Too much junk food I will accept. But who and by what standard do you claim Americans eat too much meat? And how do you know how much meat Christ ate? Seems you are making some very serious unfounded assumptions. Please cite sources for your assertions.
CHECK OUT THE STANDARD AMERICAN DIET SAD

There is a good article on Jesus’ diet on the BBC News channel. Entitled:** Americans look to Jesus for diet **

Jesus’ diet was in accordance with the times in which he lived. He ate very little meat, maybe once a month. Meat was reserved for special occassions–it was not a daily dietary staple.

And of course meat was not raised or treated as it is today under our mass scale factory conditions. Meat has only become a staple of the modern diet with the advent of the technology of refrigeration, developed in our period of INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION.

Meat as it is consumed today did not exist in Jesus’ time. (They killed the fatted calf or the lamb for special occassions only–if they could afford to do so.) He probably didn’t even have a PICK N’ SAVE, and was not familiar with the golden arches.

Just curious, anyone know what the average life span was 2k years ago?

Peta has done some very stupid stuff. They want ice cream makers to use human breast milk. That’s just one of the stupid things they have asked for. I personally dont care for Oprah, honest and fair maybe…if she wants to be. It’s her show. But I am against puppy mills, so I’m careful where I get my dogs.

Hmm, not sure about unusable parts of a cow being put in donuts. A little too far fetched for me to believe. I do know that a lot of unusable, but not unetible animal parts end up in dog food factories. As a matter of fact there is a place in California, the meat is so clean it could be cooked and eaten by humans. But like I said, it’s the part humans dont usually eat. Not in America anyway.

yellowbird–you said that the costs of all this good healthy food is high–but it is all based on supply and demand. When we consumers stop buying the garbage–they will stop making it. When we start buying the good healthy food–they will have to make more and the cost will go down.
Umm…last I checked if demand was high, and supply is hard to reproduce…cost will go up.

RICK: You are very opinionated but if you should check out some facts before you draw the final conclusions. Name your product and I will tell you what’s in it. Or better yet you can research it yourself! That way you can trust the information. Any product that contains **white refined sugar **is made with bone char–the charred bones from slaughterhouses. (White refined table sugar is a lot more than a derivitive of sugar cane. It’s a lot less too–all the nutrients are zapped out.) Bone char is also used to clarify certain beverages like beer and some wines. Fish bladders are also used to clarify wines and beers. Yum! And you must know what hot dogs are made from! There’s a great video on You Tube about hot dogs. I’ll find out the name. It was made by a nutritionist.

This is not accurate. It is PETA lies. God is NOT the LIAR you claim He is. These are NOT the Pro Life issues you originally, and falsely, claimed they afre. Thjis is utter garbage. These are are radical pagan attitudes. There is nothing Christian about this. Take your pagan beliefs elsewhere.

I don’t know but it probably wasn’t long–poor medical, no vaccines, disease, plague, poor medical information/facilities…

I do know that our current life span is declining because of our diet. The next generation of young people are expected to have even shorter lives than their parents because of obesity and diet related disease.

St John the Apostle lived to be more than 90. That was in the first century AD. Several saints lived to be more than 90 and a few ore than 100.

It is clear, Marfan, that you are NOT pro-life, in the Catholic sense, but rather in some sort of New Age (heretical) sense.

rpp: You are a radical nut!!! This info on Jesus’ diet is from the BBC news channel. How is information on what Jesus ate in his time on this earth a pagan idea? Jesus did not eat the amount of meat that you do, and he did not visit the golden arches. He also did not own a refrigerator! This is a pagan idea? What are you smoking?

It is against forum rules to call people names nor is it permissible to insult other members… The BBC is a very anti-Catholic source of information. I think you would be happier in a forum that is less concerned with Truth.

You will not be permitted to rejoin the Pro Life group you were ejected from as you are not only not pro-life but promote pagan beliefs and cannot post without insulting other members.

rpp: Wow! He lived to be 90 in such a precarious age! Fantastic! I heard that he lived to be 104 though. Who knows! Maybe he lived so long because he didn’t eat doughnuts and ding dongs. rrp: you are a firey, fired up nut! I like nuts. Nuts make the world go 'round. Glad to meet you! I am going to bed now. Have a great night1

I didn’t realize that the Brittish Broadcasting News Corp was anti-Catholic. I have Catholic friends that live in England–I will have to ask them if this is true. I thought it was a news organization. It doesn’t matter–Jesus ate the diet of his times–the times in which he lived. I will get more info for you tomorrow. I am going to bed now. You can look things up too you know.

I didn’t call anyone (you) any names–you nut!! That’s a term of endearment!!! You are really fun and fiesty!! I like that!!!

I didn’t insult anyone. I do wonder if you are insulting me by calling me pagan. I don’t get where that is coming from. I am pro-life. All of life. I even like you!!!
P.S. I notice that you are kind of following me around. The feeling is mutual! You are so much fun!! I do like you!!!

According to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_expectancy, which derived this data from Encyclopaedia Britannica and other sources, the average human life expectancy in classical Rome at birth was 20-30 years.
Leopard: You are so smart!! I think I like you better than rpp!! Don’t tell him I said that!!! So how did these saints live so long???

Oh no!! You got your info from Encyclopaedia Britannica!!! rrp says that the BBC is anti-Catholic–so Encyclopaedia Britannica could be anti-Catholic too??? OK, I’m just kidding around–I am too tired. I have to go to bed. Smiles to you and my friend rpp!!!

STANDARD AMERICAN DIET (SAD) It’s called SAD for a reason!!!

You can find this information ANYWHERE!!! Type SAD STANDARD AMERICAN DIET INTO YOUR BROWSER

If you were to list the factors that increase the risk of cancer, heart disease, stroke, intestinal disorders ? just about any illness ? the standard American diet has them all:

High in animal fats
High in unhealthy fats: saturated, hydrogenated
Low in fiber
High in processed foods
Low in complex carbohydrates
Low in plant-based foods
The striking fact is that cultures that eat the reverse of the standard American diet ? low fat, high in complex carbohydrates, plant-based, and high in fiber ? have a lower incidence of cancer and coronary artery disease (CAD). What’s even more sad is that countries whose populations can afford to eat the healthiest disease-preventing foods don’t. The United States has spent more money on cancer research than any country in the world, yet the American diet contributes to the very diseases we are spending money to prevent.
I am extremely opionated, I take pride in it. Why let facts get in the way of a good argument. This SAD that you speak of claims that the average person eats 25 oz. of meat per day. That is where I stopped reading.

I read an article(which you could probably google it and find it) not too long ago about a man who lived to be I think it was 96 years old. His doctors had told him since he was 40 that he needed to stop eating all the junk food and meat, which I think it listed hot dogs specifically. When he died, it was listed as natural causes. This old man donated his body to science, it was autopsied and examined. What the doctors found out stunned them. After all the years of eating this junk food, this man had the internals of a 40 year old. Amazing huh?

Now, that being said. I expect to live to be between the ages of 85 to 90. Now, if I die at 55 and the coroner said well, he died of heart attack. Must have been all that bad food, right? Wrong, God was ready for me and he brought me home. And I’m gonna die with a hamburger in my hand or in my stomach I can gaurantee you that. And you know what else…I will not have wasted my life worrying about what I ate. Either God will nourish my body with it or he wont, but he will be the ultimate determination of when I go home.

Now, what I suggest is that you stop worrying about facts. They tend to change depending on who you ask. BTW, BBC = British = Socialist. So goes Oprah, Obama and the rest of our government. Ask them, and the world is ending. (Gore)

Leopard: You are so smart!! I think I like you better than rpp!! Don’t tell him I said that!!! So how did these saints live so long???..
Because they were among the very few at the far right end of the bell curve. In the middle were the majority who only reached the average lifespan, and to the left of them were those who died as children or infants. Undoubtedly a much higher percentage than those who lived to get their senior citizen discounts.

I think there are legitimate reasons to be disturbed by modern methods of factory farming. But you can avoid those problems by buying your meat directly from a farmer and letting a meat locker do the processing. This allows you to check out how the animal is raised to ease any ethical qualms. Of course, you’ll probably want to have deep freeze and you may want to partner up with a couple other families to divide the meat, since a single cow will yield a lot of food. 🙂

This is easier to do if you live near a rural area, but with a bit of research and travel I think it is do-able just about anywhere.
**redgecko **I love your name!!! Don’t tell yellowbird that I said that! I love her name too! Oh, I love both of your names!

There is a whole foods about 30 minutes from where I live… I will check it out. I also love Silk Soy Vanilla milk! My kids like dairy milk though so I buy organic, non-hormone. As I said, I’m most concerned with additives/hormones in our food.

I’ve never heard of plums in place of eggs? That sounds interesting. Who would’ve thought?!

I agree that the average American diet is very unhealthy. We have obese children who are developing not only diabeties but also kidney stones - something that was previously only seen in adults. I just read about it in the newspaper. I think people should, for their own health and the health of their children make better choices when it comes to food. If that includes considering meat options from animals that have been humanely treated, that is certainly an option and something I would support if the meat was additive/hormone free. It’s unfortuntate that eating healthy costs so much though… cheap meat & processed food is less costly and easy so if a family with two working parents don’t have the time or can’t afford healthy food, I’m not going to fault them for that.

I think information is good… but it has to be honest information or people ARE going to be dismissive and disregard everything that is said. I think PETA purposly distorts the truth because they believe so strongly in their cause. They are willing to say anything to get people to change. That is wrong. It also makes me  to know that they care more about animals than unborn people. But I’ve already gone on & on about that…

At any rate, God bless you! 🙂

yellowbird–I use a FAT and EGG SUBSTITUTE called Wonderslim. I will get more information for you if you like. I buy it at my local co-op. I don’t know if WHOLE FOODS carries it, but you can ask them to get it for you. It costs something like $7.00 and goes a long way. It comes in a 16 oz jar. It is made from plums and oat bran. It is manufactured by Marin Food Specialties, Inc. in California. I use 2 tablespoons to replace each egg in baking. I make GREAT cookies with it! I also add a little ground flax and rice bran to my cookies to increase the nutritional punch!!! I do not use butter in my cookies. I use EARTH BALANCE or WILLOW RUN margarine–they are the best!!!
