Bobby A. Greene:
How does one stop law enforcement from dealing drugs? How does one stop law students from dealing Coke to pay for law school? How does one stop Judges from accepting cash bribe money from their drug dealing defendants?
Simply by legalizing it!
Is drug dealing in law school our main problem here? Really? And do we really want to make vice so readily available that no one is going to bribe the judges or the police in order to get away with it?

People bribe restaurant inspectors. Solve that! Get rid of health standards in restaurants. The racketeers have been bribing judges since, oh, ancient Greece, probably ancient Babylon. Better make organized crime legal. You do see where you’re going, don’t you? You don’t get back into Eden by convincing God to legalize the fruit of the knowledge of good and evil. Our laws are intended to help protect the public from at least some of the natural consequences of the most dangerous and tempting sins.

You can’t give into despair and then just pretend that you haven’t given in. If you’re failing, look to see how you might improve your chances of success. In the meantime, you’re bound to remain faithful and to do the best you can.

Fair enough. Point taken. My apologies.
No offense taken. What you thought I said did demand correction. I count your willingness to challenge it as a service.

Prohibition and the drug war are NOT the same.

Alcohol has a reasonable and appropriate use. Ask Jesus if you like (see wedding at Cana). Making it illegal due to the abuse of some or even many people deprived the rest of society of an appropriate form of social interaction. So they rebelled by buying it illegally.

No amount of meth or crack use is safe or appropriate. There is NO level of use that is beneficial to human interaction. Thus, laws against its use are appropriate and helpful. Legalizing such hyper-addictive things would be socially suicidal. Hang on a few years and watch what happens when one of the more liberal European countries lets loose altogether on these laws.
