Interesting. More publicity and photo ops for the guy. If they call Jesse Jackson a ‘poverty pimp’ how should Keyes be described?
Interesting. The anti-abortion protester arrested, the pro-abortion advocate honored…at Our Lady School…
The NDU students who are protesting bo’s appearance at their commencement asked that all demonstrations on May 17 be done with dignity. No graphic images, yelling, whatnot. I think NDU had the right to arrest these two for grandstanding. They weren’t invited to protest the issue by the students and they were on private property. That was why they were arrested.

Yes I am pro life, very strongly. Ask Bo Weevil. And NO I don’t think Jenkins had his head facing forward when he invited bo to give the commencement speech.

It is not May 17th yet so the demonstrators have every right in the USA to be non-violent protesters.

To use this form of thinking then we should not protest at abortion facilities or hospitals since they have asked that we not be there.

H… I wonder if Rosa Parks had the “right” to stand firm and say “I will NOT move to the back of the bus!!”

Thank God for people that are brave and couragous enough to stand up for our GOD GIVEN rights. These are the people that bring about change. I LOVE the Rosa Parks story. She was gutsy. 😃

a couple things here
  1. yes notre dame is a private school and private property. i have never been there, but i assume like every other school of that size it has at least a couple roads going through it. the sidewalks to those would be public property and people would be free to be on them right? if so why not protest there unless they did do it just to get arrested(which may not be a bad way of getting more people aware of this situation)
  2. does the school have plans to change their policy for graduation day, or will the nonstudent protestors be arrested then too?

Oh … I didn’t know he was trespassing. But is there a sign saying no trespassing? Does any member of the public who crosses the property get arrested? Or just those who are protesting?

Nope. The University grounds are private property and are not open to public use. They also find themselves in violation of this part of Notre Dame’s DuLac Guide to Student Life:
Demonstrations
All demonstrations must be registered in writing with the Associate
Vice President for Residence Life and also must observe the following
rules:
a. All demonstrations must be peaceful and orderly.
b. Only members of the University community may organize or
lead a demonstration on campus.
c. Demonstrators may not impede the freedom of the
University community.
Randall Terry’s group protests daily on the public streets right outside ND’s gates and aren’t bothered. Dr. Keys intentionally sought arrest for trespass; ND didn’t go after him for being pro-life, but for staging a protest on private university grounds that did not have the appropriate permits. The administration at ND has done this in the past for protesters on every side of every issue–the same was done to gay rights activists when they came to ND a couple of years ago on their nationwide tour.

AND it’s important to note that ND is not totally closed to protests, even of this particular issue and even if they involve outsiders. ND Response, a student-led organization, has requested and received the appropriate permits for peaceful pro-life demonstrations in opposition to President Obama’s honorary degree to take place Saturday and Sunday of Commencement weekend. Fr. Pavone, Bishop D’Arcy, and others, will be present and will not be arrested because they have the right to be there. All here interested in attending are more than welcome to come to campus and pray with us!

Randall Terry and Alan Keyes do not have a moral monopoly on this issue, and turning themselves into martyrs isn’t really helping their cause, I don’t think.

The guidelines are clear. He was arrested for violating them, not for his pro-life views. I agree with Kath on this.

I am backing the students request that they want a quiet and dignified protest of which THEY are in charge. Keye’s and Terry’s appearance on campus will give some the idea they don’t have to honor the wishes of the students and what should be a day the student’s cherish, after four years of hard work, could turn into a free for all.

I don’t agree with Keye’s and Terry’s appearance on campus at this time at all. If they want to protest after the commencement, more power to them.

Terry lectured Bishop D’Arcy about not having a stronger protest. Who is Terry to lecture a Bishop who is doing what he can to protest this fiasco? D’Arcy will not appear at the commencement location, but he MAY appear with prayer groups at other areas of the campus on May 17th…

Protesting outside abortion clinics is done on city, not private property.
Keyes and Terry and their group could have protested outside campus.

Please don’t lecture me about what is being done and not done at NDU. I am VERY STRONGLY Pro Life, but some things are proper and some are not.

Having seen elts1956’s previous posts on this issue, I just want to offer moral support. Sure comes across as very strongly pro-life to me.

The students have asked that ALL graphic bearing, yelling, protesters not come. Those students who have chosen not to attend “their own commencement exercises” in protest of bo, have welcomed anyone who wants to join them in prayerful protest at various locations on Campus that day.

Go to www.ndresponse.com for more information. I have been following this and corresponding with a couple of students, in pro life groups, since this fiasco began.

There must be some kind of pattern. A few years back, at Our Lady of Loretto HS (all girls) in Sacramento, the prolife student whose mom exposed the presence of an abortion clinic “deathscort” on the teaching staff of the school was expelled. Apparently these schools have no concern about the kind of message going to the students. Can you really blame Pelosi for thinking the Catholic Church is pro-abortion?
Of COURSE this wasn’t broadcast by the public media, or maybe I just wasn’t paying attention???

The students have asked that ALL graphic bearing, yelling, protesters not come.
why?

why not do everything in our power to show our disapproval of the abortion situation and the most pro-death president ever being honored by a Catholic school?

they have every right to their opinion, but they dont have a monopoly on how we as Catholics or Americians for that fact protest something. personally i say we fight this war to the last man and the last round. in my opinion holding back is the same as cooperating.

H… I wonder if Rosa Parks had the “right” to stand firm and say “I will NOT move to the back of the bus!!”
Of Course she did, but she didn’t make a scene. The bus driver may have, but she didn’t. A college commencement is traditionally very low key. The students who ARE protesting bo’s appearance have every right to ask that this be maintained. Again, I say, that by their appearance, Keyes and Terry at this time, MAY give people the impression that anything goes. A commencement ceremony is not the time, or place, to have a free for all. Don’t you think if Keyes and Terry would show up on commencement day very vocal anti life groups would be there too? I understand they were met by students wearing pro choice ? T shirts. Is that the kind of commencement day you would like to have?

I think the students are right in leaving THIS SITUATION in God and Mother Mary’s hands. They have prayed. They are giving Red Envelopes to Jenkins to give to bo. (that will be the day) I had suggested they put them all in a basket and give them to bo themselves, but I suppose they felt even that would be too obvious in light of the ceremony taking place.

Go to www.ndresponse.com to find out particulars. They certainly don’t NEED Keyes nor Terry at THIS time. 🙂

Thank you. There is a time for everything under the sun…👍

Read my post #37. This is the way I think about it and I’m not going to change my mind. :dts:

maybe the students don’t, but i think the unborn need every ally they can get to fight for them everyday until the day they can rest safe in the womb free from the threat of government sanctioned genocide.

so dont expect us all to fall in line and not be opposed to obama, his culture of death, and the flatteries placed upon him by the school.
