I turned on the tv after I got home from classes today, and ended up catching the Tyra Banks show. Normally, I can’t stand this sort of program, but today’s topic was like a car wreck - I couldn’t tear myself away from it.
Today, she was interviewing teens who had engaged in a wide variety of sexual behaviors ON SCHOOL GROUNDS
I was absolutely appalled. They interviewed a 14-year-old girl who had slept with 6 different guys (for a total of 20 encounters) and recently contracted a STD. They spoke to a homosexual female who had engaged in sexual behaviors on at least 5 different occasions WHILE IN SCHOOL.
I cannot believe this is happening! I graduated from public high school in 2005 - but it isn’t just public schools that are having this problem. They spoke with a girl who attends a Catholic high school, and has heard of people having sex in the Chapel. I cannot imagine what makes these kids think it’s appropriate or acceptable to be engaging in these behaviors in the first place - but in school? In a stairwell? Or a classroom, while the teacher is showing a movie?
What is the world coming to?
