Exactly. It’s contradictory. They claim He’s perfect, but then claim he allowed the Church to apostatize for 1500 years. Crazy!
quite.:yup:

Not once have my Protestant friends expressed joy over the fact that I now have faith in the same Messiah they believe in too.
It’s a sad fact that a some are very happy that you will, in their view, burn in hell.

They seem to be the same types who enjoy watching another person struggle or fail.

And they tend to think of Jerry Springer as quality television.

I know a few Protestants like that. I keep asking myself how in the world can they be Christians? (Of course I’m sure there are Catholics like that too. I just haven’t met any.)

sadly, yes, there are. we will all come across such people; and it’s our duty to be a witness of what it really means to follow Christ!

They maintain that the real church died out to almost nothing, with only a few underground believers in hiding. Then, the Protestant Reformation allowed these underground believers to “come out”, and the real church was restored.
I’ve heard this before and have always wondered how the supporters of such a belief reconcile said belief with Matthew 5:14-16:

14"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden;
15nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
16"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

How can you “hide” but still be the “light of the world”?

If you ever worry about the salvation of those outside of the Church, I have found this quote to be quite comforting to myself when I being to worry about my non-Catholic friends:

"Normally, “it will be in the sincere practice of what is good in their own religious traditions and by following the dictates of their own conscience that the members of other religions respond positively to God’s invitation and receive salvation in Jesus Christ, even while they do not recognize or acknowledge him as their Saviour." (cf. Ad gentes, nn. 3, 9, 11)” (Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue – Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples,

Yes, that’s the only way we’ll reach them. That and prayer.

I agree, I wonder the same things. It makes no sense. How can literate, thinking adults believe things like that? I really, truly don’t understand how they can maintain such illogical beliefs. Their beliefs don’t stand up to even light scrutiny.
