Marfran;5007016 I use EARTH BALANCE or WILLOW RUN margarine–they are the best!!! [/QUOTE said:Heard that margarine was bad for you. The molecular structure I think is similar to plastic. I use real butter for everything - fry up my eggs in it, bake with it, and butter my bread with it.I do not use butter in my cookies. I use EARTH BALANCE or WILLOW RUN margarine–they are the best!!!
Then you should stick to that reason in arguing. Your reason for eating meat, then, is not because non-human animals eat each other without care, but because God does not reprimand you for it. You’re coming up with reasons after your decision, which is quite dishonest. And I chose to eat the meat.
What’s wrong with that? My authority on right vs. wrong is my Church who gets it’s authority from God. Since my Church hasn’t said that eating meat is wrong, why should I believe it is?
How is that dishonest? That’s a little harsh to call someone dishonest because they decide to do something so petty as eating meat then providing a reason as to why they should or should not do it.Then you should stick to that reason in arguing. Catholic90: I agree!!! Margarine is yuck!!! I don’t use those gross margarines either!!! I use EARTH BALANCE. We have lost some dear family members (way before their time) to heart disease. The doctors insist that the animal fats must be reduced or elimminated from our diets, as we are genetically pre-disposed to heart disease. It must be great to know that you have a good ticker and don’t need to worry about what you eat!!! For anyone else out there who, like my family, has concerns about heart disease and would like to reduce the trans fats, hydrogenated oils and cholesterol, try EARTH BALANCE. It tastes great!! If you do try it let me know if you like it–or if you have found something better. Does anyone else have heart disease out there and are trying to change to a healthier diet? I would love to hear from you!I use real butter for everything - fry up my eggs in it, bake with it, and butter my bread with it.
NOTHING beats real butter for flavor, texture, and edibility!
Margarine is like plastic - yuck. It is not real food.
Butter is heavenly - Mmmmmmm, good! and tasty too!![]()
EARTH BALANCE is quite different than most margarines. I am not sure if you can even call it a margarine. It is made from an expeller-pressed natural oil blend:soybean, olive etc. The lactic acid in it is derived from sugar beets, not dairy. It doesn’t contain the chemicals and preservatives found in other margarines and butter.Heard that margarine was bad for you. The molecular structure I think is similar to plastic. I read something about it that if you stuck it outside in the heat, no insects will touch it and no mold would grow on it.
Oreoracle I like you. What does your name mean? Don’t pick on yellowbird! She is really a nice bird! Then you should stick to that reason in arguing. You are committing the error of post hoc, ergo propter hoc. Yellowbird said two separate things:yellowbird:![]()

Oreoracle* was *harsh to yellowbird, yes–I agree with you **bbarrick **my friend. He/she (I want to get this right because so many of you thought I was a man–I’m a butterfly more accurately). How is that dishonest? Sometimes we do things without no need to provide reason until someone asks, that’s being dishonest?
I have no idea WHAT you are talking about. I never said a word about non-human animals eating each other? Where’d you come up with that? Then you should stick to that reason in arguing. Oreoracle is new–let’s give him/her a break. Leopard can we all start fresh somewhere? I made some errors myself. Maybe I chose the the wrong video to use as a back drop for discussion. I have some new postings on my wall. I would like to start a new discussion but I am not sure how to do this. I am not even sure how this one got going. Did I post the question in the Catholic Answers forum? I am really green. You are committing the error of post hoc, ergo propter hoc. Yellowbird said two separate things:
There is no indication that this person chose an action without moral consideration, and only afterward looked for reasons to justify his or her decision. Your accusation of dishonesty, therefore, is unwarranted and I think you owe him or her an apology.
- That he or she chooses to eat meat, and
- That the Church does not say that eating meat is wrong.
yellowbird, my favorite bird. Things are spinning all over the place here.I have no idea WHAT you are talking about. I never said a word about non-human animals eating each other? Where’d you come up with that?
I said that IF eating meat were wrong, as some have suggested, the Church, who is my authority on morality, would’ve said so. Since the Church hasn’t said it’s wrong, there is no reason, morally speaking, for me to change my ways. If I choose to do so for health reasons, so be it… but again, it’s personal choice and NOT a good vs. evil sort of thing.
How am I being quite dishonest? Do tell.
Oh, sorry; that was someone else. Carry on.I have no idea WHAT you are talking about. I never said a word about non-human animals eating each other? Where’d you come up with that?

samcarter thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut!!! I had 5 babies without this problem, so I do not know what to say. This discussion was not intended to be a discussion about eating or not eating meat–it was intended to be about the atrocities that occur in the agribusiness industry. The treatment and abuse of animals–and is that OK or not. You can choose to eat meat–or not–but in choosing to eat it do you have any responsibility toward the suffering/conditions in which they are raised/killed.Well, this is an interesting discussion.
All I know is this. I was vegetarian from age 14-25. I still ate cheese and eggs. After that, I became a vegan, out of compassion for those poor cows and chickens.
I had three babies within 7 years, still remaining vegetarian (once in a while eating eggs and cheese when pregnant) and my third was born with a severe carnitine deficiency. Carnitine is a substance that is essential for the metabolization of fats for energy. If you don’t have it, and go for a few hours without eating, you can get very ill and even die. My son went on a supplement, while the doctors tried to figure out if he had a genetic disease that could cause this. They tested my carnitine levels and they were nearly ZERO. With levels that low you can risk heart malfunction (the heart relies on energy from fatty acids) and again, death.
It was determined that my years of vegetarianism had left me with a depleted store of carnitine. And when you’re pregnant, you need more carnitine to give your baby, and if you don’t have it, the baby doesn’t get it. I couldn’t even breastfeed my baby because i had no carnitine in my breastmilk—but commercial formula has it added in.
Guess where the human body gets carnitine? From meat. Or we synthesize it from lysine, which is found mainly in meats and eggs. Hmmm…a substance necessary for human survival, found largely in meat. The only vegetable to have any significant level of carnitine in it is the avocado.
My doctor has basically told me that those years of vegetarianism were damaging to my body. If i get pregnant again, not only do I need to make sure I eat MEAT, but I have to take carnitine supplements as well. And my son needs to eat meat as well, I can’t put him on a vegetarian diet any time soon.
I am also, as it turns out, intolerant to wheat and dairy, so if i didn’t eat meat and eggs, I would be noshing on salads and veggies and fruit, maybe fish.
A vegetarian diet can be healthy…but I am no longer certain that it is the optimal diet for most human beings. I appreciate animals very much, but I lean towards humans being a smidge more important than animals.
Apology accepted.Oh, sorry; that was someone else. Carry on.
Not as important as keeping my bloodsugar up. The only thing I find effective for that is animal protein. Keeping my hypoglycemia at bay in an easy is a bit more important.samcarter thanks for your (name removed by moderator)ut!!! I had 5 babies without this problem, so I do not know what to say. Can we treat these animals humanely? Is their suffering irrelevant? Is it wrong to look the other way, and pretend it is not happening. Are we guilty by association–guilty if we eat products that we do not know the history of? What would Chirst or God or St. Francis say if they were present at the *egg factory *as they were searing off the beaks of live chickens with a hot gun, and stuffing them 10+ into a tiny cage.
Does God care? Should we care?
Sorry, not going to watch it. Just like I can’t watch animals killing other animals on National Geographic. It’s not the eathing of animals that is wrong…it’s the inhumane way that the whole process is handled from being raised to slaughtered. I’m for some definite changes there. Please view the *You Tube *video *Animals You Eat: Bad Meat! *and explain to me how Catholics can be a part of this. This planet and all creatures in it are gifts from God. When we abuse animals, when we partake in pollution, when we degrade the planet/environment, we disrespect God. My Catholic Church speaks of Respect for Life–but we must respect ALL of life, ALL of God’s gifts, ALL of God’s creation. Catholics must stand up for the Repect of ALL of life, ALL that God has created–we are the STEWARDS of the planet. Watch this video and you will not feel like a steward–you will feel the tarnish, you will feel God’s disapproval.
