Sure his daughter has problems. And, she was probably fed up with his foul, abusive mouth, so she ignored the creep’s phone calls. Who can blame the girl? And so, he throws a temper tantrum to an answering machine, what a total and unabashed idiot! The guy is obviously so used to getting his way, he lost touch with reality there.

What a despicable imbecile!

I’m going to be in the minority of this, but having watched calculating 10 and 11 year olds do things to their parents or other adults that it takes the patience of Job to maintain self control… I am on the fence about who I think is “wrong” in this situation.

Yes, children shouldn’t be tied to the phone to receive phone calls from their parent, but at the same time, it seems as if this girl refused to return ANY calls to her father. If she was so “indisposed” when the scheduled time came up, she should have had the decency to call her father ahead of time or afterward to let him know what was up. So I can understand his anger in this situation.

I believe he owes his daughter a sincere apology, but I think there is more to this story that is underneath it all than what we’re seeing. And yes, I’ve certainly been that angry that I wanted to scream and shout like that. I’ve even cleared off my dining room table twice because my 7 year old angered me to the point that I had some rage boiling (she got sent to her room before this happened). Do I want to hurt her? No. Do I need anger management classes? No. Kids will and can enrage parents and an 11 year old will not be damaged for being called a brat if she truly is a brat (or selfish, rotten pig in this case).

Like I said, I know I’m in the minority but that’s ok. It’s all a horrible situation for everyone involved (except the person that released this audio… that’s one cold hearted person that glorified in another human’s misery)
Exactly my point… Thank you!

Rayne100 maybe you should listen to it again. Here’s an unsensored version from youtube.
And basically implied she was a piece of **** as you put it.
Below is the phone conversation that I transcripted from your link…

"Hey I want to tell you something, Ok? And I want to leave a message for you again now, cause its 10:30am here in NY on a Wed. and once again, I have made an a of myself trying to get to a phone to call you at a specific time.**
When the time comes for me to make the phone call, I stop whatever I am doing and I go and I make that phone call.
At 11:00 in the morning in NY and if you don’t pick up the call, at 10:00 at night and you don’t even have that God Damn phone turned on.

I want you to know something,
Ok? I am tired of playing this game with you. I am leaving this message with you to tell you that you have insulted me for the last time.
You have insulted me…you don’t have the brains or the decency as a human being…

I don’t give a damn that you’re 12 years old or 11 years old or that you’re a child, or that your mother is a thoughtless pain in the a who doesn’t care about what you do as far as I’m concerned.**

You have humiliated me for the last time with this phone and when I come out there next week, I’m gonna fly out there for the day just to straighten you out on this issue.
I’m going to let you know just how disappointed in you I am and just how angry I am with you that you’ve done this to me again.

You’ve made me feel like s*** and you’ve made me feel like a fool over and over and over again. And this c***p you pull on me with this God Damn phone situation that you would never dream of doing to your mother and you do it to me constantly and over and over again.

I am going to get on a plane and I’m going to come out there for the day and I’m going to straighten your a** out when I see you. Do you understand me? I’m going to really make sure you get it and then I’m going to get on a plane and come home.
You better be ready, Friday the 20th to meet with me because I’m going to let you know just how I feel about what a rude little pig you really are. You are a rude, thoughtless little pig, ok?"

Take a look at the bolded areas. Forget that this is Alec Baldwin… This man has a point. from what he is saying this is an ongoing problem, you and I do not know how long his daughter has been doing this to him.
He lost it, there is no question, however to judge this man for one voicemail message is wrong…
He has several points. He is letting her know how she is making him feel. It is also his duty as a parent to make sure his children do not behave a certain way.

I agree that he should probably have waited to leave a message with her when he was a little calmer, however, like I said, we don’t know how long this has been going on and how patient he has been up until this point.
At what point do you let your children know that their behavior is unaceptable?
Are you telling me that you have never lost your temper at anyone before and maybe said things that you would regret later on? I find that hard to believe.

Look at what he is actually saying in the highlighted sections and tell me this man isn’t frustrated and upset and desparing.

I don’t want to judge Alec Baldwin, I’d rather get Kim, Alec and the daughter in front of Judge Judy.

I don’t really care much for either of the adults in the situation. They are the ones who divorced and forced a little child to try to choose between them. They both have damned themselves and are now doing their best to damn their daughter.

I will spend my time praying for the daughter.

Alec Baldwin, who I’m disappointed never became a Canadian, is probably a loud mouth jerk who can’t control his temper. What he said to his daughter was AWFUL - shame on him.

BUT, I stand by my original opinion that it was wrong for her Mom to give the tape to the media. I wouldn’t want my worst parenting moment replayed for all the world to hear. Instead of adding fuel to the fire, she’d be a better Mom by reminding her daughter that her father loves her very much - wants a relationship with her and think of ways to accomplish that. Children need their Moms AND Dads in their lives - even if they are loud mouth jerks sometimes.

Thing is Carol Marie, I seriously doubt that this tape is his worst parenting moment. I suspect it’s the tip of the iceberg.

Probably you’re right - but the Mom should go through the courts then & let them decide if he’s unfit to parent. It sounds like she did that, which is why she has custody?

I just think airing your dirty laundry for the world to hear, especially when it involves your own child is a VERY bad idea. Now not only does Ireland (the daughter) know that her Dad called her a thoughtless pig, she knows the whole world knows & is talking about it. Most 11 yr. old girls are getting to the age where almost everything mortifies them - what purpose did this serve that now we all get to listen to the tape over & over again & discuss her relationship with her jerk of a Dad?

Rayne100 I don’t care that is Alec Baldwin, I don’t care who it is. It’s not because he’s famous or that he is Alec Baldwin that I think this is wrong.

Yes he is frustrated, from his comments it does seem he has a genuine complaint. From the beginning you can tell your child their behavior is unacceptable. In fact I have said to my daughter “Your behavior is unacceptable.” I don’t call her a thoughtless little pig or tell her she has no brains. I wouldn’t say such things to my husband who is a grwon man let alone a child. Your acting as if his only choices were to say nothing or to verbaling abuse this child.

This is not just *someone *this is a child and it is his daughter. Yes I have lost my temper including at my daughter but I do not berate her or insult her. Nor have I ever cursed at my child. If I am so angry that I don’t know what I will say I send her to her room until I get a grip. The words he choses are ones of an abuser even the some of the ones that aren’t direct insults.

He placing all the blame and responsibilty on an 11 year old child. “you’ve humilated me” “you’ve insulted me” “you’ve made me feel like a fool”. This is a child. A child who doesn’t pick up the phone. He’s basically saying I’m angry, I’m furious and it’s all you’re fault. What grown man blames such things on a little girl? He’s angry he doesn’t have control over her, he can’t make her do what he wants so he gets verbally abusive -he insults her character, he insults her intelligence and he disparages her mother.

You still haven’t answered the question by the way. What if he showed up at her doorstep and punched her or kicked her? Is that justifiable since she didn’t behave the way he wanted?

If he would have just moved to Canada, like he promised, he would not be in this pickle.

I agree that this should have been handled in the family courts but the people that put this tape out (and they won’t say how they got it) said they have good reason to believe Ireland wanted this out there. I don’t think she is mortified, I think she wanted to get back at him. (Not that I’m saying that’s ok.)

You’re right about that. She’s putting her need to mortify her ex-husband above her child. She, also, is a selfish and self-centered woman. This sounds like a textbook case in how to not conduct a divorce. 😦

From the sounds of the tape, he sounds like a man who has lost control. He’s alienated his daughter by harassing her on the phone, it sounds like. She didn’t want to talk to him, so he had a huge temper tantrum on the answering machine. Her only crime was not wanting to answer his annoying phonecalls. She’s probably sick of his verbally abusive style of communication.

Would you want to have a conversation with a ranting, foul-mouthed creep like this? Then he threatens her on the answering machine? He probably bad mouths her mother to her, and probably has been having screaming rages regularly. So, she didn’t want to talk to him, why should she want to? He’s toxic.

Rayne 89- You are missing my point. My point is that yes, I agree with you that he never should have spoken to his child this way, HOWEVER he does have some justifiable reasons for being angry. The CHILD also has some culpability in the situation and he is right for calling his child out on her behavior. The way in which he did it is not ideal, like I said, he made a mistake, and lost it.
Again we do not know the whole situation.

To answer your last question, punching and kicking is never ok, however I think there are certain times in which a smack on the but is warranted.

I think this makes a good apology against divorce. I’m guessing this is much more of a side issue, than the actual issue between Alec and Kim. Alec is wrong for blowing up like that, I’m guessing Kim may have instigated it, although I cannot say that with certainty. I’m sure the daughter is playing her part too, but I think the biggest problem with that is the divorce, it’s easier to divide and conquer. I’m thinking it’s best to pray for them all, I doubt they are really peaceful spirits right now, since they seem to be wanting to nurse old wounds.

I agree, they all need our prayers and understanding, not our judgement.

This might be the case if this behavior is a result of the divorce. My own experience having lived for 17 years in an abusive marriage tells me that this type of behavior is the cause of the divorce. Why would you think this makes a good apology against divorce? Do you know what it is like to live being subjected to this treatment on a daily basis? It is poison to a child growing up. I really hope that she can see that this is not how you treat someone you love. So often girls with fathers like this end up thinking that this kind of treatment is acceptable, and go on to marry such men. Then another generation is poisoned.

My own experience of not having grown up in a household without an abusvie marriage has drawn me to my conclusion.

Between you and me my conclusion so far, a lot of the reaction by people to this, may very well be colored by our prejudice. On one hand, I’m sure very much Alec may be abusive. Now it is quite easy for this to also generate a public debate, much outside of the situation presented. I think there is certainly a point that women have treated their childrens father awfully bad, out of resentment. He’s resentful too. Then it becomes a ‘which came first, the chicken or the egg.’ You really want to tell them, get over it and be an adult. Though in a truely abusive relationship, the spilt should be there. If you have two people pitching a battle of resentment, trying to one up the other. That too is a poisonous environment for man, woman, and child. That too can spur problems in latter generations. That in my opinion is the apology against divorce. I’ll throw in the caveat unless there is an abusive relationship, (but what relationship should you be in if it is abusive.)
