I did admit it was improper, but no. It is not a moral evil. It may not be an idol, as the Vatican insists, but it certainly doesn’t belong in a church. How did they make themselves the authority? I tell ya. And the progressives talk about clericalism.

Not very highly, save it’s for an important cause like feeding someone’s family
Urgent need may justify it by the universal destination of goods. The same principle cannot be used to justify theft and destruction.

Unless its a goose.

Except its not as stated above. Any more then you worship a saint.

No one is arguing you do or should but how and why.

But they took another’s property without permission, they assumed it was an idol, as you did, and perhaps it is not, and they disregarded the authority of the Church, making themselves the authority. How is that not a moral evil?
If someone gave my parents an idol statue & I knew they didn’t want it in their house, it would not be stealing for me to take the statue and throw it away for them.

God is our Father and we know he doesn’t want idols in His house. So one of his sons tossed them out for Him.

Am I missing something?

This whole thing has me confused about idols again… I’ve read that these statues were presented as the culture’s own depiction of Mary. Then I read that the Vatican said they are just statues representing life. If nobody is worshiping the statues, what makes them idols?

I saw the image with candles burning next to it & also connected to a ceremony which involved bowing & lying prostrate - postures of worship. Also I believe an Amazonian leader directly stated that the image was pagan and NOT Catholic in nature.

How did they make themselves the authority?
The Church did not make herself the authority. The authority can only be given by God. The authority was given to the Church by Jesus Christ.

These thieves, in stark contrast, have attempted to claim the authority for themselves. They have, in effect, falsely ordained themselves as the ultimate authority.

Yes they were all oriented around the idol and bowing on their knees with face in mat. I guess it was just a yoga class showing Pope Francis some stretch exercises?

And when they put that black ring on Pope’ Francis’ finger, I suppose that was a yoga ring of some sort?

Amazing the intellectual gymnastics people are using to say this wasn’t what it was.

Why is the death penalty immoral?
Why can you eat pork?

I’m not wrong, what’s funny is my memory for not having one is better than yours.
That is if you must laugh.

Well, English isn’t dependant on YOUR definitions as much as websters or oxford.
Define what you like to yourself.

Try to avoid googling, GL.

That doesn’t sound like worship. People kneel and pray in front of statues all the time in the Church because of what they represent. The statue of Mary is crowned with flowers and adorned in a cloak in some ceremonies. People even kiss statues and objects like the cross in veneration.

And now (according to you) the thieves are not merely priests, but saints as well!

Talk about idolatry. Power, pride, idolatry of the self.

Pachamama is the Andean pagan Goddess of fertility.

What business does that statue have in a Catholic Church?

What still bugs me is that there still has not been a answer about why Dr. Marshall’s twitter was down for a weekend and it has popped back up like his account had never been deleted with the idols being cast into the Tiber. This whole thing is completely bizarre.

Maybe he went to Rome and is the one who orchestrated the throw-the-thing-in-the-Tiber ‘operation? I would not be surprised.

I have nothing but respect for Dr. Marshall but it seems that he is hiding something and until he finally is clear on why his twitter on what happend

I have the same thought. He starting tweeting at around 9:59 rome time which is 2:59 AM central time. The whole symbolism of throwing it off at the bridge to the Castel San Angelo is something what he would do. This Micheal De Bufalo guy seems odd he joined Youtube on the same day he posted the video.

🤣🤣
Give me a break…

This is what he actually said in the article you linked. Note the last sentence
“Tradition is the guarantee of the future and not the container of the ashes,” said Francis.

“Tradition is like roots [of a tree], which give us nutrition to grow,” he explained. “You will not become like the roots. You will flower, grow, give fruit. And the seeds become roots for other people.”

“The tradition of the church is always in movement,” he said. “The tradition does not safeguard the ashes.”

Francis did not specify in his remarks whom he had in mind while speaking of Catholic traditionalists.
The headline is the spin the author put on the subject
