No one has suggested that confession be replaced by an altar call. It would be a good way to get people to realize that the next stop should be the confessional. Just because Protestants came up with the idea doesn’t mean that we can’t or shouldn’t use it.
Amen and it is a good idea!!!

Altar is for physical not metaphysical sacrifice.I personally don’t give a hoot if they have altar calls or not. They tout that something not stated overtly in the Bible is not biblical.By the standards that some of these folks use to judge others they ’
-I do not mean Gary(you) this is generic. I’m talking to non-Catholis-primarily Evangelicals and Fundamentalists. Notice-I say ;They’,‘them’-I.m sorry if I led you to believe I was talking about you.I was not.They- them the Unseen masses:rolleyes:
Quiestion what is the name of this thread and if you don’t want anyone to say anything you don’t agree with then why have a thread If you only want people that don’t have any Ideas except what you think they should they make it an exclusive thread:thumbsup:

Well my question was Does ir say anywhere not to have an Altar service?
The issue is are they unbiblical! What does unbiblical mean? It means not in the Bible.
Since alter calls is not in the bible, they are unbiblical.

Lady-what the heck are you talking about? The thread is about altar calls, whether they are biblical or not. According to some of our separated brethren traditions that we hold, are not found in the scripture- therefore they are unbiblical.
My statement is if you use the same criteria with the separted brethren that something has to be in the bible in order to be sufficient, worthy of use, then altar calls fall to meet that criteria which they use to measure other denominations. Therefore they are being hypocritical toward other denominations by stating something is unbiblical when altar calls ARE NOT found in the Bible. They have painted themselves into a corner.
the altar calls can be an expressions of faith, the hope of redemption and Salvation and
I think it does no harm but many much good.
But in fundamentalist thinking there is only black and white. If it is in the bible? Good! Not in the
Bible? Man made and bad. That is the problem. They (the separated brethren) should not use parameters on others that they(separated brethren )do not use on themselves. That is hypocritical.
My personal opinion is that the Lord can use whatever He wants to draw people toward Him. even if it isn’t in the bible it can still be effacious.I hope that clarifies any misunderstandings.

Lady what the heck I am talking about is that if one doesnot agree with some they are they thrown out. with the bath water and the baby. And if God can use whatever He wants to draw people to Him then Altar calls can be used regardless if in the Bible of not:thumbsup:

I once read in Karl Keating’s book called Catholicism and Fundamentalism that altar calls, a practice in which christians come forward to make a public confession of their belief and commitment to Jesus Christ are unbiblical. I no longer have that book, but if anyone can find the quote I would appreciate it.

"…The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart," that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:8-13

I really don’t know how Mr. Keating could say that in his book unless he missed this passage from Romans. Could anyone shed some light on this?
🤷
The strange thing about altar calls is that the places that have them usually don’t have a real altar.

Mr. Keating is not challenging even one iota of scripture. What he challenges is the man-made tradition of the “altar call”. Where is this term - heck, where is this process in scripture? It is not. Must one be near a Protestant service in order to accept Jesus? Must there be a faux altar in place before your heart can be changed? Many of these “altar calls” occur in locations where there is not even an altar!

As with so many new, never before seen or heard of practices, I suspected that this one also came about in America in the 1800s. Let’s ask some brothers in the faith, who are even anti-Catholic, about such man-made traditions:

So, it is your interpretation of scripture that we disagree with. A suggestion: if you really love scripture (of course!), you will pick up an un-edited (Catholic) bible and receive the fulness of the Word of God for the first time in your life. Amen.

Look at the subject of this thread folks!!! The subject is whether so called alter calls are biblical or not.
The focus of my posts (and of this entire thread, by the way) is to inform those who claim to be ‘bible only’ churches demand that everything be biblical, but are the very ones who use the non biblical practice of alter calls themselves.

Since alter calls is not in the bible, they are, in fact, unbiblical and it is hypocritical for Protestants to criticize Catholics for doing things that are unbiblical when their very own man made traditions like alter calls are unbiblical.

The point of my post is the hypocracy of criticizing us when the very things that are doing are unbiblical.

Maybe I am nutty or something but there is more criticizing here than I have ever heard from my Protestant friends and family. In fact in my community all the faiths got together Sunday evening for a Praise worship and it was fantastic! My Catholic Priest shared and so did 6 other faiths. What an out pouring of unity. There was no critizism there:thumbsup:

Thank you that was my point exactly!my post is pasted belowMy point exactly the same.Apparently some people don’t get and misconstrue everything written. My criticism is not with altar calls per se but with those who criticize everyone else for being unbiblical yet have no biblical basis for altar calls

Responding to false accusations by protestants is not the same thing as those Protestants are doing.
*The subject of this thread is whether so called alter calls are biblical or not. *
The posts are to those who claim to be ‘bible only’ churches and demand that everything be biblical that are the very ones who use the non biblical practice of alter calls themselves. They should end the hypocritical accusations, then I would have no need to respond to them.
Those who do not do this need not be offended.

The way I look at it is: There are not three years’ worth of days written about in the Gospels. I haven’t counted, but it’s probably more like a month’s worth. Jesus taught perfect, Heavenly principles all day every day for 1095 days +/-. So, bible-only types are hanging eternity on the 2.7% of Jesus’ teaching that is in the bible. So, the Lord most certainly relies on other means of drawing those to Himself.
