I care about animals so much that I think we should give them underpants.

Squirrel Underpants

by edwin on January 14, 2009

We don’t think anyone in the animal kingdom needs underpants, unless you’re employed by Disney. Still, even Donald Duck decided to go commando for all and sundry to see. The Squirrel Underpants is another pointless gag gift for $5.95, and they come in 3″ waist sizes, made out of 100% cotton. Not only squirrels can wear them but hamsters, frogs and gerbils as well, although we suspect that hamsters will probably chew through it first.

good for youand this contributes to the threads content about factory farms,…how?
It doesn’t at all! 8D
I am just simply proclaiming how my tongue reacts to plain vegetables. Which is…

“BLAARRRGGGHH!!! XP”

Oh come on Ed! When you put it that way it almost sounds as if you are morally superior to us! But, the truth be known, we have more on our plate than you do, Because we care not only about the unborn, but the humane treatment of animals and global warming and diseases from factory farms and all that stuff.
Being Vegan and pro life makes us a very unique niche!👍
But, hey! Thanks for preaching at us!
**Right on brother!!! **I have it ALL on MY plate!!! Eddie: Your plate is too small–you can fit a few more things on it.

it makes sense then, that a good catholic would also forgo caring about what kind of beer they’ll buy or what time their favorite tv show is coming on, playing computer games or whatever… because those things should not be placed above the unborn either.

don’t you think you should be spreading that message to other people and not just us? or is it only the vegetarians who have to spend every waking moment talking about the unborn?
Right on sister!!!

Everybody loves a comedian!!! Love you brother!!!

With all due respect, if one is going to get as passionate about an issue as I see some folks getting on this thread, I think it’s far more appropriate for that issue to be abortion, don’t you?

That said:
2417 God entrusted animals to the stewardship of those whom he created in his own image.198 Hence it is legitimate to use animals for food and clothing. They may be domesticated to help man in his work and leisure. **Medical and scientific experimentation on animals is a morally acceptable practice if it remains within reasonable limits and contributes to caring for or saving human **lives.
2418 It is contrary to human dignity to cause animals to suffer or die needlessly. **It is likewise unworthy to spend money on them that should as a priority go to the relief of human **misery. One can love animals; one should not direct to them the affection due only to persons.
from the Catechism (emphasis mine)

Dante

PS: forgive me if the above CCC quotes have already been introduced.

False dilemma: One does not preclude the other. Being Catholic means that one can be passionate about a number of things, from abortion to cruelty to animals to felt banners in church.

Oh, and for the record, I am neither vegan nor vegetarian. But this thread is about what it is about.

so… your suggestion is that abortion is the ONLY thing that we should be passionate about?

So every other fourm on CAF should then be shut down, now more discussions about anything else?

Thank you so much getting it 👍… is there a forum on the felt banners, I might weigh in on that! Peace,

Good Catholics are much more concerned with the wanton slaughter of the unborn than the so called rights of animals.

Placing animals ahead of the slaughter of the unborn is in and of itself a form of idolatry.

I’ve posted similar comments before, but it seems there is always a need to reiterate an argument in different ways, to reach the maximum number of people.

I think most people - even perhaps most Catholics - allow themselves to be concerned with several different issues at the same time. Considering the plight of factory-farmed animals does not preclude considering abortion to be an important issue, nor vice versa. These are different issues, unless you are prepared to consider humans and other animals collectively as sentient life. If not, then you are comparing apples with oranges and your argument is invalidated.

Be that as it may, there are many human-centred reasons, as well as animal-centred ones, for choosing a vegetarian or vegan diet, or even a low-meat diet, over the standard Western diet which tends to consume meat at every meal.

Vegetarianism is what you make it. It doesn’t have to be a sacrifice, but if it helps to consider it that way, more power to you. To me, vegetarianism has provided inspiration to be more creative with cooking, and to really appreciate fresh, organic produce. What it all comes down to, for me, is that respecting the sources of our food is vital to helping us appreciate what we are, and what our place is in the vast scheme of life on earth.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll go on saying it - balance is key.

We make Chinese food with tofu, and I’ve learned a so much about vegan cooking from my Chinese friends who have taught me about ‘wheat meat’ — made with wheat gluten - so, I am sure you can learn too!

I am not really sure why you are posting on this forum (and in such a confusing 🤷 way) the point of this was to discuss the way animals are raised for food, perhaps you didn’t understand that. I would suggest you go back to the original post and watch the video - if you have something to contribute based upon that please do.
