. We must keep plugging along, taking the victories we can. A small victory now and then, in the right direction, is better than continually going full-steam down the wrong path.

Put it in a way they can understand: 25,000 voters and donors being killed…

Catholics who are pro-abortion look for ways to keep it legal and claim they want to reduce the number of abortions by expanding government social programs.

The third way

By Joe Feuerherd

T
he professional pro-life movement’s plan for America is straightforward: replace the current pro-Roe Supreme Court majority with justices who will vote to overturn the 32-year-old precedent and return regulation to the states.

Sure, it’s far-fetched, fanciful even. The confluence of events that would have to occur to achieve this outcome is, to say the least, formidable: Three pro-choice justices retire or die and President Bush and his successor – whoever that might be – nominate, and the Senate confirms, judges who, presented with an on-point case, vote to overturn what even Bush-Appeals Court nominee Miguel Estrada called “settled law.” A longer shot than Giacomo.
…
Some politicians, mostly Democrats and predominantly Catholic, are searching, their political antennas carefully tuned, for a third way. One of them is 42-year-old Thomas R. Suozzi, the county executive of Long Island’s Nassau County.
…
As a Democrat I do not often find it easy to talk with other Democrats about our need to affirm our commitment to the respect for life and how we need to emphasize our party’s firm belief in the worth of every human being," said Suozzi. “As a Catholic I do not often find it easy to talk with other Catholics about my feeling that abortion should and will remain safe and legal and that we should instead focus our efforts on creating a better world where there are fewer unplanned pregnancies, and where women who face unplanned pregnancies receive greater support and where men take more responsibility for their actions.”

Of course he doesn’t mean the abortion should be safe for the babby.

I agree. I don’t credit Bush or the Repubs because the reduction in abortions can’t be affected by who is in office, and especially this administration because Bush hasn’t passed any legislation that would stop abortions.

There are other factors that affected the drop in abortions.

This is certainly true, abortions were also in decline through the Clinton years. The nice thing about this, is that there were a certain group of anti-Bush people who spread the word that abortions were increasing during the Bush presidency. This at least sets that record straight.

And, even if it were true about Bush, he’d still not be to blame! Abortion is a social problem that isn’t immediately affected by who is currently in office.

Don’t discount the power of the bully pulpit to help shape public opinion.

Yeah, just like the success Bush has been having trying to shape public opinion about his Social Security plans.

And, regardless, Bush hasn’t been on any pulpit this term about abortion.

Keep on underestimating. Keep on snickering. Go on, get comfortable. Bush, amazingly, will end up winning. I don’t say this as a sycophant, but as someone who has underestimated him too.

Ah, I admire your optimism.

But I still do not believe that he’ll eliminate abortion in the United States before he leaves office.

I don’t believe he’ll eliminate poverty, unemployment, terrorism, all threats to national security, murder, pedophilia, illiteracy and/or vulgar language either but that’s not the standard by which I judge his performance.

He as spoken multiple times about the culture of life. While he has not been as outspoken as I would like he has been more vociferous than any other potential candidate in the past election cycle.

Sure. If you lower the bar enough, any politician can be okay.
