All Food store customers must wear masks

That’s similar to here. But in rural areas like where I live, we bend the rules a lot more. I go into stores without a mask on and as long as nobody complains, I leave it off. Rarely does anyone complain.

We get tired of being called “sheep” and being advised to “stand up against tyranny”. I got news for you, folks. My boss doesn’t like getting pushed around and if he were only standing up for himself, he’d do it in a heartbeat. But he’s got 100 people who depend on him for their livelihoods; he has no right to risk their paychecks to make a statement. He’s trying to keep everyone on the payroll, even on shorter hours, and he cannot afford to get fined or shut down. And he doesn’t appreciate people being rude to his employees while they’re doing their best to give friendly courteous service under the most limited of circumstances. The name-calling and snide remarks are really soul-crushing. Anyone who wants to defy the mandates needs to keep in mind that the average guy or gal behind the counter isn’t at fault, they really hate being the hall monitor, and they don’t deserve to be trampled on. Like I said before, if you don’t want to wear a mask, don’t come into a business that requires it (especially if you just want to get your jollies by harrumphing your self-righteousness in front of the other customers who more than likely don’t like wearing the mask either but just want to get some shopping done without being total jerks to the employees) and if you want to go into a business that requires them, wear it without being obnoxious or belligerent.

Really, it’s not that hard to be nice. I get a lot of customers who don’t like the masks either, but they’re sympathetic to our position behind the counter. My hands are raw from sanitizing every surface in sight and they have consumed more alcohol than my liver has (quite a feat, considering the dumpster fire this year has been.) We’re doing everything we can to stay open to serve the public, even the ungrateful ones who would throw it all away for us just so they can prove they’re not giving in to the “oppression” and can’t be “controlled”.

Pay my bills and buy my groceries–then maybe I’ll concede you have the right to endanger my livelihood.

No it isn’t. And those who don’t want to wear masks deserve kindness in the same way as those who do.
It’s not kind to try to force businesses and their employees to violate a mandate that could result in a fine or closure just because people don’t WANT to wear a mask.

For the record, most of the people following the mandates don’t WANT to wear a mask, either.

I’ll agree with you when I hear of mask-wearers turning over merchandise racks, and yelling and spitting at unmasked “freedom fighters.”

that kind of behavior is totally wrong but is the exception. Most of us unmasked people are peaceful

I believe in peace. If I’m in a store and they ask me to put my mask on I do. If they don’t, I dont. I live in the Wild West. Most don’t.

If this sign is on the door, the employee inside shouldn’t have to ask you to put on a mask…

A lot of places have that sign on the door only because the state requires it. They don’t care if I wear a mask or not.

That would be me. I’m currently at a Walmart getting a tire replaced and doing exactly that.

That’s totally fine. You can refuse my patronage for any reason you want. I’m about 30 pounds overweight. You can deny me service for that. It’s your store, your right.

I can almost guarantee if you walk in the store and the employees and other customers are wearing masks, then they do care.

You’re not “peaceful.” You’re indifferent to the possibility of increasing others’ risk of contracting a dangerous virus because you don’t want to deal with the minimal inconvenience of a piece of cloth over your face, or because you have this childish “you’re not the boss of me!” reaction to a public health mandate. It’s not just a different choice where we can say “live and let live.” This attitude increases the risk for everyone and you deserve to get flak for it.
