I am not aware of a single verse of scripture that states Mary was sinless. All men and women sinned in Adam and all were born with sin natures. Paul says “there are none righteous, no not one.”. He didn’t say, “Errrrr…except of course for Mary.”
Irrelevant; the Scriptures are not the sole rule of Faith; and, “the Pillar and Foundation of the Truth” has said that Mary was immaculately conceived.

Besides, you’re derailing the thread. Ag-Not is not asking, what is extra-biblical or para-biblical, but what is anti-biblical (you have to prove it’s directly in contradiction to the holy Scriptures.)

And that’s your rebuttal? You can’t be serious.
I was serious. You’re taking that scripture to mean ALL have sinned and fallen short.

If you want to use that logic, then you must apply it to ALL and that includes Jesus.

The passage you quoted is not meant to say ALL including Jesus…it is referring to our state because of original sin. Mary was saved and preserved from that stain of sin from the moment of her conception. We can read this to say ALL in the sense that all except Jesus and Mary fall short of the Glory of God. Or…we could say that All INCLUDING Mary would fall short of the glory of God, without Jesus, our savior:)

…I love your quote, by the way!
I didn’t know you believed in Eucharistic Adoration. That’s the “Adoration” in “… in the Presence of Jesus (Adoration or in Spirit).”

Sorry, couldn’t let that get by. 😉

Scratch the whole Mary not sinning thing. This is the way I see it, I am just a lay person. Okay, Mary’s parents devoted their whole beings to the God of Abraham, Jacob, Moses; so basically the God of their people and the Old Testament, which I believe is the God that created everything. Okay so they were kind of holy people. They got to a point where they were waiting for God to save them and living their life for him. In this process they conceived a baby girl. She was special, because her parents conceived so free from sin, because they repented and were meek and all the other good stuff. Then Mary grew up being loved by her parents unconditionally because that is what the God of the Jews does. Through this special grace of her parents she was like not effected by sin like normal people, though she was still a person. Basically I can admit that I have done somethings in life that were kind of completely against God, though maybe I was not completely aware, I still did them. Mary never did this because of the grace she recieved from God. Then she was obedient to her parents so she married this Joseph, who was also pretty remarkable. Before their marriage the Holy Spirit came to Mary to concieve the Son of God, Jesus. :extrahappy:

And Saint Paul was speaking in general, of course, so Martin777’s arguement is really kind of a stretch. 🤷

St. Paul was probably referencing the Psalms, psalm 14. In which, after the famous, "All have sinned and there is none righteous’ passage, it goes on to say, “Will these evildoers not understand? They eat up my people as though they are eating bread.”

Hmmm. If all are evil, then who are these people whom “these evildoers” (the ‘all’ spoken of earlier) are persecuting? Obviously now there are two different groups here. . .evildoers and those whom they are persecuting who are specifically mentioned as being God’s people.

So ‘all’ is not ALL in this psalm, and St. Paul is reminding us that God is still on the side of the righteous even when they are few and it seems as though they are surrounded by evildoers. Very apposite considering the persecution the early Christians faced!

. . .“When we see Him we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is!”. So it will be complete then. . .
I never quite got your stance on this post-death, completion-of-sanctification process we were discussing.

Do you believe in it, Martin, or not?

How do you reconcile this with the many Scripture verses in which God speaks of particular men as righteous–including Abraham, Melchisadek, Enoch, Elijah, etc.?

If ‘none are righteous’ (meaning no person ever, after Adam, according to your interpretation is ‘righteous’ and all are born with “sin nature”), then Scripture contradicts itself in saying the above people, specifically and by name, were righteous in God’s eyes.

So, explain please. . .
I have an explanation myself but I’d like to see if yours is different. . .
Good question. First, we know all Scripture is God’s infallable word, so there are no contradictions. But there are many apparent contradictions at first glance. I think those men were righteous compared to the majority of other men. But compared to Godi–true righteousness–no one is. Not even close. And that is what Paus is saying. It would be like me asking my son if his hands were clean before dinner. They might pass my inspection, but be totally unfit for a ‘holy’ operating room at the hospital. Or I could teach a golf class for six year olds and say, “Johnny is good.”. But then what is he like compared to Tiger? Horrific!

…except for the OSAS nuts!

Just because I have no end of respect for your intelligent posts, skill, knowledge and experience in the field of apologetics, and that I actually think you’re really funny, do NOT make the mistake of thinking you will not experience the wrath of Bruxilda’s moderating club !!! That was very nearly Stike Two !!!

I can understand the word "honor’ because Mary was honored. Do you recant the word “pedestal” in regards to Mary? BTW, do you have a statue of Mary on a pedestal at home?
Underdog,

As I previously stated, I used the word “pedestal” because it referred to the phrase used by someone earlier in this thread. The word pedestal is not synonomous with “worship”. Instead it implies a place of honor.

Why are you so hung up on this word?

Is there a pedestal in your church where you place the bible or some other artifact which makes this word “pedestal” mean worship to you?

BTW do you have a picture or other likeness of your mom, dad, sister, brother or other loved ones in your home or wallet, or desk at work? The representation of something is just that. I don’t believe that the statue grants my wishes or anything.

I profess to you that I **do **have a statue of the Blessed Mother and I also have several crucifixes in my home to remind me of the sacrifice that Jesus made for all of humanity. The Blessed Mother teaches us all how to love and obey our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is a pure reflection of the light of Christ and the model of submission of the will to God.:gopray2::

Peace

**Hi Martin, 👋 **
**Errrrr… Paul wasn’t God, buddy! He made errors in many things he said and did. Yup, he was human, speaking in human terms, to a particular group of people about a particular thing! If He had been asked ‘Paul, what about Jesus’ Mother" probably He would have said “Everyone know she was born without sin, of course. I wasn’t talking about her.” But just like you, I can’t “prove” that neither. What I can prove is that it is absolutely true that mary was born without any sin! How? Easy by ignoring stupid sola scriptura which is said to be as dumb as Sola Gratia or Sola Fide or the other two solas! **
In the Constitution Ineffabilis Deus of 8 December, 1854, Pope Pius IX pronounced and defined that theBlessed Mother Mary “in the first instance of her conception, by a singular privilege and grace granted byGod, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, the Saviour of thehuman race, was preserved exempt from all stain of original sin” Since he spoke with papal infallibility we know that it is 100% true! I am sure the next thing our “separated brethren” were going to try would be papal infallibility. So I made sure to mention it since it is supported in our Sacred Traditions and can be defended from demonic attack!.
We can then wait for them to get to the other two lies that Protestants normally use in a feeble, pitiful attempt to make their corrupt, distorted, counterfeit denominations and beliefs have some resemblance to the true church and its infallibile teaching through the grace of the HS!

If Protestants could show that their bible was written earlier than 500 years ago I think they might win a couple of arguments. Some of the things they argue, were written for our church prophetizing about false prophets and teachers to come and Jesus even mentioned that He would deny them. Somehow the Liars twist this to indicate it is the real church that is wrong rather then the group that were being mentioned, "our separated brethren. Not even one of the 100 different rewritten changed, corrupted, distorted versions that were made in the past 400 years can stand up against God and His real church!.

God Bless

I bet Agnot is fine with the thread.
Even if the RCC had authority to decree things equal with Scripture (an earmark of cults, by the way). They can’t change reality!

Hi, Hisalone,

I realize that the question was not directed to me … but, allow me to offer a response… 😃
Ag_ Would not a better approach for your eternal soul be What does the bible say on this or on that rather than attempting to dispprove a negative.
No. This thread has been started in a particular way. If you want to start your own thread with that as the topic, fine. But, if you ae going to post on this thread then you really need to stay on topic.
One approach is about finding the truth of a thing the other is trying to get a particular belief off the hook so to speak.
Not quite. The basic foundatin of Protestantism is that there is ONLY the Bible… and this is not even a complete Bible. The troubles with this concept are legion - but, the single issue of interst is that there really is no where in Catholic teaching that contradicts the Bible. This means the Bible says, “X” and the Catholic Chruch teaches “Y”.

I realize this is frustrating - but, surely, there are issues that must come to mind. You know like references that say:
1- There is no Purgatory.
2- Mary’s body rotted in the ground.
3- (and, you’re going to love this) This Isn’t My Body, this Isn’t My Blood!

Give it a try… or, make your own thread:eek:

God bless

Well, yes and no. I confess to being a bit disappointed after reading 19 pages and more than 220 posts since getting in from work I have still to be confounded by a piece of evidence that proves the catholic church teaches even one thing that contradicts the Bible. Caan I ask people who submit claims like ‘‘purgatory’’ ‘‘Mary’’ etc to nmot just say the words. Rather present the case that the clearly demonatrate the churches teachings on these matters contradict the Bible.

Anyone seen Benedictus (I can wait)?
First off: One major glaring error.

You’re conclusion that the passage means
"Christ died for all therefore all died in sin
" is already illogical since if Christ died for ALL and ALL DIED IN SIN then Christ’s dying is TOTALLY USELESS since ALL DIED IN SIN none the less.

But isn’t it that as Christians we believe that Christ died for all so that we will NOT DIE IN SIN but rather die TO sin?

If ALL DIED IN SIN, then that means WE ARE ALL DAMNED BECAUSE TO DIE IN SIN IS TO BE DAMNED FOR ALL ETERNITY.

And if ALL DIED IN SIN, then that would include Abraham, Moses, Elijah and all the prophets so all these prophets are damned.

Therefore the Transfiguration is one major hallucination and Jesus lied when he said that Lazarus was with Abraham in heaven.

Therefore there is no such thing as the elect because ALL DYING IN SIN and therefore All being damned, NO ONE ever gets to heaven.

Conclusion: God created man for the sole purpose of sending them to Hell.

So the crucifixion was God’s cruel joke?

Wow! If that is your God, no thanks. I’ll stick to my own.
Oh my.…Benedictus, if you read 1 Cor 5:14 that way I can see how you came up with that set of negative conclusions…but may I humbly submit fine sir that you’re reading the verse…BACKWARDS. Let’s see, I need an analogy…ok,

Analogy to the way I read “one died for all; therefore, all have died”:
‘I wrote this post therefore I turned on my computer’.
Which would mean in time that I turned on the computer to begin with and then wrote the post, or “all had died/were dead in sin to begin with then Christ died for all”. Which makes sense…

Do you see it? If you don’t then all you’ll come up with is crummy conclusions.

Again the all who Christ died for has to be the same set of all that were dead in sins before Christ died for them since they’re in the same verse as I pointed out in my first post on page #4. So that if Mary was part of the all that Christ died for therefore Mary and everyone else was dead in sin to begin with. Only thing is, this is not what the CC teaches…

Hi, Hisalone,

I am a Catholic (cradle type as a matter of fact… with 16 years of Catholic education) and I will be happy to respond.
There is some serious misconception here. I will answer this fully however I want to see if this is consensus of the other Catholics.

Do other Catholics agree with this?
Christ forgave the “Good Theif”. We have the Word of God that this man went to Heaven. But, like Steve b clearly pointed out in an earlier post, it does not mean that the “Good Thief” did not go to Purgatory first. The Bible is silent on this point. You are free to think and believe what you will as long as you believe he went to Heaven.

There is no ‘Bingo’ prize for missing the point of the thread, and providing snide remarks. This is really a serious discussion with most of the posters. I am looking forward to your full and serious answer.

Remember, this thread is a challenge. **Find out where the errors of the Catholic Church lie by identifying where the Bible says one thing and the Catholic Chruch says another. **This is actually a factual exercixe that implies both a knowledge of the Bible and a knowledge of Catholic teaching.

Please, do not disappoint me. If you can not find it, that is OK. (It is OK because, just like a ‘squre circle’, it does not exist 😃 ) Think so… then be my guest and go for it… But, stop trying to fit your thread into this established thread. 😦

Greetings, bro! I think you stepped in it there in the first sentence. Major violation of doctrine and the place where many lose their way. I am speaking of your comment that Paul made many errors when he spoke. You of course were referring to when he spoke in his letters of the (now) Canon. Paul was human and erred like the rest of us, but when he wrote those letters, they were there very breath of God ("…God-breathed") they were inerrant. All that follows from the mouths of men (including popes) must submit to them and line up with them. You know that is basic doctrine.

I don’t think he was trying to say anything Paul WROTE was in error…

He was trying to make the point that Paul was a sinner like the rest of us, and while His words are inspired they were still coming from a sinner.

The text is still truth, and inspired by God…but we have to remember God uses fallible people for His infallible purposes:)

A person who has been sealed, born again, justified (all past tense, done, with lasting results) can still sin this side of heaven. We don’t want to, and it is now against our nature as new creatures in Christ, and oir Father will discipline ,ot punish) us. But Rom 8:1 says there remains how much condemnation for us? NONE. That is why Paul could say “all things are lawful for us”! Grace is so amazing, it seems dangerous. But the law (or threats of punishment for violation), according to Paul, only stirs up sin! It never succeeds in preventing it. If you are a true believer you serve out of “newness of the spirit” rather than the oldness of the law.
finally my turn on this one(you people sure were busy)
2St.Peter 2:21"for it were better for them not to have known the way of justice, than having known it,to turn back for the holy commandment given to them"…a “saved” person can loose salvation by sinning(turning back form the holy comandment) and remaining there(sin) for if a unsaved person is punished by hell for not beleiving how much more would a beleiver be punished for their continuing in sin.
