I think both of you need to go back and reread what was actually said. I asked when are the seals opened in chapter 6; before, during or after the tribulation. I said during and these were the cries of those during the tribulation; so please correct me in where I am wrong? I stand firm in the Word.I would LOVE to see MacDaddy try to explain Rev. 6 verses Rev. 7 as you point out.
Thank you for taking care of my light work Fr John.![]()
Thank for for the technical correction, but Protestant church of England I thnk is a bit over the top.you do realize that the execution took place under Henry VIII in 1536, which was three **years **after he had split from the Catholic church??? IOW. Tynedale was executed for heresy under the head of the protestant church of England.
ouch. You probably **didn’t **realize that,
go to the posters profile and look for the drop down menues below the name and one is a selection of “add to ignore list”Where is the 'ignore all posts by this user" button?
I believe this was already dealt with by another poster, possibly Randy. It is through God that Mary hears our prayers and Mary prays to God. It’s not like we pray to Mary and are unheard by God. In Heaven, there is no time. Those in Heaven aren’t under the same constraints are we are. One need not to be divine to hear prayers. If Mary or the saints do not have divine qualities, then why would you pray to them? If you pray out loud and are able to hear you and the other multitudes at the same time, then they must be omnipresent, a divine quality. If you pray in your mind, then they would be omniscient, another divine quality and if you pray silently and ask for something supernatural, then omnipotence would apply, another divine quality.
As I have stated before; I don’t really care if your worship Mary or anything else, that is your business. I do point out when a Catholic denies that it is worship, when the Church clearly states otherwise and I am sure to give the link and put in the context such as dulia is dependent on latria and latria stands alone. In the end, god will judge the intents of the heart and decide if it violates His attributes or not; that is not for me or for you to decide. For me; I proceed with caution because He told me how I am to pray and how the Apostles were to pray.
I hope you understand, I am not criticizing you or others, just pointing to what is actually taught. I hope it is within context as well. I did notice that one of the Catholic posters read the link and on the next post said in fact we worship Mary and other saints but with the qualifier that latria is in ultimate view.
:yup::clapping: Bravo!I believe this was already dealt with by another poster, possibly Randy. It is through God that Mary hears our prayers and Mary prays to God. It’s not like we pray to Mary and are unheard by God. In Heaven, there is no time. Those in Heaven aren’t under the same constraints are we are. One need not to be divine to hear prayers.
Since you know that hyperdulia and dulia are dependent on latria (meaning their prayers are an indirect way to God), then why do you question if seeking Mary’s intercession equates we view her as divine?
If you are referring to this article, it defines worship as homage. We can even see this usage given to Emperors, Kings, Queen, even Star Wars Princess i.e Han saying “Your Worship” to Princess Leia. From what I’ve seen, Protestants have only latria and thus seen any prayers to the saints as such when Catholics make distinctions. Yes, Catholics worship Mary but it would be dishonest to say that we use worship in the same way as Protestants do.
On one hand, you say I can’t judge your hearts and you can decide if your violating God in some way but in your first question you question if we have. What gives?
Like I said, it’s a moot point. Catholics aren’t worshiping Mary in the Protestant sense in the word. Mary isn’t divine or has divine qualities. You’re going to have to debate Catholicism on its own merits, not if what you think are the beliefs.
In a post quite a few pages back (before you started participating in this discussion), the question was asked of Fair Lady if she has ever prayed to God on behalf of living friends, relatives, etc. or asked them to pray for her (intercessory prayer). She answered in the affirmative then gave a whole bunch of nice scriptural quotes to back that up. Good.If Mary or the saints do not have divine qualities, then why would you pray to them? If you pray out loud and are able to hear you and the other multitudes at the same time, then they must be omnipresent, a divine quality. If you pray in your mind, then they would be omniscient, another divine quality and if you pray silently and ask for something supernatural, then omnipotence would apply, another divine quality.
You know who the Albigenses are, right? It makes sense in light of Tantem Ergo’s post. Can you please explain why William Tyndale was murdered and burned at the stake after being imprisoned for a year by the Catholic Church? What was his crime and how does it relate to the OP’s comment? What was the Church doing when they came across these Bibles? Why? I would like to know.
I just came across this in my research:
Council of Toulouse, 1229, Canon 14: “We prohibit the permission of the books of the Old and New Testament to laymen, except perhaps they might desire to have the Psalter, or some Breviary for the divine service, or the Hours of the blessed Virgin Mary, for devotion; ***expressly forbidding their having the other parts of the Bible translated into the vulgar tongue” ***(Pierre Allix, Ecclesiastical History of Ancient Churches of the Albigenses, published in Oxford at the Clarendon Press in 1821, reprinted in USA in 1989 by Church History Research & Archives, P.O. Box 38, Dayton Ohio, 45449, p. 213).
Perhaps you could put this in laymens terms, then apologize to the OP as the Lord leads you.
He may have explained it that way, but that is not what the Church said in the article. If that is the case, the the prayer would be Father in heaven please ask Mary to intercede on our behalf. I have not yet seen a prayer involving Mary that remotely resembles that model.I believe this was already dealt with by another poster, possibly Randy. It is through God that Mary hears our prayers and Mary prays to God. It’s not like we pray to Mary and are unheard by God. In Heaven, there is no time. Can you tell us how you ended up with your Bible? Did the Holy Spirit drop it in your front door? In Acts 8:26-40 The Ethiopian official needed help to understand the Scriptures. He was helped by Philip one of the the Apostles who were commisioned by Jesus to spread the Good News? If you were an atheist and don’t know God and somebody gave you a Bible would you believe it is the word of God immediately? Somebody was first used by the Holy Spirit before you learn about God. Who even told you that the Bible was the word of God? Muslims claim that the Koran is the word of God, the Mormons claim that The Book of Mormons came from God, the Hindus and Budhists believe the same. So why the Bible and not the Koran? Aren’t the first Christians with the help of the Holy Spirit told our forefathers that the Bible is inspired by God. The Bible did not even said which translation to use.S o before quoting the Holy Scriptures, may you please ask yourself are you really representing the will of God or your own convenience of faith? What scripture says about itself (the word of God) is reason enough to look to it as our final authority on matters pertaining to spirituality. Just a few are listed here, followed by my comments, to make that point:
Luke 11:28
But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.
Comment: Where does the word of God come from? God Himself. Where do we find the word of God today? We access what God has said In scripture. There is no other infallible source of God’s word.
Romans 10:17
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Comment: What can be more important to us than for us to gain a faith in God? I can’t think of anything. How do we come by that faith? By hearing the word of God. Where do we go to for what God has said about such matters? Scripture. There is no other infallible source of truth and we depend on it. Jesus said in Matthew 24:35, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” There is no other recorded work that holds a candle to that, but scripture will last for all eternity. Words of scripture come from God Himself. There is no other book like it.
1 Thessalonians 2:13
For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.
Comment: Scripture is not the word of men, but it is the word of God. It is truth and there is no other source of infallible truth like it.
1 John 2:3-5
We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.
Comment: God’s law is written in scripture and has been given to us to teach us right from wrong. Had God left it to man to come up with a book of laws on His behalf, look out - imagination runs wild. We see that in religious systems where they don’t hold striclty to what God deems right or wrong in His sight. Suddenly there is “sin” in areas of no concern to God. The principles and laws of scripture are sufficient to guide us in all things. Above all, God’s standard is laid out clearly and precisely like no other book that man has come up with.

I already have in this thread. It si not hard. The Apostles asked Jesus in what manner should we pray and Jesus answered them with the Lord’s prayer, which is a model of how we ought to pray, and Jesus always prayed to the Father, never to Moses, Issac or any one else but the Father, so we have a clear example from Jesus Himself. Good.
She then went on to say she would NEVER ask those same people to pray on her behalf once they have died (nor would she ever ask angels to do so either). However, after being asked a few times she was never able to give any scriptural evidence to back up that viewpoint. Now that you have stated the same thing a couple times, could you be so kind as to provide scripture references spelling out your viewpoint on this. Thanks.
Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come.Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. The distraction is the technical error using Tyndale, the point remains the same as the original posters said, that in effect the Church withheld the Bible and at one time pronounced a curse on any one possessing one that was not in Latin, which very few laity understood and many others in authority did not understand; this in it effect was holding back the word of God, but in a technical fashion, you could say it is not entirely true. You know who the Albigenses are, right? It makes sense in light of Tantem Ergo’s post.
I went to the store and bought mine and have had the Holy Spirit lead others to sent me a Bible. What about you, how did you get your Bible(s)?Can you tell us how you ended up with your Bible? Really? What I said wasn’t in support the article, which you cited, as Church teaching…He may have explained it that way, but that is not what the Church said in the article. If that is the case, the the prayer would be Father in heaven please ask Mary to intercede on our behalf. I have not yet seen a prayer involving Mary that remotely resembles that model.
I have debated on the merits and some has made not and are now calling it what the church teaches. You cannot deny the use of divine qualities when you pray to Mary or another saint, omniscience and omnipresence are attributes that belong only to God.
Like I said before; it is your business and I am only pointing to that which I have learned and showing you what I have learned and to explain it in a contextual manner and provide the links for the information. Some have agreed.
I’m pretty much done with what I have learned and shared and I’m sure this topic will come along again so as I gain a more and complete understanding to the use of prayer in relation to saints and Mary, statutes and relics I might have more to add later.
God bless and good day.
The word worship (Saxon weorthscipe, “honour”; from worth, meaning “value”, “dignity”, “price”, and the termination, ship; Latin cultus) in its most general sense is homage paid to a person or a thing. In this sense we may speak of hero-worship, worship of the emperor, of demons, of the angels, even of relics, and especially of the Cross. This article will deal with Christian worship according to the following definition: homage paid to God, to Jesus Christ, to His saints, to the beings or even to the objects which have a special relation to God. There are several degrees of this worship:
The fact that the Church makes this distinction shows that Mary isn’t divine, nor is she to be given latria worship. If any person does that, he is guilty of idolatry and that it is the greatest of mortal sins due to violation of the first Commandment. It seems to mean that you are trying to prove that Catholics worship Mary in the latria sense by using Church sources about worship when in fact these sources deny that any latria worship is to be given to Mary.
- if it is addressed directly to God, it is superior, absolute, supreme worship, or worship of adoration, or, according to the consecrated theological term, a worship of latria. This sovereign worship is due to God alone; addressed to a creature it would become idolatry.
- When worship is addressed only indirectly to God, that is, when its object is the veneration of martyrs, of angels, or of saints, it is a subordinate worship dependent on the first, and relative, in so far as it honours the creatures of God for their peculiar relations with Him; it is designated by theologians as the worship of dulia, a term denoting servitude, and implying, when used to signify our worship of distinguished servants of God, that their service to Him is their title to our veneration (cf. Chollet, loc. cit., col. 2407, and Bouquillon, Tractatus de virtute religionis, I, Bruges, 1880, 22 sq.).
- As the Blessed Virgin has a separate and absolutely supereminent rank among the saints, the worship paid to her is called hyperdulia (for the meaning and history of these terms see Suicer, Thesaurus ecclesiasticus, 1728).
Would you want to read a Bible promoted by this heresy? You are aware that Latin began as a vernacular and missals have both latin and any vernacular translation, right? Furthermore, the Church has promoted indulgences for reading the Bible. The Liturgy of the Hours using mostly the Psalms as well as other passages from the Bible. In the Mass, we hear the Liturgy of the Word (which covers both OT and NT) and a Psalm in between. Every Mass the priest consecrates the Host using the same words as Jesus in the last supper…The distraction is the technical error using Tyndale, the point remains the same as the original posters said, that in effect the Church withheld the Bible and at one time pronounced a curse on any one possessing one that was not in Latin, which very few laity understood and many others in authority did not understand; this in it effect was holding back the word of God, but in a technical fashion, you could say it is not entirely true.
That’s exactly what the Church said in the article. He may have explained it that way, but that is not what the Church said in the article.
That’s your problem. You can’t wrap that brain of yours around the fact that God, if He chooses, may allow the human race or even the Angels to have certain qualities of His. You ever hear of free will? How about an eternal Spirit? Maybe we’re under the illusion of having those too huh.If that is the case, the the prayer would be Father in heaven please ask Mary to intercede on our behalf. I have not yet seen a prayer involving Mary that remotely resembles that model.
Only to God? You really think God can’t share this with those in Heaven if He desires to do so? Prove it!You cannot deny the use of divine qualities when you pray to Mary or another saint, omniscience and omnipresence are attributes that belong only to God.
You interpret what the Church teaches as poorly as you do the Bible. But I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised by this. Remove your fallible dogma and see the light.Like I said before; it is your business and I am only pointing to that which I have learned and showing you what I have learned and to explain it in a contextual manner and provide the links for the information. Some have agreed.
You did not answer some part of my question? Why the Bible and not the Koran? You’ll be amazed how God was revered in the Islamic book and the teachings are very attractive.I went to the store and bought mine and have had the Holy Spirit lead others to sent me a Bible. What about you, how did you get your Bible(s)?
Please tell us what the will of God is; I like asking that because few people study his word enough to even know, but He does not hide it. I say that because my hope is you will search the Scripture and find out exactly what His will is. Use keyword surches for “will”, “will of” and “desires” and any similar words you can think of and you will be amazed at what you discover. Have fun at it as well.![]()
Who cares if pagans believed that souls go to heaven at death? What makes you think they are wrong if they teach this? What is wrong about pagan worship is that it is against the First Commandment. We are to worship God, and only God. You are being extremely illogical here. If a pagan religion states, uh, the earth revolves around the sun, then we can’t believe that because it originated in a pagan religion? Please try to make sense. Also, it would really help if you provided references for thoughts and beliefs that you accept, but are not originally your own. As far as your idea that the soul does not enter heaven at death, please read the following Scripture:Yes, she’s asleep and buried. Nobody goes up (ascends) in Heaven but the One who came (descends) from Heaven. The idea that “souls” go to heaven at death originated in pagan religions, not the Bible. Greeks, Babylonians, Egyptians and
other pagan religions had ideas such as these.
Reference, please.Christianity over time “absorbed” religions around her to make the pagans more comfortable with Christianity. When they saw that the (new) Christianity had traditions similar to their past religion, their conversion was easier. In the end they “Christianized” the pagan beliefs and corrupted Christianity with pagan traditions. The Catholic Church says they sanctified the traditions and gave them a “new meaning”.
Reference, please. But God, in the Old Testament, when people brought into the Holy Temple objects originally made for Baal or made for rituals to other gods, even if the priests cleaned them through fire or water (holy water, normal water… irrelevant) and even if they gave those objects a new purpose, God still commanded the destruction of such objects.
Reference, please.Don’t you know that we are the Holy Temple of God? How can you corrupt the Temple of the Eternal God with pagan traditions? It is written that God will destroy anyone who destroys or corrupts His Temple.
We would indeed be corrupting the Temple of God if we entered it with guilt and sin on our souls. Perfection cannot exist with non-perfection. That is one of the problems with sola fide. Our souls must be purified before we can enter Heaven and be with God. I have never said that I can even imagine corrupting Heaven. In fact, I can’t corrupt Heaven because as a sinner, I am not in Heaven. Only because Jesus gave His life for me and was Resurrected can I enter Heaven. God forgives us because He loves us.His Temple is Holy and so should be you: Holy because you are His Temple and because He is holy and do not let anything unclean enter in the Holy Temple of God. I still can’t imagine how somebody could have even think of corrupting It.
Either provide some references (puhleeze) or stop indicating you are privy to Jesus’ thoughts. Sheesh!!Jesus in the parable with Lazarus and the rich man used that wrong idea the Jews absorbed from the Greeks. The idea that the good men immediately after death went in some place [Hades] where there are fountains, trees, etc. (also known as “paradise”) and evil men went to another place dry, lonely, without trees, etc, (aka “Hell”) where they spent their eternity. In the Greek religion people from Paradise and Hell could maintain conversations. The Jews “absorbed” that idea and changed a few details. They called paradise “Abraham’s blossom” and instead of Hell being a dry and lifeless place, they filled it with flames. Jesus used their idea to teach them something else. That something was never that they go to Heaven of Hell right after death; that something was that they can’t love God and money. He didn’t want to contradict them because He wanted to save them, and to know every detail about Heaven and Hell isn’t absolutely necessary for salvation.
For Pete’s sake, Fair Lady, why don’t you answer Kay Cee (and me, by default). None of the Scripture you have provided here says anything about praying to Mary (or the saints, for that matter. But, once again, you add to Scripture. Are you preparing yourself for the plagues you will receive when you add to Scripture (at least according to the website for which you provided the link)? Why do you continue to add to Scripture? Why can’t you see that you are doing this? Look at your comments - please look at them carefully and maybe you will be able to see that you have made some rather broad jumps from what the Scripture passage actually says and what you say it says. In fact, I’ve bolded the parts of your comments where you have added to Scripture. What scripture says about itself (the word of God) is reason enough to look to it as our final authority on matters pertaining to spirituality.
