The truth would be an interesting addition to this thread.

I’ll be waiting, I suppose.

And to answer the most recent question, Muhammad told his companions that the best of them were the best to their wives, and he was the best to his wives. And from Aisha we know he never hit a woman or a servant.

If a man finds need to hit his wife for discipline, then he is allowed to do so only in the matter prescribed–such that it does not leave any kind of mark.

Nobody who is honest with himself could call that beating.

What if I will reverse the prescription for the sake of islamic equal honor theory?

Do you think you are going to uncover something that his followers didn’t notice?
I do hope Muslims honestly don’t notice what’s wrong with Islam, so yes. But I won’t discover anything not known to scholars, if that’s what you mean.

No offense, but what planet are you on? Since when should a husband EVER EVER EVER have to DISCIPLINE his wife let alone by hitting her?!? She is NOT a child to be punished. Or is this something about Islamic marriages I don’t understand? (Or perhaps I have taken this ‘out of context’. )

Dear sister Amy,we will have to understand that husbands should not be the guardians of their wives,if you really believe in equal honor. If any one slap his wife and left no mark on her cheek then do you not think that it is a great dishonor to his wife?If a husband slap his wife then I think a woman of personality should leave such type of husband instantly.

Not just scholars, but the people who lived with Muhammad, and chose to follow him. But sure, Muslims today.

But more to the point, you’ve admitted you’re not going to uncover something shocking to the Muslim world. They know Muhammad far better than you. And they love him. 🤷

It’s okay for you to get upset.

And you’re right, a woman is not a child to be punished. This isn’t talking about punishment. It is talking about a woman who persists in committing a sin in Islam, despite her husband’s efforts to correct her. Striking her (which some scholars don’t think means hitting at all, but means having intercourse actually) is the husband’s last resort before divorce.

This passage is not an excuse for a man to hit his wife as punishment or because he’s not happy with her.

Equal honor? I still don’t know what you’re talking about.

Do you think it is acceptable for a man to berate his wife, insult her verbally, mock her in public, and so on?

Incidentally, a husband is not allowed to do that, or to humiliate his wife in Islam, but is supposed to defend her honor.

You just stated above that a man can hit his wife for discipline…

Discipline???  The wife is NOT a child… you discipline children and give them consequences, NOT adult married women…

Oh man, my head is spinning… at the above reply.

Thank God I wasn’t raised a muslim… 😃

May God Help Us…

Sorry for the "BIG font reply above… - I wasn’t aware how BIG it was… 🤷

Does this mean intercourse as in having a discussion or intercourse as in sexual intercourse? The usual interpretation would be sexual intercourse, but I don’t see how that fits with this discussion. A woman is committing a sin in Islam so the husband’s last resort is to have sex with her before he divorce’s her? Or, I get it - :newidea: he is so ‘skillful’ in the bedroom that the wife will easily see her mistake and reform! :rotfl: (Sorry, I couldn’t resist! LOL 😃 ) I just don’t understand your response - or maybe I don’t understand the passage. I don’t see any situation where it would be OK for a man to hit his wife to “correct” her whether he leaves a mark or not. Sorry, but I have absolutely NO tolerance for domestic violence on either side.

When did I say that it is acceptable?:confused:I just wanted to say that your so called hit for discipline without mark or sign is also not acceptable because it is also beating. So if islam gave men and women equal honor then it would not allow men to hit his wife even softly.Husband is not the Lord for a woman.BTW,answer one of my question,do you not believe like other muslims that your religion islam gave women a great honor?

What is “islamic equal honor theory?” I never heard of it.
You never heard of it?Actually Islam claims that Islam assured the real honor of woman and she is equal honored with her husband.BTW,at least once you claimed it(sorry if my memory betrayed me,but perhaps it is you who was arguing about it), when I said “there are no honor for woman in Islam”.

Don’t let your head spin, Jay. Sister Amy and Muslim Woman are so invested in their vision of Islam that they can’t see their own rationalizations.

You and I can see that striking a woman is hitting is beating is domestic abuse. They can’t. If it doesn’t leave a bruise, it’s not beating, even though there are plenty of ways to physically hurt someone without leaving a bruise.

And Amy further rationalizes that striking may mean having sex. What, then, is having sex for discipline? If having sex is a punishment, doesn’t that make it rape?

God bless us all,

Ruthie

I would rather stay single and die single than have ANY mad man **discipline **me for whatever reason his religion permits him to do so.

I was afraid that was what she meant, 😦 but I hope she will clarify. I’m not sure, though because she never retracted her statements condoning murder (of apostates) in another thread so I’m not sure how to take it. 😦 🤷

.
What kind of discipline, you are talking about? Men’s perception of discipline to fill up their ego?

Mystical Monk Coffee drinking users,

Don’t worry about Muslims accusing you of abusing Mohammed. It is the consistant behavior of cult followers. Remember the cult of personality around Obama, and how if you disagreed with him or showed he was wrong about something you were accused of racism? It’s a very similar thing with Mohammed.

We can love and respect a man and also correct him. In Muhammad’s case, we need to correct his assertion that he is a prophet of God, and his wicked life is a strong point against him. It is not hypocritical to point out Muhammad’s sins and not Jesus’ sins, because Jesus was sinless.
sister amy is right - we can’t correct someone who is dead. But, we don’t have to accept his self-claim to prophethood and we can point out why he is not a prophet and why allah is not the God of Israel.

Whether the muslims listen or not (they don’t do a very good job of listening either) we should make sure to rebuttal their posts.

They base their religion/koran on our Bible being corrupted and once again - I ask them to prove it and they cannot use the koran and hadiths since those are based on someone who couldn’t read or write and was not a Jew or a Christian.
