well interesting that this is brought up by a " regular member " whos screen name is " atheistgirl " .

one has to really wonder why the question was really asked indeed, of the OP is looking for a response in the form of, No the Church doesn’t consider it a sin, or have a problem with it since it is in the confines of marrage, then one is looking in the wrong place for a such a response. And then to bring up well where does the Church say it is a problem or a sin… these types of questions are only leading one to an arguement that is not intended for any real purpose. The op will not find a suitable answer. You are on a Catholic Forum , do you really expect to get a response of, eh yeah the church really doesnt discuss let alone hit on points as you have brought up plus you are married an it is between you an your husband, so dont worry about it have a nice day.
Adult = Porn.

This is a Catholic forum. Why tell us? It may be thought of as “a bit of fun” for you, but is gravely sinful.

Peace,
Ed

I mean, really, your idea of expressing intimacy with your husband must encompass pornography? that is such an impoverished idea of intimacy.
Not at all.

I’ve been incredibly intimate in writing my husband when he’s been abroad, and not even once alluded to any physical aspect of missing him.

Then again, I have been very graphic is detailing exactly when he can expect when he gets home 😃

We communicate intimately on every level and regarding every aspect of our lives together.

So no, it mustn’t necessarily encompass pornography, but it can and does.

And that’s the bit I’m not clear about with regards to the Church.

Because while the term pornographic is being tossed about, I’m actually talking about intimacy with my husband, and shared fantasy, and mental, emotional and physical enjoyment even when we’re apart, and I can not see how the Church could class that as pornographic and sinful.

Yes. And I don’t like these kinds of explicit threads. I wish they were disallowed.
People like this make me not even want to come to CAF. Just way too sensitive. I dont see how it is a sin. If she were to do it as foreplay it wouldnt be. I see no difference.🤷

It sounds more like you just want to argue rather than ask advice.
I don’t know why you’re the one wanting to argue with me. 🤷

I told you it can’t happen.

I’m not going to spell out details, but I know what I’m talking about!

Trying to discuss whether the media could or could not be discovered is not the subject of this thread, and is therefor derailing it.

So, a wife - cough - dancing for her husband, would be making pornography in the eyes of the Church

I seriously don’t get this

Would writing him an intimate letter, reminding him of a place we’ve been to, and what happened, and in the process of telling him how much I’m missing him (he’s away on business right now) the letter morphs into a shared fantasy, be also viewed as pornography by the Church.

Does the Church really just expect me to write:

Dearest Husband,
Enjoy your trip.
Get those contracts signed and don’t forget the chocolates!
xxx

To my Husband!!! 🤷

(Edited) Porn is sinful within marriage or otherwise - according to ALL Catholic teachings.

You may not think this is harmful to your marriage - NOW. I will tell you from many friends that believed as you do…eventually it will be a huge source of pain.

If “cough” = naked dancing or pole, stripper or otherwise removal of clothing while dancing, then yes.
Ok, so, my husband sees me naked every day and every night. My husband sees me strip every night. My husband sees me dance a lot of nights.

But if I make a recording of me dancing and/or stripping for him, I’m sinning.

if a majority of people here tell you that everything is fine , go on doing what you are doing, will that make you happy and satisfy you so that the debate and question is put to an end ??

Then ask why do you even care to begin with if you keep bringing up rebuttles to what people are telling you.

You are asking a question in a Catholic forum and you are a stated non believer. Why would you want feedback from anyone in this venue?
What an incredible view to hold. Truly incredible.

On that basis, why would any non Catholic ask any Catholic anything, or be interested in their views

Why would any Catholic bother to share their views and faith with any non Catholic

Congratulations - you’ve just knocked evangelizing back 2000 years.

I’m actually interested in the views of many of the very nice Catholics and other Christians I’ve met here.

Please don’t feel obliged to contribute though, since I’m a non believer

Perhaps this is why it could be considered porn, even though within the intimacy of a faithful marriage:

In a sense the video objectifies you, precisely because YOU are not there, just an image an “avatar” of you. So you are not giving your husband you, but a thing, a representative of you.

If/when you do exactly the same dance with your husband present the acts are intimate because you are present (embodied) to him.

When the sexual imagery and the human body are separated then the visual imagery might be porn.

All these threads on porn have prompted me to ask:

Is recording an ‘adult’ dvd for your husband a sin in the eyes of the Catholic Church?

Sarah x 🙂
Many things are being brought into the discussion which confuse the issue. I only get as graphic as necessary. By “adult” I am assuming that you are preforming some type of sex act. That would be sinful, regardless of whether or not it is for your husband.

By doing nude pole dancing or something similar, it may or may not be sinful. If the video is being used as stimulation as part of the marital act, and never for any other reason, I don’t see where the sin is. It would be arguing against allowing the spouses to stimulate/arouse each other in the context of the marital act.

The second paragraph is simply my opinion, of course. The Church, to the best of my knowledge, has not commented on the matter. Apologists have vary opinions on matters such as this.

(Edited)

Maybe her husband is Catholic. Maybe she’s exploring Catholicism and is interested in what the Church teaches on something that appears to be important to her. Does it really serve her or us to question her motives merely for asking a question on a board that is designed for people to ask questions?

Strictly speaking, pornography is the taking of sexual intimacy out of the context of marriage and showing it to a third party. Since the adult content the OP is proposing is of herself and intended only for her husband, I would not call it pornography. But I also don’t think it’s morally right. The purpose of such a video, and certainly its result, would be to incite lust. Says the catechism: “Lust is disordered desire for or inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure. Sexual pleasure is morally disordered when sought for itself, isolated from its procreative and unitive purposes.” The desire a wife may wish to inculcate in her husband while on a business trip or otherwise unavailable is certainly isolated from its procreative and unitive purposes. I also see it as unfair to the husband. Is it kind (or smart?) to arouse one’s husband when he is away from his wife?

Because while the term pornographic is being tossed about, I’m actually talking about intimacy with my husband, and shared fantasy, and mental, emotional and physical enjoyment even when we’re apart, and I can not see how the Church could class that as pornographic and sinful.
As I said, the secular world has attempted to make people believe these things are normal and not disordered.

I’m not one to tell people what to do. But if you think about it it makes you wonder what wives did before the invention of video tapes and DVDs?

Not that I’m saying people shouldn’t use modern technology for its convenience or romance.

It just makes you wonder a bit. Like… I noticed from some of the extant letters of U.S. Civil War soldiers that many of them seem to have a far more poetic prose and ability to express themselves in the written word than most of us Americans today.
I’m still trying to get past this idea that asking this sort of question, putting ‘adult’ in quotes - meets someone’s definition of “explicit.”
It’s all relative. I’m sure there is probably one person on earth that could get offended by someone writing, “My wife looks nice.”

That said… Catholicism is in the business of producing saints. Like Harvard Law School producing lawyers. In both cases the bar is raised to a level the average person does not enjoy. And part of attaining sainthood is practicing modesty.

Also, as a sidebar to this: sex, food, and money has to be humanities greatest weaknesses. Especially sex and money. You can have enough of those two and still want more and more and more.

I think about 99% of conversations and story lines revolve around sex. Probably money too, that’s why the police heroes of TV’s Miami Vice drove cool cars and lived cool. Money is sexy. Not abject poverty.

Ananda in dialectic conversation with the Buddha tells the Buddha sexual lust is impure and makes one crude and irrational. Basically, sex sucks. And elsewhere the Buddha says it ain’t all about good looking hair. “What’s really up” (to use a current urban, Hip Hop expression) is the emaciated bum living in the forest ugly as all get up the Buddha says.

What’s the point? I don’t know. But Ananda doesn’t really dig sex and neither does the Buddha (neither chubby one or skinny one I guess).

I’m assuming that you are making the video for your husband to view at times when you are not available. In this case, yes the video is sinful, because you are inspiring your husband to lust and probably to masturbate. (Which is a grave misuse of the sexual facilities.) If the video is used as foreplay. (For example, you send it to him in order to encourage him to come to bed or something like that and it ends in the marital act.) then it would not neccessarily be sinful. (Though probably still not a wise idea since some one else could get their hands on it.)

In a sense the video objectifies you, precisely because YOU are not there, just an image an “avatar” of you. So you are not giving your husband you, but a thing, a representative of you.
But I want to give him this ‘avatar’ of me. I know how much he enjoys certain things, and I know how much he loves to see me dance, so I want to give him that because I know what it means to him.

I want him to have that of me when he’s away. I can’t see how this objectifies me in any way. It’s simply another way to share myself with my husband, when he can’t be with me.

Of course, there’s all the usual stuff - the normal expressions that happen between a man and wife when they’re apart.

And it’s not always too serious either 😃

There’s a recording of me dressed up doing Bob Dylan’s Subterranean Homesick Blues with all the cards but voiced over to relate to something else and the cards all relating to that and he laughed for days and still talks about it even though it was years ago now.

I do this kinda thing. :o

It’s not all adult stuff, and it’s not always adult stuff.

But it occasionally is.

And I’m struggling to see how this could be classed as pornography.

Pornography is intended to cause the watcher to become aroused. If that is what is going on, then it is pornography. If he was watching some skank doing the same thing you are doing in the video, would you consider it porn then? Well, then it is still porn if it is you doing it. Another thing to consider is that if your husband has problems with porn, such a video could cause him to fall into that and start looking at other women in porn videos.

I can’t believe I’m going to respond to this mindless tripe but ,oh well, it’s saturday night and I’m bored,so here we go. Ah, nah.
