Before some parents were allowed to opt their children out of this program, but opting out for children 15 years old, without exceptopn, was just totally eliminated by the English government. Catholics as well as Moslems and other Christians have been protesting, but this has been useless. The English official in charge of education said that Catholic schools can say contraceptives are wrong, but they are required to teach the children how to use them, and how to use them outside marriage. Nor as he says, they cannot teach homophobia and they must teach about abortion.
I wonder if anyone on this thread who happens to live in the UK would like comment on this?

Jesus Christ, Son Of God, Have Mercy On Us, Who Are Sinners…:signofcross:

Well I agree there shouldn’t be a bunch of homophobes running around.
If somebody is going to have sex outside marriage- then they should without a doubt, use protection.
and abortion is just reality. Its not right, but its reality and millions of them happen daily. =/

Something similar is happening in Canada as well… they are trying to create a new ‘health’ curriculum that would teach contraception, “tolerance” of homosexuality, and even things like masturbation to children!

I’m studying to be a teacher… and honestly I don’t care what they do to me but I won’t teach any of this. If it gets enforced to the point that I can’t teach Catholic morality, I’d switch to private school. But - I think that even though Catholic schools are publically funded, they are Catholic which means they should teach Catholic values. And when we say they are publically funded, that means tax dollars pay for them, - and the tax dollars of the Catholic parents who are sending the children to these schools. The parents should have a say in what their children are taught. Since when does the government have total control like this!

I’m saddened that this is happening in the UK 😦

Lord have mercy!

I agree but when they say “tolerance” of homosexuals, they mean support for homosexuality. I went to a talk in my university for future teachers and they said that the Catholic Church’s disagreement with homosexuality is homophobia and fear! That is ridiculous! See it’s all rhetoric… they are saying that if we only disagree with homosexuality, we are being “hateful”, “fearful”, etc. We are not allowed to follow our faith in this way.
If somebody is going to have sex outside marriage- then they should without a doubt, use protection.
but I don’t think it is right to teach teens that having sex outside of marriage, or using contraception, is alright. And when this is taught, it usually sends the message that it’s permissable.
and abortion is just reality. Its not right, but its reality and millions of them happen daily. =/
that is true, but again if we teach it, we will be encouraging it… imo… 😦

Are there any instances of schools teaching children to be homophobic in the past? If yes, how about the recent past?

Also, why is there no doubt that people should use “protection” if having sex outside of marriage? Has nothing good ever come from an unplanned pregnancy? How many women, ten years after an unwed pregnancy let’s say, are on record saying it ruined their life or something like that? I’m completely ignoring the topics of sin, God’s plan for marital love, and psychological consequences of both premarital sex and contraception, and yet I still find my doubts reasonable.

Millions of abortions a day? I hope this is inaccurate or hyperbole. Even worldwide, I think there are less than 1,000,000 per day. If not, then God help us all.

… they must teach about abortion.
YES! I consider this part to be a huge win! I personally didn’t think abortion was a big deal until I actually learned what it is. I certainly hope these schools teach the TRUTH about abortion.

I first imagine that this is the gov’t way of saying… Hey, it turns out that 15 y/o’s are getting pregnant, get stds, and there is lots of drama with regard to homosexuality (usually bullying… )

And we also know that stats show that Catholic girls and women keep ending up as part of these stats.

So, maybe it’s about time we actually TEACH about these things. A FULL SCALE education.

Here is a condom. It FAILS 5-20% of the time. This is how you accuratley put one one. Show it with the banana, nice and slow. Now, this is what usually ends up happening, because you (or your) teenage boyfriend is in a hurry. As it turns out. Condoms work in the same fashion if you’re married or not. If you’re married and it fails, your parents aren’t likely to flip out! If you’re still in school and it fails, you just became a stat. Let’s talk about all the things that get traded via fluids if the condem breaks.

Now, let’s talk about abortion. Better yet, Let’s WATCH some. But first we’re going to watch some 4 D ultrasounds of babies in the womb. Let’s look and see when we can see heart beats, fingers, mouths… Oh, look. That baby is yawning! And this one is sucking it’s thumb. They do that when they are sleepy, and when they want to comfort themselves.

Now. let’s watch an abortion. (show the video of the baby on ultrasound being aborted) how it fights… etc. Now, let’s talk about what risk a girls body is at with an ELECTIVE surgury. Uterine damage, etc.

Finally, let’s talk about homosexuality. It turns out that some people are attrackted to the same sex. (if teaching from a religious environment), we are taught this is not something to be acted on. We are also taught, however, that a person in this situation is to be treated with respect. It’s best to employ the golden rule here. Even if that person is acting as they shouldn’t based on our religious beliefs… You need to show their person respect. If in a public school environement, I would tell students if they have religious beliefs that don’t support homosexual activity, the best they can do for a person is to pray for them. But for everyone… these are people too. Treat them as such.

In all reality, a 15 y/o should be able to have these sorts of conversations. It’s never my favorite thing when they try to take parental rights away. But I also find it’s not realistic to pretend that non of these things are happening. I’d be looking to put a spin on them. They exist, and here’s all the negative things you need to know about them.

ETA: but I wouldn’t SAY they are NEGATIVE things… I’d just be sharing the truth about them. condems break, abortions kill, surgury can be damaging, Homosexuals are people too.

My comment on this is that the stories linked-to are out of date. These proposals were dropped even before May’s General Election.

So, while getting cross about things is all very well, it’s not actually happening.

Thanks for letting us know. That’s a relief!

If it were happening (and such a thing very well could within out lifetime), I think faithfully gave some great ideas. As with all things, we teach it within a Catholic context.

You cant be serious. You’d rather have somebody outside marriage (specifically a teen) who will be having sex NOT use birth control? I would rather the person used birth control if they are without a doubt going to be having sex. You can only control a person so far before they will do something behind your back. And if they are going to be having sex outside marriage, then they need to use protection. But you think that they shouldn’t?

Now THAT is sad.

:banghead: People these days…

What is sad about it? A baby is a glorious gift from God. I used to think like you do, but I teach my children all of the teaching of the Church, rather than the lies of the secular world. While fornication and adultery are mortal sins, using artificial birth contol is also a mortal sin. Would you tell someone that as long as they are robbing a house (a mortal sin, I’m sure you would agree), they should probably kill the occupants to make sure there are no witnesses?

Hahaha. Id rather some teenager used birth control than having an unwanted child.
Its just much wiser. And I have millions of people who obviously agree with me.

You’re absolutely right that millions of people agree with you. The Republic of China supports population control too.

On the contrary the wiser thing to do would be to abstain. To feed children false ideas about safe sex is to do them a disservice, as they are essentially being taught to gamble with their lives. “Faithfully” had stated earlier some stats about the reliability of condoms and such assertions can be support by viewing publications from IPPF and the Guttmacher Institute.

Actions which teach contraception do nothing other than trivialize the sexual act and make it mundane, something than can be given away at a whim, but such programmes fail to realize the psychological ramifications of premarital sexual intercourse and reduce the human body to something common place, not made in the image and likeness of God.

The fact of the matter is if someone is not ready to have a child, they shouldn’t be participating in sexual intercourse, as reproduction is the natural consequence of the act. Essentially, children are being taught how to sin and only to compound their sinful behavior by trying to hide their sinful behavior by contraception. They are being open to a world of emotional issues because often times they are not mentally ready for such behaviors. Sadly, such programmes allow the lines between of love and lust to be blurred and contribute the corruption of our children.
