Does anyone like Witch-Hunter Robin? I bought a dvd a long time ago that had the first 5 episodes on it. I watched it and it instantly became one of my favorite animes, after the Ghost in the Shell series (my top favorite anime). But I could never find the other dvds or dvd set of the whole series. I eventually bought the anime collection set that has all the episodes but have not watched the rest of the series yet.

It’s been a long time since I’ve had an “anime fix.”

Recently, various series are catering to various fetishes, so is possible that series is following the formula too.
Like I noted, it’s easy to think that, and I can see why. Still, I’m not convinced they’ll go in a yuri direction.

Got my Project Diva F PS3 English game today in da post. Too lazy to set up PS3 but I guess I’ll play it at some stage in the future. Still it’s nice to keep it on the shelf. 🙂

38 songs sung by Hatsune Miku and her friends. Kawaii!!! Sugoi!!! etc.

Are we still talking about Nobunagun? I’m with ironchapman- at least in the first episode, it just looks like a normal budding friendship. You could argue about presentation with the blushing and the specific shots used, but I’d be surprised if the “romantic friendship” thing progressed beyond iffy subtext. I don’t think it’ll get in the way of the show as a whole. Hopefully we’ll get a nice friendship between two girls without the show feeling the need to cheapen it.

So far, though, I have no complaints.

U guys make me want to watch Nobunagun now, lol.
I’m loving it! Just saw the second episode. The premise is weird but really interesting, and the art matches the tone perfectly. It kind of reminds me of Soul Eater, with the human weapons and everything. If you’ve seen and liked that, I guess check it out?

The weird creature that’s in charge of DOGOO reminds me of Kyubey. It’s the eyes. And his attitude. I am interested to see whether DOGOO is entirely trustworthy. I’m also excited to see the other historical figure “reincarnations” fleshed out. At first I was really skeptical about Gandhi as a fighter (given that he was a pacifist), but it turns out he’s a barrier warrior who protects Jack the Ripper and Isaac Newton. I think it works, and I can’t wait to learn a little more about all of them.

The friendship between Shio and Asao is further developed, and yeah, it’s still giving off romantic vibes. It’s not overstated, though. I still think it’s adding to the show- Asao is really the only friend that Shio has, and she just saved her life, so… I dunno, I don’t think either is acting that oddly. I hope they can stay friends after Shio joins DOGOO.

The episode three preview looked pretty sketchy, though. I guess I have to wait a week to see how that works out. Hopefully fanservice doesn’t become a huge problem. o_o

On the other hand, Soul Eater had rampant fanservice in the first three episodes and then it pretty much completely disappeared apart from scenes with Blair. Nobunagun would have to do something pretty awful to get me to stop watching after those amazing first two episodes.

I’ve seen some images from a review of the latest Nobunagun. It’s just a quick scene or two.

OK, good. In that case, I’ll definitely be sticking around. 😃

I’ve never watched a show as it comes out like this before… It’s exciting, but now I have to wait a week, not knowing how long the awesomeness will last. Will the later episodes continue the style and tone of the first two while fleshing out the characters and world, or will the story get bogged down somewhere and end up giving me something to complain about after all?

Either way, I’ll be watching. 🍿

Just watched some episodes.

I think she blushes because I guess is her first friend, although some of her expressions and the textured backgrounds (they could have avoided putting these though) used hinted as something more romantic. Maybe they are trying to get the attention of yuri fans.

I don’t like the reincarnation stuff, but it seems that instead of reincarnations they are people infused with the historical characters’s DNA.

That strange creature looks like a bunny, and a Dogū. The ears look like the eyes of these figures, and he has a similar body structure and posture, plus the detailing of the “armor”. Also, the name DOGOO could be another reference.

Speaking of references, glasses guy’s name is similar to the one of an XVIII century music and courtier that is a popular figure in the myths of some New Age and esoteric sects.

Well, the romantic vibes aren’t needed to show she is her first or only friend.

Yes, is a tasteless quick scene. After that, there are a series of fanservicey photos… maybe that old guy is going to keep “producing” fanservice in the series at the expenses of the main character.

Anyone is watching Tonari no Seki-kun?

Blessings!

My favorite from this season so far has been The Pilot’s Love Song. I can hardly wait for more episodes.

P. S. I think it’s a little disappointing that people dropped Shin Sekai Yori because of one episode, though I can certainly understand why. The series has a lot to offer, none of the couples from that episode make it to the end, and while the show strongly implies that most people in its universe are bisexual (at least during adolescence), there’s a reason for it that people apparently didn’t notice because they foreshadowed it several episodes before the infamous episode eight. If you can get through something like Brave New World with no problems, I think you’d be fine, but I could be misunderstanding something.

I enjoyed Date A Live from last year, so I’m just going to leave this here and remark that it should be illegal to be this cute.

Yeah, that was a surprise show for sure! I’m still waiting for that OVA, though. I know Funi has had it listed on their site (which is a good sign) since I think October or so. It also already aired in Japan in early Dec. of last year, but Funi still hasn’t quite yet released it for viewing on their site. My guess is maybe they’re planning on only releasing it with the DVD/BD bundle of the 1st season, when and if it gets dubbed. I don’t know. : (
In any case, I already kinda spoiled myself by reading the Wikipedia synopsis of what happens in it, lol, but I’d still like to see it animated. ^.^

And Yoshino is indeed ultra moe! She didn’t make it to the Final 16 of the past Saimoe tournament for nothing, lol! 😃

So right now, I am watching the following new shows (no order)

Noragami
Hamatora
Sekai Seifuku/World Conquest Zvezda Plot
Nobunagun
Nisekoi
Pilot’s Love Song
D-frag
Chuunibyou 2
Witch Craft Works
Mikakunin/Engaged to the Unidentified
Seitokai Yakuindomo
Inari, Kon Kon, Koi Iroha
Hozuki no Reitetsu

Of those, I’d really recommend giving Noragami, Hamatora, Sekai Seifuku, Nisekoi, Pilot’s Love Song, Chuunibyou, and Inari a shot. My top 4 are Noragami, Hamatora, Sekai, and Pilot’s Love Song. Beyond that, I’m not so sure, but I’m hoping to keep as many as I can. If I drop one, it’ll probably be Seitokai Yakuindomo, if the constant stream of sex jokes gets too tiresome. On the plus side, it does manage to avoid a lot of very obvious and very cheap fanservice opportunities, which is why I continue to watch it.

Interestingly, despite watching so many shows, there aren’t too many OPs or EDS that stand out to me. Witch Craft Works has a fhana OP, and it’s suitably awesome. It’s also on iTunes in the US, which is similarly awesome. Hamatora’s OP is also great, and also on iTunes in the US. I’d also recommend Sekai Seifuku’s OP.

Past few months my boyfriend has really gotten me back into anime. Before him the few animes I watched were anything ghibli, elfen leid, and hell girl. Since meeting him we’ve watched Chobits, H2o footprints in the sand (so awesome btw), myself yourself, and currently fruits basket. Love all of these and would really like to find more that are similar to these. Any suggestions?

The only one I have seen on your list is Fruits Basket.
I really liked Fruits Basket, something similar might be Princess Tutu, (not really similar), but sweet, but really interesting plot, more fantasy oriented, with school life thrown in there. I also really enjoyed Ghost Hunt, an ensemble anime, there is some blood and gore, especially at the end, it is a paranormal anime, with some good twists at the end.
But these two are generally fun and have a lighter feeling.

I would just like to note that I am becoming disgusted with how characters of the same sex cannot apparently just be friends anymore in anime. Even in shows where there are no real yuri undertones, the fanbases will ship the two close friends anyways.

Chu2koi is one example, and this week’s episode focusing on Shinka and Dekomori brings it to the front. I don’t get any yuri undertones from their interactions. If they exist they are very subtle or ambiguous. Nevertheless, there are plenty of people saying “I can’t see Nibutani and Dekomori as anything but a couple. They need to get together NOW!” or some variation–all because they appear to have some kind of friendship beneath all the efforts to annoy each other and know how to push each other’s buttons (as the expression goes). Why can’t they just be friends?

Why can’t two guys or two girls in a show with no yuri undertones (talking about anime in general here) be just friends? That’s the way it’s been in my life. Is it that impossible for people to imagine friendly relationships with no sexual or romantic aspects between any two people, whether it’s two people of the same or different sexes?

Heh, yep, join the club! 😛 Although, I’ve been tired of that for a while, to be honest. But usually, I just ignore comments like that and not let it get to me, since I can completely understand why people would want to see that. I’ve been there myself, and as I’ve said before (I think), if I wasn’t taking my faith seriously (and restraining my fleshly desires), I would probably still be shipping female couples delightedly.

For myself, when I used to ship females, I had a 2-fold reasoning (which I’m sure is the same for a lot of other people):
  1. There was something extremely… er… sexual/gratifying, I guess, about seeing female couples together. Not males, though…
  2. I wanted to see them happy! And unfortunately, back then, my perception of ultimate happiness was to see 2 humans together “in love”, w/out it even mattering if they’re the same gender, though preferably opposite.

I agree, but that’s how fandom is. It ships people. All the people. I think it’s really great when we can have close non-romantic friendships in fiction, whether it’s between two guys, two girls, or a girl and a guy. Friendship is really important, and I’m glad when people can appreciate friendship for what it is, instead of wanting it to be something else. I think there are a lot of people who do appreciate friendships, but there’s always going to be someone in the fandom who wants to make it romantic or sexual, and you just have to kind of ignore it.

Which is not to say that it doesn’t have negative effects- just that it doesn’t surprise me. Even apart from the same-gender ships, shipping everything devalues canon friendships, and, by extension, actual friendships in real life. We (fans) end up seeing relationships as meaningless or unimportant if they don’t include romantic feelings, and/or lead to marriage/sex. In real life, friendships are incredibly important relationships. They might not be as important as, say, a marriage relationship, but they’re really valuable in and of themselves.

Fortunately it doesn’t seem to be so much a problem with anime itself (I mean, it’s becoming a problem, but there’re still lots of uncomplicated friendships, as well as familial ties and other kinds of relationships) as with fandom. I guess the best thing we can do is just appreciate friendships the way they are.

I’d probably ship about the same things even without my faith. I’m not really a huge shipper, and the relationships I do like tend to be kinda bordering on platonic anyways. I usually just like seeing people interact and form bonds.

Your second point brings up another negative consequence of shipping everybody- namely, conflating romantic relationships with happiness. I like to think that romance isn’t necessary for happiness, or for having a fulfilling, enjoyable life. 🙂

Man, now you guys have me examining my shipping choices. I’m not sure any of my favorite ships are likely to end up married, or in some cases are even able to get married. Huh. That’s actually kind of weird, now that I think about it.
