Hi Everyone
I am the new kid on the block!
I am an Anglican Deacon who was part of the group which left the Episcopal Church. I belong to the Diocese of the San Joaquin located in the San Joaquin Valley of California.
Under the leadership of our Bishop we were the first Diocese to leave and we are one of the formative Dioceses of The Anglican Church of Naorth America

On the discusion about Anglicans being Catholics I believe that the ultimate goal of our two churches should be to become one church under the See of Rome.
One of the current problems with the Anglican Communion is that the Archbishop of Canterbury has no authority! He cannot put a stop to the liberal Episcopal Church sins. They have all but denonced Jesus Christ. The has been a cancer in the church slowly eating away at the foundations of Christianity
My worry is the people who are true to Christianity who are in the pews of the Epsicopal Church who have been silent do not know that they are losing their church.
God save us all!

Hi Huntdopey, I hate to be negative in reply to your first post but we are not ‘two churches’. The Catholic Church is The Church, the Anglican founders left the Church and became a ‘protestant episcopal denomination’ whose orders are regarded as ‘null and void’ by The Church Christ founded.
The inevitably lamentable results of that original movement away from the authority of the Church have been apparent for centuries but are more and more defined in recent years.
It is heartening to see that some Anglicans reject the more extreme novelties recently introduced but this situation was inevitable. However the formation of further new Anglican ‘churches’ does not solve the problem of disunity but accentuates it.
The Pope’s offer of the ordinariate in response to the several requests of those who wish to retain some Anglican identity whilst coming into communion with The Church is a way back to the truth for Anglicans of your ‘stamp’ and should, in my view, be gratefully accepted.
Could I recommend this link?

Greetings, hunt,

I’m also in San Joaquin at St. Paul’s, Visalia. Welcome to CAF! Anglicans could use a good poster around here 😛

Let the “you’re not really Catholic!” and “you’re pretending to be Catholic” and “invalid orders” and confusion between Episcopal and Conservative Anglican as well as Henry VIII references begin…🤷😦

Welcome Hunt! I too pray for a full union of Anglican and Catholic churches. Sorry your very first reply on this board was less than charitable and loving.

I’m an adult convert to Roman Catholicism from pretty much no faith at all. Not for marriage or anything like that, just a complete knock upside my head by the Holy Spirit.

I’m very excited about having some Anglicans, including whole parishes, joining the Catholic Church (sorry, I know calling us Catholic and you not Catholic grates on some of you folks who think Anglican is a sort of Catholic with a big C, but some of the Catholics don’t like emphasis on ROMAN Catholic… it is all so confusing, yes?)

So anyway… WELCOME!!!🙂

Thomas; you are an ordained member of the Clergy - you are responsible for guiding people to the Truth of Christ. If you see that the Truth of Christ is under the See of Rome; with the utmost charity - what are you waiting for?

👍

Excellent point, JohnD! I’m ashamed of my manners!

Hunt, it is most likely premature and all, but may I be one of the first to invite you to explore the Catholic faith by contacting the nearest RCIA class? No obligation! Free! Informative! (Yeah, I should be selling chopping tools at the county fair, huh?)

Anyhow, you can attend RCIA sessions and decide for yourself with no pressure whatsoever. Lots of information and discussion, and they’ll answer all your questions about the Catholic faith. But if you aren’t ready, we are here too. My knowledge is not nearly as great as more senior members, but I have the experience of a convert and 2 years of RCIA.

Blessings to you!

Despite my own struggles with Catholicism that have kept me from reverting all the way and going back, I agree with the Catholics’ statements in here. Hunt should explore conversion to the Catholic Church via RCIA. They are right.

San Joaquin is NOT going to take on the Ordinariate offers of the Holy See. It ISN’T going to happen. Ask the parishoners at every church, the bishop, the rectors, vestries, isn’t going to happen. They aren’t even a little interested. If Hunt thinks Catholicism is the ticket to unity and where he belongs, I hope he’ll consider it…

Sorry your very first reply on this board was less than charitable and loving.
Kind of you to apologise on my behalf. Thanks!
If you read the link I gave our friend you will find a possibly more diplomatic but no less Catholic position explained in full by a Beato of The Church and one who died in the cause of conversion of the Anglicans.
I too rejoice in the possibility of groups of Anglicans joining The Church but it does no-one favours to deny what The Church teaches about their current situation.

You are welcome, though I wasn’t apologizing for you, I was apologizing on behalf of the faith. I, too, wish for everyone to join the in our communion. But I have learned in my many years, that “sorry but you are wrong and here’s some links” is just not a real turn on. They will know us by our love, right?

A “welcome, we are so glad to have you among us, let’s talk” is more likely to open a heart to the Holy Spirit. Most of us pass by 90% of the links we come across. Hard to turn down a loving hug, though.

Just saying. Hey, I’m not apologist. I’m just a Jewish convert with a special needs kid, stuck at home with a desire to reach out and share some of the LOVE I found in this here Church.

I agree with your first para and conclusion. And say so often.

I wish more had your sentiment, sojo! But dude, don’t reveal all your tricks so loudly! LOL 😃 Loose lips sink ships! ;)😛

Hi Friend, OK - you be the ‘good cop’ and I’ll be myself - we could be a good team!
God Bless
(Do take a look at that link though - it’s brilliant as was its author the wonderful Dominic Barberi who is, no doubt at all, praying for our friend and all like him).

Praise God! And, welcome to the forums. The suffering and disenchantment of faithful Episcopalians is terrible. There is apparently work in progress to allow Canadian Anglicans into full communion. With the heartwarming news from England regarding the Anglican Rite, we can only hope and pray for unity. Notice that, as the world deteriorates, the Church is being re-constituted. Come, O Holy Spirit!

Rather, let the denial of self, the taking up of one’s cross, and the following of Jesus together begin, huh? Let us pray to the Father that we be one, like He, His Son and the Spirit are One.

Well, I could ask you what other Church offers the faintest glimmer of hope for worldwide Christian unity. A very short list, indeed.

I’m a Yorkshireman. We are the English version of ‘New Yorkers’. We don’t just ‘call a spade a spade’,we hit you on the head with the spade several times as well to ensure that your REALLY understand what a spade is.

Yorkshire gave many martyrs in the cause of Catholicism (unsuprisingly as we don’t find compromise easy). Don’t anyone tell me that they died in vain and could have just joined the ‘new church’ without all that messy disembowelling.

Actually I’d say he’s Catholic, just not Roman. 😉
