They seem rather Protestant; pretty enough, but rather Protestant. I traced the dolls to Life of Faith, and then to Mission City Press, and then to Zondervan, then to Harper Collins.

The earning statements recently released were for 3rd quarter. The boycott did not begin until one month in to the 4th quarter. Those earnings will not be released until early next year.

My mom called a few days ago to tell me that the “I Can promise” and “Girls Inc. donations” were not mentioned in the latest American Girl catalogue. She looked all through it and could not find anything about it. I think we are having an affect, keep up the heat as much as you can!
There will be an organized, peaceful protest at American Girl Place in NYC on Dec. 10, 2005 from 10 am - noon if anyone is interested. It will be done with much taste, no graphic photos etc, and will be done by the same people who held the protest in Chicago. There were children present with their American Girl Dolls. Everything was peaceful and kid-friendly. I am hoping I can go, and am trying to work the schedule with my husband.

Doesn’t American Girl realize that it’s killing it’s own customers?
When I was younger, I used to love American Girl. Not anymore. I can’t understand why they are doing this, supporting pro-death organizations. How does that help them to make money?

My daughters magazine subscription is due to be renewed, and I’ve been holding off to see what is going to happen.
I finally wrote a note on the bill.
We will not be renewing our American Girl subscription. By choosing to support Girls Inc, you are proving yourselves to be a company we not longer wish to do business with.

It probably hasn’t had an effect because myself and several people I know personally are supporting American Girl Doll on this and ordered products BECAUSE of this organized boycott. I bought my cousin the Addy doll for Christmas. And, I emailed them and let them know why I was ordering the doll! I am even thinking about ordering one doll every six months or so to have on hand for my daughters when I have (or adopt) them.
Others I know are ordering dolls for their daughters, granddaughters, and nieces. So, while you guys have been successful in organizing, know that you have inspired a counter protest to mute the effectiveness of your boycott.

I hope you are able to do that if that is your desire… sadly, many mothers opt to have their unwanted babies murdered, rather than putting them up for adoption… which, as you have been made well aware, the murder of children - is something American Girl proudly supports. Sadly, many black babies are never even given the chance to be adopted. According to the CDC website… black babies are 3 times more likely to be killed in the womb than white babies.

Can you believe that? Half of all black babies are murdered. I hope that statistic makes you as sick to your stomach as it makes me?
Now maybe you are thinking that there are so many older black children that - as you said - “no one’s knocking down the doors to adopt” - it doesn’t matter. I say it does matter. I say even one baby - regardless of his / her race … murdered is too many. Just because they aren’t wanted is no reason to justify their death.

Do you think it’s better for the babies to be murdered in their mother’s wombs - rather than possibly ending up unwanted or neglected? Because although I don’t think any child should be neglected, abused or unwanted - I certainly don’t think that killing them is the best alternative.
I had heard that abortion was originally some sort of evil scheme by racist white people to control the black population. I don’t know if that’s true or not… but when I consider that HALF OF ALL BLACK BABIES are murdered prior to birth… it makes me think that IF that were true… WOW… they certainly were successful.
How terribly tragic. All of those precious lives lost. Doesn’t that make you sad? That one out of two black babies never make it out of their mother’s womb alive? It breaks this white woman’s heart.

There is something seriously SERIOUSLY wrong when so many African American babies are killed before birth. What does that say for the progress of the civil rights movement in America?
One of my closest friends has adopted all three of her children and intentionally adopted racially mixed babies of African American descent. Another is in the process of adopting her second child from China.
I plan to adopt and when I do, I believe that the children I am meant to be a mother to will end up in my arms! Whether that means adopting a child with physical or mental disabilities or a child who is from an ethnic background different from my own. I will not put a qualifier on my child.
How can we expect any group of people to feel accepted and wanted when their* own unborn babies* are deemed not worthy or wanted by our society? I was once looked down upon by a doctor because I was young (20 yrs old) and poor, my husband was an Airman in the Air Force and that doctor treated me like a dog which needed to be spayed before I had a baby and became a leach on the system. He practically yelled at me and told me that I was being irresponsible and was too young to risk having a baby. He didn’t care that I was married or about my religious or moral views. He wanted me to have Norplant. Thankfully, the Gynocologist was kind and sensitive and respected me, and told me honestly the potential complications, and helped me make a better decision.
The fetus is very much like a slave, depending on others to decide whether he or she is worthy of life, or whether they will have a painful death only to be thrown away in medical waste.
Legalized abortion has not solved any of the social problems it was supposed to solve. It hasn’t helped poverty, child neglect and abuse, school dropout rates, racism, or gentetic defects. It hasn’t prevented teenage pregnancy. All it has done is kill millions and millions of innocent Americans from my generation to the present day.
Encouraging a woman to have an abortion does nothing but rob her of her dignity, by telling her that her baby is not worthy of life. There is something seriously wrong with a culture which accepts the killing off of so many in a generation of a particular race. It hasnt’ solved any social problems. All it has done is kill off large numbers of our generation. It’s a silent form of acceptable genocide. How many black babies have died a painful death, mouths open with their silent screams?
The problem with American Girl supporting Girls Inc. is that Girls Inc. targets “at risk” girls, which is great until you investigate their curriculum regarding birth control and abortion. I specifically asked the New York office whether they tell the girls the entire truth, about the development of the baby, the fact that the baby feels pain… that there are many women who regret their abortions, that adoption is an option. She said “no maam we are trying to help these girls we don’t talk about all those negative things.” She also said that they support Planned Parenthood, the leader in the abortion industry. Birth Control does nothing but give people a false sense that they can do whatever they want with no consequences. Abortion is viewed as a backup method of birth control.
Whether there is a counter movement by Pro-Abortionists is beside the point. My intent with this thread, which I began (you can read it from the beginning) was to inform fellow parents so that Pro-life parents are able to make up their own minds about whether they want to support American Girl, and would think twice before buying the “I Can” bracelet and having their girls sign the “promise” Parents deserved to know where their money was going. The boycott arose out of that.
So you can buy the Addy doll if you want, just remember the statisitcs of how many African American babies are killed every year and ask yourself “how far have we really come from slavery?” How loved and wanted are the poor babies, the black babies, the babies with physical or mental disabilities, the simply unwanted babies? How can they possibly deserve death? How many people look at a child with physical impairments and think “Their mother should have had an abortion!”
Before you answer, recall throughout history how many babies born in poverty, in difficult situations, who were knocked down, persecuted, spit on, yet rose up in the midst of desparation to be great leaders, or simply to live their life with dignity and love,…no matter what their race or creed. If you could see, as I have, the strength and will to live in a tiny 24 week old preemie, who beats the odds and survives, you would see what a great injustice abortion is.

The mom who blew the whistle on American Girl and Gir’s Inc. was motivated by an intense belief in human rights and dignity and the desire that women are given better than abortion. I want all Americans to know the truth about abortion, how it has hurt our culture, how it has killed millions of innocent human beings and ruined countless lives of women. The sound bites we get from popular culture do not tell the whole story.
Americans are an amazing group of people, made up of all ethnic backgrounds, races and creeds and we strive to respect others, to protect the rights of all. Unfortunately we tend to ignore the right and dignity of the most vulnerable among us. How can a baby who is born at 20 weeks be given all the love and care available, a baby at 24 weeks can survive with all the medical technology and care available, yet that same baby in the womb can be killed with sharp objects and extraction, pickled by saline or in the case of a late term partial birth abortion, have the feet delivered, only to have a pair of scissors shoved into his or her head… How can whether a human being is wanted or not determine his or her value and worthiness of life?
America has come so far! I have hope that one day we will protect the rights of the unborn just as we have abolished slavery, made laws to protect children from labor and given women and minorities the right to vote.
I have hope that one day people will look back on American history and ask themselves how we could have allowed such a violation of human rights, such a barbaric practice.

I googled “Toys R Us Girls Inc.”. I wanted to be assured that TRU was not aligned with Girls, Inc, because I found some other dolls there- not Mattel, similar to the American Girls Dolls in height and clothes. I really have a bone with those Elsie Dinsmore dolls, having read some of the Elsie Dinsmore books via the Gutenberg Project:

I was taken to a page that lists “power” women who are affiliated with the likes of Sears, Lands End (now a Sears subsidiary), and a woman account executive who did major work for TRU- but not TRU.

So, while I was digging around, I found a list of the Board of Directors for Girls, Inc. Rather than typing it all out- well, that’s time consuming and I might have missed this in another post, where somebody did- I’ll let you see the people on the board of Girls, Inc., and let you decide whether or not it would be a good idea to drop them a note or email to the effect that you are boycotting American Girls, why, and why you don’t think Girls, Inc. has girls best interest at heart:

Francis Burnes (JP Morgan Chase aka BankOne), Lawrence V. Jackson (Walmart), Bridgette Heller (Johnson and Johnson), LeAnn Priebe (Cingular), Carol Tome (Home Depot), and Janice Warne (Citigroup) all are major players on major companies. They should have it pointed out to them the WHY of the American Girl boycott, as should their corporations.
As to comments by others that CAF started the boycott- good grief, we’re just a little piece of it!!! Give a Google and see!!!
