Their is no Catholic denomination. All other Protestant beliefs incuding 7th day adventists denominated.👍
I know that Wikipedia is not to be considered (necessarily) an authority on matters religious, but the following quote from that source tends to disagree with you Coptic Christian, and would point out that, it is only the Catholic Church itself that sees itself as being “pre-denominational”
Code:
"** The Roman Catholic Church is the largest denomination** with over 1.1 billion members, comprising over half of all Christians worldwide making it the largest denomination for any religion worldwide (**although the Church itself does not view itself as a denomination, but as pre-denominational [1])."** Wikipedia.

I have a large range of experience with other protestant groups, such as Episcopalians, Presbyterians, Methodists, Evangelicals, and Mormons and have never seen the evil Catholic Church wacky conspiracy theories to the extant that the SDA’s do it. My dad was raised as a Baptist, going to bible school and church in the Deep South and he said that never in his life did he hear or experience any of this type of rhetoric. So the “everyone does it” excuse doesn’t really work when you are talking about prophesy DVD’s at Christmas.
So then, how does Christmas differ from any other time in view of the following:
Code:
                                                The Origin of **Christ-mas(s)**
“December 25 is referred to in documents as Christmas Day in A.D. 324 for the first time. Under the Roman emperor Justinian [A.D. 527-565] it was recognized as an official holiday. An old Roman festival played a major part in the choice of this particular day. December 25 in ancient Rome was the ‘Dies Natali Invictus,’ ‘the birthday of the unconquered,’ the day of the winter solstice and at the same time, in Rome, the last day of the Saturnalia, which had long since degenerated into a week of unbridled carnival…” Werner Keller’s book The Bible as History (p. 331). [Hope of Israel Ministries (Ecclesia of YEHOVAH)]

I intend no disrespect because I enjoy the festivities as much as the next man. But, you have to agree that Ebeneezer Scrooge made a valid point when he said that Christmas was, “a poor excuse to pick a man’s pocket every 25th of December.” ( “A Christmas Carol” - Dickens).
It is becoming increasingly apparent that many people are becoming “Holy-Day Christians” in a very self righteous way (present company excepted of course), with apparently very little regard for the Christian way of life.
Remember that Paul cautions the Colossians about the judaizers, “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival,…” Col.2:16

So, all that I am saying is, let’s not get all protective about it.

There is a Latin phrase that seems appropriate here: Absus non tollit usum.

“abuse does not take away use, i.e., is not an argument against correct utility”.

That millions of folks abuse the holy-day is not a reason to argue that it ought not exist at all. 🤷

I really admire your use of that ancient language PR, but where did you get the idea that I am trying to get rid of a “holy-day”. Christmas is a public holiday in most Western countries, and its’ “holiness” is merely a convention. It was useful in times past as a means of introducing Jesus to little children, in fact I talk from personal experience because I was taken to a Catholic Church by my foster parents to see the baby Jesus and the Nativity scene and it had a profound effect on me back in the 60’s, but sadly it seems to have deteriorated into a commercial event. Me get rid of Christmas you say?" Not on my watch! “Bah, Humbug!”

Heh. 😃 Where did you get the idea that I think you were saying we need to get rid of Christmas?

I was simply offering a maxim that even if lots of folks abuse the use of something, the something still may have legitimate use.

Point taken, sorry I misunderstood the intent of your post. But the fact still remains PR, Christmas is not strictly speaking a Holy Day, although it is useful in causing lapsed Christians, and non-Christians to reflect on things with (often) positive results. Keep up your Latin studies.

Thank you for your post.

You might want to consider rereading the letter to the Romans. Paul makes the point to the Judaizing Christians that they are not descendants of Abraham rather descendant of Adam that they have inherited sin from. For by one man sin entered into the world. Jesus is the new adam.👍
CC…BTTG is SDA, and was banned several months ago.

Anyway, do you have the proclamation from one of the councils that settled the canon that one of the reasons for the canon was to have a set of readings for the Mass?

I lose more friends by them being banned and was wondering what happened to BTTG. Kind of creeped me out though, reminded me of BTK.
[It has been decided] that nothing except the canonical Scriptures should be read in the church under the name of the Divine Scriptures. But the Canonical Scriptures are:

Is there a Latin phrase for “stating the obvious”? 😉 It clearly would be apropos here.

Protector, I don’t think there’s a Christian here on this thread who does not realize that Christmas is not “strictly speaking” a Holy Day.

In fact, did you know there’s a campaign called, “Keep Christ in Christmas” that addresses this very fact?

No, I didn’t know that. But, for that idea to succeed you would probably have to, " Get Santa out of Christmas". Lots of luck with that PR.
Thanks for your post!

Why would Santa have to be taken out of the picture? Saints are pretty much a Catholic concept, no?

(In case you didn’t know, Santa is based upon St. Nicholas, a Catholic bishop.)

I was always curious about something. I think we all know that the SDA church believes that Saturday worship is mandated by the bible and I’m only slightly less certain that we all know what you think of Sunday worship. But there is a church near me that gathers on Wednesdays - just Wednesdays, not other days - for worship. It seems, also, to be growing in popularity to gather on Wednesdays.

Since Wednesday is neither the Sabbath, nor the Sunday “mark”, does the SDA church have any teaching regarding it?
Yes, please read on…
Saturday is the 7th day is the true Sabbath. Isaiah 66:23 And it shall come to pass, [that] from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. We all will be worshiping God in heaven and on the new earth on the Sabbath ((Saturday) the scripture says ALL FLESH, not just the Jews…
The 4th commandment is, “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.” (Exodus 20:8-11, KJV).
Look in any dictionary or Encyclopedia on what they say…I grew up going to church on Sunday and went to a Catholic high school. After studying the bible very long and hard, I read and found that Jesus was raised on Sunday the 1st day of the week (King James vesion). Before Jesus went to the cross he gave no instruction to replace the truth Sabbath Saturday the 7th day to Sunday 1 day of the week the day he rose from the grave,
There are at least four ways which we can tell for certain that Saturday is the seventh day.
The Bible: It clearly reveals that Jesus was crucified on the Preparation day (Luke 23:54). His closest followers rested as commanded on the Sabbath day (Luke 23:56; Mark 16:1). Most Christians recognize Jesus died on Friday, the Preparation day; He rested the next day the Sabbath, and rose the first day, Sunday. The Sabbath is the day between Friday and Sunday, or the seventh day—Saturday.
Language: In more than one hundred and forty languages in the world, the word for the seventh day, which we call Saturday, is the word Sabbath. Language testifies to the Sabbath’s preservation through the centuries.
Astronomy: The leading astronomers in the world testify to the fact that the weekly cycle has never changed. Centers such as the Royal Naval Observatory in the U.S. and The Royal Greenwich Observatory in England affirm the fact of a constant weekly cycle.
History: The Jewish people have kept an accurate record of the Sabbath. For more than four thousand years, they have preserved the true Sabbath on Saturday.
Mark 2:27 And Jesus said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:
(it does not say it was made for the jews only)
The Venerable Day of the Sun.” Sunday is the first day of the week, and from it we get our name Sunday. When Constantine pressed his pagan hordes into the church they were observing the day of the sun for their adoration of the sun god. It was their special holy day. In order to make it more convenient for them to make the change to the new religion, Constantine accepted their day of worship, Sunday, instead of the Christian Sabbath which had been observed by Jesus and His disciples. Remember that the way had been prepared for this already by the increasing anti-Jewish feelings against those who were accused of putting Jesus to death. Those feelings would naturally condition many Christians to swing away from something which was held religiously by the Jews. It is therefore easier to understand how the change was imposed on Christianity through a strong civil law issued by Constantine as the Emperor of Rome. The very wording of that law, by the way, can be found in any reliable encyclopedia. Those early Christians, feeling that the Jews should not be followed any more than necessary, were ready to swing away from the Sabbath which was kept by the Jews. Only law that was done away with on the cross was the sacrificial system, the 10 commandments are still binding… Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here [are] they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.
John 15:10 If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love.

Firstly, welcome to the CAFs, Travis. **
Yes, please read on…
Saturday is the 7th day is the true Sabbath.
Secondly, no one here disputes that Saturday is the “true Sabbath”.

What Christians proclaim is that we are not bound to honor the Sabbath, but to keep holy the Lord’s Day, which is Sunday.

Thirdly, it would be helpful if you use paragraphs and spaces when writing long posts. It aids in making your posts more legible and reader-friendly.
