Batgirl signs with the quote that “Animals Are Food.” I wonder if she is being facetious or if she is making a point. I also wonder how everyone else feels about animals being on earth merely as part of the food chain.

We are stewards of creation. Sometimes people are callous toward animals and this saddens me. Yes, animals may be used for food and sustinence, but to look upon animals as mere objects over which we have been given full reign to abuse is not right.

While I enjoy steak and chicken and pork and fish, I do not believe in deliberately mistreating animals. I, for one, don’t make it a point to aim for that little squirrel that is crossing the road.

Why did the squirrel cross the road? :rotfl:

I agree with this opinion and would add:

God gave us the animals. He gave us dominion over them and all creation and it is our duty to treat them with respect. Do you realize that the first animal killed in the Bible was when the Lord “made garments of skins” to cover Adam and Eve?

As a Catholic, a hunter and a horseman I try to cultivate my spirituality and my faith through my daily interaction with creation. We eat whatever we hunt. We are not rich and the extra food helps us in life. Whenever we shoot an animal I say a prayer over it thanking God for his gifts to us.
Likewise - all Christians should pray over their meals thanking God for the cattle, chickens, pigs, fish, and wheat.

Personally, I choose not to eat animals in the US. It’s not the entire food chain concept that I take issue with per se, and I don’t try to convert meat eaters, but I loath the commerical farming industires standard of treating animals here. The way they are fed garbage and mutilated many times while in captivity, and slaughtered when they are not able to stand. I live in a state with many chicekn farms and pig farms and the stench coming from thsoe places easily dissuades me from contributing to it. Or many times seeing the trucks jam packed with the hopelss creature on their way to slaughter, and feathers flying all over the road form outside the cages.

Ocassionally I have difficulties craving meat (some times a day or two during my period, and I need more protein), then I try to eat something grown organically that has had a better life before it became dinner. I don’t think that hunting is inhumane, when the animal is used afterwards. Wanton killing though is offensive to me.

It’s not only my concern for the animals that keepe me away form eating them, but also conern for myself. It is not helthy to eat animals that are badly treated and ingest their stress horomones their muscles accumulated during their lives, to say nothing of the drugs and junk food they were given while alive. I have enough problems trying not to gain weight and do not need to be injesting food that has beent reated with products that prmote weight gain.

Maybe I should specify land animals, because aquariums make me hungry.

Acts 10:
9About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. 10He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. 11He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. 12It contained all kinds of fourfooted animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air. 13Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.”
Animals are food because God says they are.

“Vegetables ain’t food. Vegetables is what food eats.”

“BEEF - It’s why space aliens steal our cows.”

I have absolutely no problem being the ultimate apex predator.

I once had a fundie tell me, “God created animals to eat.” To which I replied, "Uh, no. Gen.9:3 reads, “Every creature that is alive shall be yours to eat. I give them all to you as I did the green plants.” (NAB) This, of course, being after the great flood, showing that man did not eat animals up till that time.
So, though animals may be food now, apparently, they were not always.
Just my :twocents:

Of corse he created them for us to eat!

He made them out of meat didn’t he?

Yikes! I’m staying the HECK out of Missouri!

I stick to limit species of animals as food.

I’m an animal right activist. I strongly oppose my fellow countrymen’s logic of eating everthing to extinction.

*First off, this thread was about eating animals, not how we treat them, so PETA oriented comments aren’t relavent. **

**What country do you live in? Here in the USA where I live, the majority of meat comes from “farms” where we “grow” our meat, so as not to run out 😃 . **

Remember folks, There’s room on this earth for all animals…right next to the mashed potatoes.

Some vegitarians think they are more Christian than Christ.

**NAB LUKE 24:**37
But they were startled and terrified and thought that they were seeing a ghost. Then he said to them, “Why are you troubled? And why do questions arise in your hearts? Look at my hands and my feet, that it is I myself. Touch me and see, because a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have.” And as he said this, he showed them his hands and his feet. While they were still incredulous for joy and were amazed, **he asked them, “Have you anything here to eat?” They gave him a piece of baked fish; he took it and ate it in front of them.

Peace in Christ,
Steven Merten
