This is my opinion.
For example, for a bit of pocket change, I work once or twice a week at the grocers. We have Muslim families who come in - some wear a hijab, and some just a pretty scarf. They say God Bless you, thank you, and they often offer the pray for us when one of the employees is having a particularly bad time.
When the butcher has to go an extra mile to get halal meat for them, they pay extra and are more than happy. When they’re fasting, they’re never down-and-out, never sad, and always appear to smile and are extremely kind. The religion itself is filled with heresy and false teaching, but at least we can learn this from them. Filial love, respect, and simple kindness and humility.
A chap I know, his family is originally from Turkmenistan. They’re a family of progressive Muslims, but he had to move out at 16 years of age to live with his sister. Their family always supported them as they were quite successful, but wanted their children to learn independence on their own as efficiently as possible. They still ate together for family meals, went to mosque, etc… all as a family. But, private affairs remained just that - private affairs. They placed an emphasis on individual freedom, and when my friend told them that he was Christian they did not make a fuss. They still invite him to mosque, which he goes to occasionally to see old friends and family.
On the other hand, I know a family who disowned their son because he married a white girl, a Christian, even when she agreed to raise their child as a Muslim. He left his family and is raising their child at a non-denominational mega church type thing.
