I’m having two anime-related crises here.

1st: Running out of space for my anime DVDs
2nd: Running out of space for my anime CDs
Oh, that’s easily solvable!

Just give 'em to me! 😃 I’ll take good care of them for u, lol!

Correct. AFAIK much stuff (aside from the tracing) is done by computer nowadays. AFAIK most studios stopped switched from cel animation to digital around the early 2000s. In fact, Sazae-san is the only show I know of which still (mostly) uses cel animation - and even that uses digital for the opening and closing credits.
An update: Sazae-san will fully switch to digital animation this Sunday - which will finally end the age of cel animation in Japan.

LOL, that does sound like a problem.

I am having an anime crisis of a completely different nature. I have started watching these one season anime shows and they are starting to drive me up the wall, because I want there to be more seasons but there are not. Arg! I recently watched Ghost Hunt, Fairy Tail, and Chrome Shelled Regios, and they all feel like they need more to the story. (Fairy Tail does have a second season but I can’t watch it for free yet). I really enjoyed Ghost Hunt, it was great, but I wanted to get to know the characters more and see their interactions as they got to know each other better (Like learning that Mai was an orphan, and Naru was actually a “spiritualist”). Sigh, but it is not to be.

Note: I also watched Hero Tales, which I enjoyed, but I felt like it wrapped up at the end and I had gotten everything out of that anime that it had to give. I also tried watching My Bride is a Mermaid, and got through maybe 5 episodes before I had to give it up. Maybe I will try again if I am ever feeling the need to watch something completely frivolous.

I’ve seen several episodes of Regios back before I quit watching fansubs. Finally bought the DVDs a few days ago. Really enjoyed what I’ve already seen, so I’m hoping the full series is just as awesome.

I also decided to give Funimation’s SAVE line a try and picked up Sands of Destruction. I haven’t seen any of it, but at $20 and some good looking art and decent write-ups, I decided to make the jump.

Anyways, it’s new anime season time! My Fall shows, pending licensing in the US (many of which already have been):

–Golden Time
–BlazBlue
–Kyokai no Kanata (Beyond the Boundary)
–Kyousogiga
–Gingitsune
–Samurai Flamenco
–Gallilei Donna
–Infinite Stratos
–Outbreak Company
–Walkure Romanze
–Strike the Blood
–Tokyo Ravens
–Kill La Kill

And the shorts Teekyu and Miss Monochrome.

Well, finally finished up all 9 of the summer shows I was watching. For me, there were 3 stand-outs: AoT, TWGOK & Sunday W/out God. For TWGOK, they really need to make a VN out of this series so that I can get my Keima and Haqua ending! 😃 Although, there’s a lot of really cute potential pairings with the main male character that I’d love to see that it’s ridiculous! As for Sunday W/out God, this one was quite the emotional series, and the ending for it was such a tear-jerker (I lost a lot of fluid! :D), it really needs a second season to say the least considering how much more there is to the story and some of the main questions like “Why God had abandoned the World” is still unknown. Very much a mysterious world that the main characters live in.

The new RM (Rozen Maiden), I think, was pretty good also in its own right (my 4th fave of the season), and brought a little tear to my eye at the last ep. It certainly had its share of fun, sad and drama-filled moments.

I still can’t believe I got thru Watamote… that was the hardest show for me to watch this season given all the cringe-worthy scenes, and sometimes some really ecchi/poor taste scenes that just made me shake my head. I do have to admit, though, there were a few scenes that actually did get a “lol” out of me, and there was one scene towards the end of ep 11, that made me go “Wow, that was just beautiful stuff,” and made me feel like there was 1 redeeming thing in this ENTIRE series, lol.

As for Fate/Kaleid Liner… O_O <— I think that face sums it up pretty well! 😃 No, but seriously, for a magical girl show, it was pretty decent, if u can look past some of the lewd scenes/jokes. Some of the battle scenes, I think, ranged from so-so to pretty awesome (especially the one with Saber Alter - easily the best!). I think the fights were more enjoyable than Madoka Magica. It’s sad, though, from I hear, the 2nd season of this will follow the 2nd manga, which apparently will go into yuri territory. Although, I kinda expected that with how the last ep of this series went… and that lesbian-ish end card at the end of the last ep… O_O
I just hope the new Madoka Magica sequel movie (and possible new seasons which I heard was possible) doesn’t head into that territory.

As for Fall shows, I haven’t really done much of any research, and I’m not sure I’ll be getting into any this time around, except for continuing simulcasts like RWBY. I’m gonna try to “catch up” on my “to-watch” list, but I may watch 1, maybe 2 at most from the Fall season after a couple eps air, and see which ones people seem to be raving about.
I also tried watching My Bride is a Mermaid, and got through maybe 5 episodes before I had to give it up. Maybe I will try again if I am ever feeling the need to watch something completely frivolous.
I tried watching that a few years back, and I think I stopped a few eps into it myself, lol. I found it to be a little too wacky for my tastes that I just couldn’t take it very seriously. xD

Very much a mysterious world that the main characters live in, and 12 eps don’t do anywhere near enough justice for this series. Sadly, from what I heard, it’s not selling well, and not that popular in Japan. 😦

Lastly, while searching for an international (Singapore) legal streaming site for someone, I actually found a place that broadcasts Hyouka (although I believe they finished airing it several weeks back, but I suspect they’ll air it again sometime since I think they do some kind rotation with their shows): animax-taiwan.com/videos/series/bing-guo - Only thing is that I believe u need to live in Taiwan to watch it, and be able to understand (what I think are) Chinese subtitles! XD… 😦

Great to see the thread continued even though I can’t stick around for too long.

With news that the man who made a big splash with establishing realistically detailed military tech and political thrillers starting with “The hunt for red october” and with his last novel “Command authority” to be out in a few months died this week.Ive been wondering if anyone here has suggestions for what Tom Clancy novels would make for excellent series adaptation?.

I could see Kenji Kamiyama writing and directing b/c of the chops he showed for the “Ghost in the shell” anime with Hiroyuki Okiura (director of Jin-roh but mostly an animator) co-labing on the animation.

😊 Now I just feel bad for coming up with this idea now that he died since I’m sure development of a adaptation of his stuff under his eye would make it turn out better.

This is probably a long-shot, but is anybody following the 2013 Anime Saimoe Tournament? For those unfamiliar with this, it is an online popularity contest that is done yearly on the Japanese Internet discussion board 2channel since 2002. How it basically works is that it employs a single elimination tournament format (by votes from fans around the world) to determine the most moe female character amongst thousands of contestants from anime released this year (this includes OVAs & movies) or ones released during the previous year.

SAIMOE Tournament 2013 - Current Bracket Results

At this point, of the people that are still “alive,” I guess I’ll be pulling for Kuroneko and Ayase (from Oreimo), Kyouko (from Madoka Magica) and Asuna (from SAO). Although, I kind of expect Mami (from Madoka Magica) to win again - she actually was the previous winner in 2011 - not really sure why people love Mami so much to be honest. And I am disappointed too that they put both Madoka and Homura (from Madoka Magica) in the SAME Group B1 bracket… which means that they had to face off against one another (and another character), in the 2nd round, which I don’t think was very cool. 😦 They really should’ve put them in a different division.
And I just want to know why Mikasa from AoT was even eligible, lol. Imo, she’s far from being a moe character. 😃

I’m trying to make sense of the brackets. It’s overwhelming! Either way, moe is an interesting topic. However, I’m not sure what to say about it, except that I tend to prefer it in moderation.

I’m not sure I even know what “Moe” means, exactly. Other than that it has something to do with cuteness. I suppose I’m not somebody who would have an opinion on it.

Anyway, I have trouble seeing why Mami would win, particularly if the other characters from Madoka Magica are options. Mami seems like the most grown-up, and Homura is adorable. 🤷

I’m not sure what defines moe much either, since it seems like the term can be used pretty broadly. (And yeah, Mikasa would be more yandere than moe, no? Haha.) Some of my friends couldn’t get into K on! because it was too “moe” for them, but I liked it because it was cute, innocent, and harmless to watch (by my standards anyway). But yes, moe in moderation, lol.

On another note, I will miss the summer season, especially Attack on Titan! So far I’m watching Kuroko no Basuke, Kyoukai no Kanata, and Gingitsune. I’d like to try out Samurai Flamenco and Yowamushi Pedal too, once they air on CR. Kill la Kill also looks interesting, but I hesitate to watch because I can’t get over the main character’s outfit. Maybe that’s just me. XD

Yeah, I wasn’t sure what to make of the first episode of Kill la Kill. I’m hoping that later episodes will make more sense, though if my suspicion that it’s a parody is correct, that probably won’t happen.

Also, The Eccentric Family was great. I wonder if there will be a second season. In any case, the ending was fine as as it was, so it doesn’t really need a second season, even if one would be interesting.

P. S. As far as I know, while moe is a very subjective concept, it mostly involves cute characters and situations that inspire the audience’s protective instincts. Thus, I’m not sure why anyone would consider Mikasa moe either, but the moe concept seems to get broader all the time for whatever reason.

The definition of Moé is similar to what MatsudaBerry describes.

I watched recently the first episodes of Coppelion and Kyoukai no Kanata.

Blessings!

🙂

Anyway, I have trouble seeing why Mami would win, particularly if the other characters from Madoka Magica are options.
Yeah, it’s because the large fandom behind Mami is insane! 😛 Kyouko was actually the runner-up to Mami in 2011 (she lost by 77 votes). That same year, Madoka got ousted by Mami in the semi-finals by 15, Miki lost to Madoka by 44 in the quarterfinals, and Homura lost (right away) in a pretty close match in the 1st round against the formidable Mikoto (from A Certain Magical Index).

This year, though, Madoka and Homura are already out, as they got bested in round 2 by the Ayase (Oreimo) fandom. It is possible that Madoka may qualify for the losers bracket, but I think it’ll depend on who the winner is of Group B. Between Kyouko and Miki who are still “alive,” I think Miki has the best chance to make it the furthest since she seems to me to have the least competition against her in her group (H) - I don’t think the fandom behind her is strong enough to win it all though. As for Kyouko, I can see her losing the next match against Rikka (from Chuunibyou) since she’s just way too popular, but u never know ~ I’m sure it’ll be a close match either way. But if she does get by Rikka… she certainly has the fandom to make some noise the rest of the way!

👍

I think they put Mikasa in there just because… she’s Mikasa, lol! 😃 Even the potato girl is there, lol ~ But there’s a lot of people there that I don’t think belong, but if there was an AoT character that maybe did belong, perhaps Krista would:

And speaking of AoT characters, for those that have seen the show, there was an interesting popularity contest on AoT:
Don’t click the following link though, if u haven’t seen the ENTIRE AoT series, since there are MAJOR, MAJOR spoilers from the show on there!!!
AoT Character Rankings The one that I found the most hilarious on this poll was how the “horses” made the list and got over 400 votes! LOL!

So I just watched the first episode of Kill la Kill.

This might be the most gloriously amazing anime parody ever.

For the genre, anyway, since it’s hard to pull off a better affectionate parody than Ouran. And I’ll always have a special place in my heart for Sgt. Frog. I love parodies. 😃

But yeah. Sense isn’t something it has a lot of, but I am so looking forward to more. It’s just so gloriously over-the-top in everything from animation to character designs to concept. Maybe it’ll turn out to be nothing special, but I’ll definitely be watching the second episode! 👍

Thus far, I’ve watched:

–Golden Time
–BlazBlue
–Kyokai no Kanata (Beyond the Boundary)
–Gingitsune
–Outbreak Company
–Strike the Blood
–Arpeggio of Blue Steel
–Log Horizon

Golden Time’s my #1 show this season, but I’m a Toradora fanboy, so I’m biased. Arpeggio is also very good, and it’s entirely CG, as far as I can tell. Log Horizon and Outbreak Company are also worth a look. Akatsuki (Log Horizon) and Myucel (Outbreak Company) are adorable.

Ooooohhh so update: according to the people at ANN (who may or may not know what they’re talking about), this show ISN’T a brilliant parody. It’s just crazy.

I have to admit, I can’t see how any of that episode (particularly the egregious fanservice) could have been something other than commentary and/or parody, but apparently the creator has a track record of making crazy and somewhat perverted comedy series. 😑

Let’s be honest: I’m still going to end up watching this, at least until I determine how much of it is tongue-in-cheek. It was just too strange and over-the-top to ignore. And I actually do like the main character, the school, and the ridiculous style of it all. 🤷

This will be interesting, but I’m not sure if it’ll be in a good way or not. Regardless, I still have to admit that it was a strong first episode that piqued my curiosity. :o

I love to watch Cardcaptor Sakura, Tsubasa Chronicles, etc! And I really love their OST musics like why do Japanese anime songs are so nice??? T__T I typically liked D.Gray-Man’s ending song called ‘Yume no Tsudzuki He’. It has such a nice tune to it. Anyways, recently I’ve been addicted to watching Pokemon season 1 (Is this considered a sin?) Oh well… Anyways, are there new animes currently that nice to watch??? :))

Haha, yeah, there’s a certain something to anime songs that make them quite enjoyable. I’d imagine part of it is the mystique around the Japanese language, since most of us, probably don’t even know what they’re saying, lol ~ and that, in it of itself, makes it attractive and kinda “cool.” 2nd, being able to conjure up mental images and feelings of the anime (that we loved) in which it is associated with, I believe, makes it even more enjoyable! xD
And I will admit, I love the CCS opening theme “Catch You Catch Me!” I used to listen to it all the time, and even used to have it on constant repeat, along with Inuyasha’s “Change the World!” XD
As for D.Grayman, I loved that show, since I really liked Allen Walker and Lenalee as characters! I’m just disappointed there’s only 51 eps that are legally available to watch, and considering how popular of a show this is, I find it shocking! But I had heard (could be a rumor, though) that the company is asking for too much money to have the rest of the eps being licensed outside Japan (or at least to English speaking countries). :o

Personally, I don’t find anything really objectionable with Pokemon. I had read before in a magazine quite a long time ago, though, that in the Japanese version, they do have nude/bath scenes (I think of Misty and maybe some other characters, I can’t really remember)… but even then, I would hesitate to call it an outright sin, but it certainly could be an occasion of sin for certain individuals. Generally, though, I think it’s best to always avoid looking at nude characters to try to keep the mind pure of mental images that can incite some not-so good images to the mind.
As for your “addiction” to Pokemon, I don’t think any of us here can really say that u are sinning - since we don’t know the level of extent your “addiction” is. If it is such, that it becomes something that takes the place of God in your life and becomes more important than Him (which is basically idolatry - which is not good), then yes. Just remember that at the end of the day, anime is JUST a means of entertainment, it should be, as any hobby, enjoyed in moderation. 🙂

As for new animes that u may be interested in… well, ironchapman had recommended some to check out (a few posts above this post), and I keep hearing things about Kill la Kill as well, so I may have to check out at least 1 ep of that some time. I’m still finishing up Clannad (on ep 15 right now) ~ seems to have some eps that are kinda boring, but some of the serious parts, definitely are quite touching and emotional for sure!

Oh, and I noticed that u just joined today, so… ようこそ! WELCOME TO THE FORUMS! 🙂 And I’ll try not to scare u off! 😛 😃
