Would people believe that evidence if God did?

Even when Our Lord walked the earth, there was a man born blind, a man who had spent a great deal of time on the doorstep fo the Temple, and his cure was not believed. Lazarus was brought back from the dead; it just made some people more jealous and more intent on getting Our Lord out of the way.

I’d say the last thing we need is “evidence.” We don’t believe evidence when we see it! Such evidence might only sit in judgment of us. It is better to believe without it.

He said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.”
Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!"
Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me?r Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.”
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book.
But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name.
John 20:27-29

In our times, we are given signs sometimes to attest to the efficacy of the intercession of saint or other. Besides, that, we seem to be expected to read the Gospels and believe the witness they contain, I think.

For instance, prior to the canonization of Pope St. John Paul II, a nun was cured of her Parkinson’s disease and another woman was cured of a brain aneurism that her physicans thought would kill her within the month. These aren’t things that would take place on camera, just by their nature.

Acts of God are not circus acts, after all.

What about silence? Just going before the Blessed Sacrament on a regular basis, like for one hour once a week, and being silent. You can say your prayers, but set aside five or ten minutes of just being before God and nothing else. Not thinking, not daydreaming, and not expecting anything. Just silence before God. Over time, it does help quite a lot.
 
I have asked too many times lol I swear I’m continuing to try I just keep having fears and objections.

In the fourth place, in reading holy books we receive many lights and divine calls. St. Jerome says that when we pray we speak to God; but when we read, God speaks to us. St. Ambrose says the same: “We address him when we pray; we hear him when we read.” In prayer, God hears our petitions, but in reading we listen to his voice.

I do think that when it clicks for you, it will be because of the words in a book with a message sent directly from God. God bless.

I tried but they kind of blew me off after a short meeting and led the discussion into other areas than belief. I’ll try to stop rationalizing it and trying to find God logically. Even though the church claims you can arrive at God through human reason maybe I just need to continue trying.

Plus, do you really think seeing miracles on canera would convince anyone, what with our ability to photoshop and use CGI these days? Even if one was caught on camera, somebody would scream “photoshop!” faster than you could breathe.

I have nothing to lose except if we are wrong then I’ve dedicated a significant portion of my life to one belief when I could have lived life differently! If our time on this earth is limited to the same timeframe and there’s isn’t a God I would drastically live my life different than if there is one. Now I would prefer God exists and there is an afterlife and we may get to see our families and loved ones again but if not then it’s all in vain and I should have spent life doing whatever I wanted instead of limiting myself to bring myself closer to God.

So maybe I start with a modified Pascal’s wager and life my life as if there is God even though I may miss out on worldly pleasures cause it won’t matter either way. This is a new perspective for me thank you!
