I know what homophobe means but most people tend to use it to categorize anybody who just doesn’t want to be around gays period. That doesn’t mean they’re ‘afraid’ of them, they just don’t want to be around them all because they’re ‘gay’. And thats just dumb.

In other words, people misuse the word. Big deal…their ignorance of the word doesn’t change the meaning. It just displays their ignorance.

What I really wanted to say, sticking to the topic of the OP is: Dropping the morality of this for a second (And let me just say first that family-life issues should be taught by families - schools should stick to English, math, science, history and venereal diseases!): Why the heck does anyone need any training at all in the use of any contraceptive? Seriously? This should not be a subject for school because it is just plain obvious! Did school teach you how to swallow an aspirin? Put on your socks? Not sure what body part the condom was designed for? It’s asinine. If I was designing the school curriculum it would all be puss, sores, lesions, boils, dementia and death (i.e., the consequences!), followed by 40 hours of labwork babysitting infants and toddlers (the other consequences!). We would also take a fieldtrip at midnight to the emergency room to see how to console the sick and injured children that show up.

I first imagine that this is the gov’t way of saying… Hey, it turns out that 15 y/o’s are getting pregnant, get stds, and there is lots of drama with regard to homosexuality (usually bullying… )

And we also know that stats show that Catholic girls and women keep ending up as part of these stats.

So, maybe it’s about time we actually TEACH about these things. A FULL SCALE education.

Here is a condom. It FAILS 5-20% of the time. This is how you accuratley put one one. Show it with the banana, nice and slow. Now, this is what usually ends up happening, because you (or your) teenage boyfriend is in a hurry. As it turns out. Condoms work in the same fashion if you’re married or not. If you’re married and it fails, your parents aren’t likely to flip out! If you’re still in school and it fails, you just became a stat. Let’s talk about all the things that get traded via fluids if the condem breaks.

Now, let’s talk about abortion. Better yet, Let’s WATCH some. But first we’re going to watch some 4 D ultrasounds of babies in the womb. Let’s look and see when we can see heart beats, fingers, mouths… Oh, look. That baby is yawning! And this one is sucking it’s thumb. They do that when they are sleepy, and when they want to comfort themselves.

Now. let’s watch an abortion. (show the video of the baby on ultrasound being aborted) how it fights… etc. Now, let’s talk about what risk a girls body is at with an ELECTIVE surgury. Uterine damage, etc.

Finally, let’s talk about homosexuality. It turns out that some people are attrackted to the same sex. (if teaching from a religious environment), we are taught this is not something to be acted on. We are also taught, however, that a person in this situation is to be treated with respect. It’s best to employ the golden rule here. Even if that person is acting as they shouldn’t based on our religious beliefs… You need to show their person respect. If in a public school environement, I would tell students if they have religious beliefs that don’t support homosexual activity, the best they can do for a person is to pray for them. But for everyone… these are people too. Treat them as such.

In all reality, a 15 y/o should be able to have these sorts of conversations. It’s never my favorite thing when they try to take parental rights away. But I also find it’s not realistic to pretend that non of these things are happening. I’d be looking to put a spin on them. They exist, and here’s all the negative things you need to know about them.

ETA: but I wouldn’t SAY they are NEGATIVE things… I’d just be sharing the truth about them. condems break, abortions kill, surgury can be damaging, Homosexuals are people too.

I agree with most of your post. The question is not that kids are not old enough to handle these things, the question is, whether to hand your kids over to a life of sin or to prepare them to live a life of virtue. And the problem here is that these schools are encouraging lives of sin.

It’s true that homosexuality, contraception, abortion, and all such trademarks of the culture of death are rampant in society. What we can do is, not only pray, but get the message out through Catholic teachers. I say teachers because there are three types of Catholic teachers we need: we need Catholic parents teaching their kids like no one else can about subjects which are theirs alone to explain, we need Catholic schoolteachers in Catholic schools putting forth Catholic curriculum, and in public schools moderating curriculum, i.e. weeding out the forces of the culture of death that are found in so many public school educations, and finally, Catholic priests not afraid to give an unforgettable homily that nails the point home now and then.

So there, to me a proper Catholic education is the key to the future of Catholicism, an education which revolves around these three facets: parents, schoolteachers, and priests.

The purpose of a school is to educate students in the arts and sciences and to teach religion. State schools have generally abandoned the third component of their purpose. When the government attempts to mold students according to some social agenda, like making them precocious, or accepting of homosexual behavior, it transgresses the rights of parents to direct the moral upbringing of their children.

Children belong to their parents, not the state.

These English proposals, like their counterparts in the US, are wrong. Parents must resist them, if necessary by removing their children and teaching them at home.

There’s been a change of Government since then.

A thread in 2015 saying that a potential Labour Government might introduce such a measure might end up being relevant but this thread isn’t.

I’m not trying to stop discussion, merely pointing out to people who may talk about the proposals (withdrawn by the Labour Government before the election) as if they’re about to become Law that they are not.

The most important thing to not in the proposals (i.e, THE ONES THAT ARE NOT HAPPENING) is that there was no apparent opt-out provision. This is a disturbing trend. Sweden has several cases pending against parents alleging child abuse because they prefer to teach their children at home. In at least one of the cases, the child was removed from his parents by the state. This kind of thing is a totally unjustifiable intrusion on the rights of parents to raise their children as they see fit. The state cannot introduce this kind of curriculum unless it can use a strong hand against dissenters.

The county had a similar fight this month but it creeps into the text books anyway. This sort of “re-education” can be slowed, as evidently in the UK, but it is nearly impossible to stop.
