quran didn’t mentioned lot in quran to tell us he was prophet then full stop .
I know muslims take most hazrats as prophets but prophet doesn’t automatically translate into “holy man”. When asked what was Lot’s, Jonah’s,(Yunus) Job’s (Eyup) prophecy, there is a blanket statement that they taught Allah’s religion, Allah’s oneness etc,

So if I may ask once again, if Lot was a “prophet” in islamic context, what were his prophecies? Messenger and prophet are different terms.

Accourding to wikipedia, Lot (Lut) was a Nabi=prophet & Rasul=messenger.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prophets_of_Islam

I am looking forward to elwills answer regarding your inquiry pertaining to “what were his prophecies”?

I know Bushmaster personally. He’s on the level.
so what was the religion of the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites ? did they worshiped God in the heavin ?
As far as I know they were all pagans.

I hope I’m reading your statement right. This is what I understand of what you wrote above.

The koran **does not **say that Lot (Lut) is a prophet, is that correct?

And BTW ~ the topic of discussion based on the thread header is about islam and prophets.

If you do not wish to engage in discussion well then, it’s your prerogative.
no , i didn’t mean that . it was mentioned in quran that he is prophet
“Will you not fear God and obey Him? Verily! I am a trustworthy Messenger to you. So fear God and obey me. No reward do I ask of you for it (my Message) my reward is only from the Lord of all that exists.” (Quran 26:161-164)

i just wanna to tell you that even if jews hold the view about lot to be just abraham’s nephew , dosn’t mean that he wasn’t prophet . from the stroy of lut we know in the quran that had a massage from God to them
He called the people to give up their wicked ways and obey the One God, worshipping Him alone. However, the townspeople continued to mock and belittle Lot, and even taunted him by challenging him to bring God’s torment upon them.

“Bring God’s torment upon us if you are one of the truthful.” (Quran 29:29)

When Our command came, We turned their cities upside down and rained down on them stones of hard baked clay, piled on top of one another in layers, each one earmarked by your Lord. And they are never far from the wrongdoers. (Qur’an, 11:82-83)

i just confused , i don’t know the purposes of this discussion about lot being prophet or not , that’s all

is it necessery for the prophet to tell prophecies ?
and if he said prophecies , should quran or the bible mention it ?

may be he said prophecies , but he had no followers to write such details of his teaching

from my point of view , the prophet is the man who have a mission from God to deliver his massage and to warn his people from punishment of God

Dear Elwill, According to your definition, and its true, that a Prophet is a God’ messenger.

On another forum I had asked a question saying ’ did God send at anytime two prophets at the same time to one people, ie Jews and one muslim had answered to me as Moses and Aaron. I did not accept his answer, as its totally incorrect. Moses was the Prophet, not Aaron, Now same way you are saying that Abraham and Lot were both Prophets, Also some muslims say that Jesus and John the Baptist were both Prophets, and that too for the same people and at the same time? Its really amazing. I dont see any second prophet with Mohammed?

Lot is called “Rasool” , “Messenger” …I don’t know a verse that mentions him as a prophet (Nabi).

And no…Adam was not called a messenger nor a prophet in the Quran.

he also sent 3 prophets to the same people on the same time

chapter 36
13-And set out to them an example of the people of the town, when the messengers came to it.
14-When We sent to them two, they rejected both of them, then We strengthened (them) with a third, so they said: Surely we are messengers to you.
15- They said: You are naught but mortals like ourselves, nor has the Beneficent Allah revealed anything; you only lie.
16-They said: Our Lord knows that we are most surely messengers to you.
17-And nothing devolves on us but a clear deliverance (of the message).
18-They said: Surely we augur evil from you; if you do not desist, we will certainly stone you, and there shall certainly afflict you a painful chastisement from us.
19-They said: Your evil fortune is with you; what! if you are reminded! Nay, you are an extravagant people.

we have no problems to believe that God sent 2 or 3 prophets in the same time

feel wellcome if you have any further questions about islamic beliefs 🙂

Judaism Biblical Lot, is he a prophet = No

Christianity Biblical Lot, is he a prophet = No

Islam, koran Lot, is he a prophet = Yes

2 religions & Biblical books can’t be wrong about Lot for 3000 years and all of the sudden, the author of the koran makes Lot a prophet!

Full stop!

it’s okey jakazaki
so he wasn’t prophet , then? what is your point ? what do you want to proof ?
what is the purpose of this long argument if i supposed that he wasn’t prophet ?

I don’t believe we were arguing elwill.

I’m done, thanks!

I don’t think Pam’s arguing with you. I think she’s just pointing out another contradiction between Islam and the religions that came before it. 😉

Intellectually speaking, would NOT a prophet, by definition, prophesy and tell accurate events of the future to warn his people? This is what we see from the Scriptures.

I would like to point out that Ch. 36 Quran text is vague. So they sent 3 messengers, does that really confirm an actual event, can one really corroborate that with another source, or is it a “yes we can” type of vague claim?

I agree that failing definitions of Islam shows us that we have conflicting theologies.

thank you jay
althought i allready know that there are contradictions between quran and bible , but i cant see conttradictions in this issue actually
that how i see the situation
bible said that lot is only rightious man in sodom and that he was abraham’s nephew and that God sent the angles to him to save him

quran said , that lot was a prophet from allah to sodom and that he lived in the same time of abraham (pbuh) and that God sent the angles to him to save him

when i apply the defination of “contradiction” to those two statement , i can’t see any contraditions at all
as for it’s possible that lot was rightious man and in the same time nephew of abraham (according to bible) and in the same time he is prophet (according to quran)

Contradiction is inconsistency or discrepancy… Do you see any?
