I turned on the tv after I got home from classes today, and ended up catching the Tyra Banks show. Normally, I can’t stand this sort of program, but today’s topic was like a car wreck - I couldn’t tear myself away from it.

Today, she was interviewing teens who had engaged in a wide variety of sexual behaviors ON SCHOOL GROUNDS

I was absolutely appalled. They interviewed a 14-year-old girl who had slept with 6 different guys (for a total of 20 encounters) and recently contracted a STD. They spoke to a homosexual female who had engaged in sexual behaviors on at least 5 different occasions WHILE IN SCHOOL.

I cannot believe this is happening! I graduated from public high school in 2005 - but it isn’t just public schools that are having this problem. They spoke with a girl who attends a Catholic high school, and has heard of people having sex in the Chapel. I cannot imagine what makes these kids think it’s appropriate or acceptable to be engaging in these behaviors in the first place - but in school? In a stairwell? Or a classroom, while the teacher is showing a movie?

What is the world coming to?

My husband is a cop he is more than happy to have his kids home-schooled. There are countless cameras all over our schools. The cameras can be brought up in all the cop cars through the internet. He has told me awful things that have gone on in the schools and some of the encounters were between kindergarten kids. It really is sick!

Like have people suddenly changed or has the world always been like this, and we just didn’t know it, growing up? I graduated high school in 1987–and while there were wild parties…and drugs…etc…I don’t think kids were having sex in school.😊 Well–now the teachers are propositioning the kids, too…that’s just insanity at its best.

May God protect our youth…and bring them to their moral senses…soon.

Much of which is almost as old as time itself - Peter Abelard and his pupil Heloise had their famous and tragic affair back in the 11th century 🤷

Kinda makes me glad I went to an all-girls school - which surely didn’t eliminate entirely the temptations for and occurrence of such things, but certainly greatly lessened them from what a co-ed school would’ve provided.

Things are changing fast. Spiraling out of control. There have always been some kids who have been into the “bad” things. But the balance is shifting from some kids to most kids. Society supports immorality, and even many parents support immorality. Makes me feel pretty hopeless sometimes as the mom of a two year old…scary to think what kind of world she will be growing up in:(

Bear in mind that talk shows seek out the most extreme cases and individuals they can find. It does not mean that most kids are engaging in this sort of behavior.

I know…it’s like do you get angry, or crawl under the covers and just cry? It’s so sad to see our youth behaving like this. I really think it boils down to faith–not going to church, etc…

Religion is kicked out of schools, courtrooms, etc…abortion is legal. It’s like evil is shown to be a good thing, while morality is seen to be a bad thing. It’s crazy!

I pray pray pray that my dd and my ds stay chaste…and follow Christ’s teachings in this regard. :gopray2:

This isn’t just happening in schools – this is happening everywhere.

A teen in my parish got in trouble because someone caught her having sex in the church bathroom during CCD (PSR) class!

I hate to hear this…

It’s almost like we’re changing into Sodom and Gomorrah.

😦

Lord Jesus, come back soon!!!

There has always been sin and evil in the world, as Scripture tells us - there is nothing new under the sun.

What is new is the constant 24/7 wall to wall news media that is everywhere we look.

Way back in the stone age of the 80’s, when I was a kid, these things happened. They were simply not broadcast around the world. News and gossip was limited to what made it into the paper or on the 6 and 10 30 minute news for local, half hour for world/national TV news.

People took care then to protect the dignity an privacy of someone (and the families) caught in the act. There would be a few whispers, and then it just went away.

The public has an appetiet for this stuff, eat it up with a spoon, so, it seems more prevalant.

When I was in junior high in the mid/late 80s, there were stories about people having sex in the locker rooms. I also overheard a girl in class behind me telling a friend what it felt like to do cocaine at a party.

Sadly, none of this stuff is new. The same badly parented, suffering underclass of children that have self-destructed all throughout our history are still doing that. We just know more about it now.

These things are part of the reason I have been so careful, even in some poeple’s opinions too careful, about the schools where I will send my children. Not only do I not think these things could happen where my kids are, but my kids would get expelled if they were involved in such antics.

There are schools where the adults are vigilant and watchful… and there are schools where they are NOT.

And, just as an aside… I have way too few minutes granted to me in my life to waste any of them watching that trash heap of a show Tyra Banks puts on. I used to like her when she was a model… I don’t know why she has done this to herself! I do like seeing clips of the worst stuff on The Soup on E! on the weekends, though. I love that show. You get to laugh at the worst stuff on TV without having to watch the shows! 😃

I resent the ‘badly parented’ kids line. I was the only one in my group in high school that didn’t do acid (68-71) or any other drugs. Most of my friends had SAHM and were in church every Sunday. We were all parented alike – I just happened to fear my dad more.

You can resent it all you like. What things look like from the outside means nothing. My DH’s best friend came from a strong Catholic family of nine children. Had a SAHM. He went to Mass every week and his mom went every day. He has nothing to do with the Church anymore and a few of his siblings are alcoholics. Why? Because the family that looked so intact and Catholic from the outside was really a sham marriage with no love, and parents who strove to look Catholic and good to the outside world while being total hypocrites and sniping at people behind their backs, even betraying others to advance themselves.

What you saw of your friends’ families may have had nothing to do with the truth of how they lived. If you ever watch the A&E show Intervention, it quickly becomes obvious how many addicts are that way because their parents completely screwed them over.

I never said all addicts or drug abusers or whatever are caused by parents. But let’s be honest… most of it goes back to that in some way.

BTW, you kind of vitiate your own argument with your last comment. The difference was that your dad was a stronger disciplinarian. That would be a difference in parenting, would it not? People who don’t fear their dads are that way because Dad didn’t instill that healthy fear in the first place!

 What’s a SAHM?
In any case, kids do stupid things like drugs and sex, regardless of the home they live in.You can have a two parent household.
The parents have say four kids. Three are sober, don’t smoke or drink, etc.,and the fourth one is one wild party animal and always in trouble, yet all 4 were raised the same.
And there are kids who may grow up in a single parent household
due to divorce, but they stay on the straight and narrow.
It’s a combo of the actions of the parents ,the child’s personality, other influences, etc.

Our parents were strict with us.But we aren’t alchoholics because a drink was for special festive occasions. For New Year’s as kids, momma would give us "baby"wine, which was Seven Up or gingerale with just a little wine in it.My dad’s family was German, and great grandpa made his own wine, grandpa made home brew and Great Aunt Helen made wine too.
Sometimes daddy would by liquor one in awhile and mix up some drinks for him and momma, but they never got falling down drunk or anything.
None of us girls,my sister and I were ever sexfiends. Me,I wanted to be a nun. Plus, momma explained to us about sex, and we never got pregnant as teenagers either. Come to think of it, neither did any of my brother’s girlfriends. So i assume our dad must have told him some stuff just for guys.
Our parents were’nt kids when they married either, my dad was 37 when i was born, and momma was 31.both had dated other people in the past, and had an idea of what they wanted in a husband and wife. Sure there were rocky times, and they did fight over money, but they stuck together and when momma died from a stroke in 1982, my dad never remarried, and was a widower till the day he died in 1996.
We we influenced by our parents, not celebrities and sports figures. My parents came from a different culture and generation.
A generation where everyone was in the same boat and people helped each other out and tried to help the little guy.

**I agree that none of this stuff is “new”. What IS new is society’s acceptance and encouragement of immoral and destructive behavior. At least back when i was in high school, not THAT long ago, and for sure when my parents were in high school, the kids who did the “bad” stuff at least knew it was wrong and so did everyone else. A girl who slept around was still labeled a slut, a boy who stole cars was a delinquent, a kid who did drugs was one who all of the other parents wanted to keep their kids away from…etc etc etc.

NOW you have kids performing oral sex in school (and everywhere else) because “it isn’t sex”, experimenting with drugs because it’s the “in” thing to do, drinking to absolute excess each and every weekend because that IS the social scene, having abortions because it’s an “easy” form of birth control…etc etc etc.

All of the stigma has been removed from damaging and destructive behaviors. Kids don’t know why it’s wrong and often either do their parents. And increasingly the parents are ENCOURAGING the behaviors. Society is sorely misguided and it is going to take a miracle to turn things around. Luckily I believe in miracles;)**

Well let’s see, I had an alcoholic mom & a dad who said he’d hang himself if I got pregnant out of wedlock. Don’t think that’s called great parenting. He also said that the only reason I wanted to go to university was to sleep around and have an abortion if I got pregnant. No, I don’t think it was healthy fear , it was FEAR, plain and simple. I was not free to make mistakes.

I went to catholic schools my whole life and stuff like this happened in my schools. Maybe not to this extent, (at least not that I’m aware of), but definitely things I would not want my children involved in. Inappropriate things even occurred starting in 5th and 6th grade in a small catholic elementary school! This is partly why I homeschool now.

ICAM-I truly feel that the media ie MTVs Spring Break (back in the 80’s), & today’s Girls Gone Wild, etc have a lot to do with what’s going on today. And listen I am far from being prudish.

MY husband was telling me about a guy he works with (mid 20’s) goes to orgies almost every week. Nice convo, I know, but he told me to fill me in on how it is today. Now DH is 47 & said that back in his days guys were always looking for it, but it was always the girls that would turn them down. Not today, girls are the big initiators when it comes one night stands, etc.**

I do know that around here that the kids in school would wear those braided bracelets. Certain colors represented what that person was willing to do sexually. So you’d walk down the halls, see what color bracelets someone was wearing & try to hook up with them later. This is JHS folks.

I know sin isn’t new, but do you think that the degree of this kind of stuff is greater?

It seems like kids are sexualized very young these days. They seem to have lost their innocence
