Something I forgot to mention about the Yuuki Yuuna series.

One of the girls is shown doing card readings various times.

Example, someone promotes or discusses in a website, blog or forum, a show with lots of emotional bonding between girls. Let’s say is a more ambiguous show.

Among the possible public for the show, there would be people influenced by said activism, (or by fetichism) that are going to enjoy the show, interpreting the series as yuri.
I am not sure why we should care about how others are going to interpret a show if we are not going to interpret the show that way.

This is what I mean about avoiding fanfic, if the show is ambiguous enough to be interpreted innocently, then I am not going to let fanfic ruin a good show, and make me stop watching, because some people are gross.

That was about giving publicity or promoting a show, with, directly questionable content, or ambiguous ones.

I have been re-watching Ghost Hunt. For me, art style and animation is very important when enjoying an anime. Like Kamaduck, I haven’t really even attempted to watch One Piece because of the art style. Fairy Tail is probably the only anime I like that has a
“sloppier” art style. I really like the intro and ending music. I think Kamaduck would like this anime. It is a paranormal anime, with lots pf adult themes (death, murder, possession). There is probably “bad magic” involved and there is a 19 year old “excommunicated priest.” But I really like it.

The ones at Yuuki Yuuna were tarot readings.

Regarding the link, I thought that was an urban legend of sorts. Although it seems that it was an good opinion by a station run by the Italian Bishops’ Conference, and not a Papal Blessing.
Tarot would just be a more specific sort of magic or dark arts, which Pokemon also employs. Pokemon is also targeted at young children while Yuna is an older teen/adult show. In Yuki Yuna is it real Tarot being read? And then should one not watch any anime where a murder is shown?

I have to disagree here. If Yuki Yuna is somehow supporting Tarot readings and promoting them to troubled young people, yes. But for us adults who think Tarot readings are nonsense, and are used as a plot device by these most likely atheist Japanese anime writers I don’t think the issue is as important. It is important for children and for easily duped people but not others.

(BTW there is no good magic in Catholic moral teaching. So Tarot or pretend Tarot by a different name where cute yellow monsters are controlled are equivalent.)

About this, yes maybe John Paul II did not “bless” Pokemon, but what counts is that an authoritative body of the Church proper said it was not a big deal.

I was just mentioning it.

But now that you wrote more about the topic, I think the problem is for children and easily influenced people. And, for the ones including that in their productions.

However, there is a distinction between magic and non-magic in Catholic teaching. So cards depicting fake or pretend cute yellow monsters, were one pretends to control those pretend cute yellow monsters, it not magic.

I’m wasn’t arguing against Pokemon, but mentioning that it wasn’t a proper Papal Blessing, as the title of the article suggest and what some people said.

But now that you mention autoritative bodies of the Church… how much authority has a local Bishop’s conference worldwide?

I disagree.

It’s still a supernatural force being used which does not originate directly from God.

So I’m not so sure. It’s probably distinction without a difference.

Also the Tarot cards in Yuuki Yuna are not real Tarot cards but a pixels resembling something like Tarot cards for plot device purposes, and what the anime writer thought the Tarot would be like. There is no one summoning anything or telling fortune. It’s not even a person in front of a camera with Tarot cards pretending to be doing anything.

You can also argue that pretense occurs in Yuki Yuna.

Fairy Tail has a similar style to One Piece. Is possible that the mangakas of these series have worked or studied together.

I haven’t watched it. It seems to have lots of fanservice.

Sure and I never suggested it was.

More than us, I would presume. 🙂

In Fairy Tail? There is some, but less than most. The main female character is large on top, so there are a lot of shots of her clothed chest. But there seems to be a lot less flesh than in other magic girl anime.

According to what I’ve read (about the manga too) it seems that the quantity of fanservice isn’t small.

God bless you!

Okay new topic for thread:

What about the things that are heavily tied to anime culture? Would you all think they’re technically off-topic since they’re not exactly anime shows or manga series?

Since we just discussed fandoms, I think plenty of us can see strong connections between what is explicitly the anime medium and other areas like light novels, a sector of the video game industry, and even tokusatsu.

I’ve been watching some Celestial Method and I’ve got to say it’s good.

Now it is pretty kitschy and driven by emotional over expression or drama as is the bulk of Japanese TV and anime but the characters again are very endearing, the story is intriguing and there is no fanservice. (When a girl sits, the dress is raised to cover the panty area.) Now there may be a hot springs episode, which I haven’t watched yet - only watched until 5, but even there I doubt it should be bad considering what I’ve seen so far.

Celestial Method AKA Sora no Method.

Story reminds me a bit of Anohana (We Still Don’t Know the Name of the Flower We Saw That Day), which was also a fanservice deficient show, had a story focusing on past childhood events, promises and also loaded with tons of melodrama.
