It’s all about the perceived left leaning of the Holy Father.

That simple.

Well there ya go! Looks like you have the motives all figured out for yourself.

But I am going to disagree.

I think it was about not wanting a pagan idol in the Catholic Church.

I think it was just what the guy who did this said was his motive.

So Mama Mary was adopted as pachamama. Which would make sense given that pacha is seen as the wife of Inti, her son. But my goodness, whoever brought the Good News to the Amazonians must have also shared Theotokos and St. Brigid concepts with them based on the pagan Aug. 1st ritual which is similar to a combination of Theotokos Jan. 1st and Feast of Brid on Feb. 1st.

I have an icon of Mary and baby Jesus and I thought the Pachamama was based on that icon. They look similar.

It’s not.

It’s an idol.

They were offering sacrifice to this phony God.

Drink offerings and food offerings.

Thanks for posting that information @Jerzy. (Here). People have gotta know what’s going on. These “goings on” are very sinful. Jerzy. I didn’t read your post before I went to the original. (Hat tip to you and to @Adamek for positing the above information too which allowed me to even go to the original monograph concerning the Amazonian Synod.) I got this far . . . Preghiera pachamama di questiluoghi bevi de mangia a volunta questa offerta, affinche sia frutosa questa terra. . . . Tra…
This is idolatry.

I’ve seen your posts and I know you are a faithful Catholic (from your posts). You would never offer sacrifice to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Not would I.

Correct. I offer it up to Christ.
But were these the type of ofrendas that Catholic’s leave at the graves of their loved ones for All Saints and All Souls? in Mexico, Central America, and some places in South America, it is not uncommon for the living to have a drink or favorite food with their loved ones who died in the past year. So, I was assuming that is what happened.

That said, I still see an uncanny resemblance between the facial features of pacha and the Black Madonnas. That could be from cultural appropriation though. Kind of like the Cubans who practice Santeria using statues and candles of Catholic saints who are representations of African gods and goddesses. Mother Mary was “Yemaya” and Mama Mary actually appeared to three drifters in a storm and became known as Our lady of Charity of the Cove.

Thanks for sharing Jerzy’s link, btw. I hadn’t seen it. Very interesting.
