Well… certainly not as long a thread, and perhaps because everyone was pretty much agreed that they wanted Ann to be their BFF, while here there are some (me included) who just find her TOO offensive.
well, no offense my friends but it is time for me to unsubscribe from this thread. Ann bores me…

bye!👋

One thing is for sure…to assist in abortion in any way is an excommunication offense…so the least we can do is pray for the poor guy…
pray for him - yes…
poor guy? If he rejected Christ over and over (the Holy Spirit calls to people over & over in this life - to accept Christ & His forgiveness/holiness)… then it is hard to feel too much pity for him…

even so i will try to muster some up…

Ann Coulter is a professional WASP .She is seen and has spoken at many fundamentalist venues-enough said.
I voted for G.B.II twice-I was a republican. I’ve been a teacher of scripture for five years now. When bush went about touting his christianity and then in the next breath justifying his use of torture-well that was my breaking point.Don’t speak glowingly of your righteous Christianity then extol the virtues of torture and capital punishment.I had to make a decision. Was republican first, or a catholic, was I conservative first or a believer, was I an American first or a Christian?I had to chose. From beginning to end of the Bible ,God’s love of the poor, the downtrodden, the transient, those in desperate straits, those forgotten, those damaged ,those hurting, those in need, those in pain supercedes any national or political agenda. So I became an independent in all my ways of thinking .That doesn’t mean I don’t get angry or have my moments of jingoism but I try not to have a knee-jerk response and try to ponder what Scripture says, what the church says before I act and(sometimes!)when I speak.
what Bush supported was called torture by the Left… it was not torture… compared to waht McCain went through in Viet Nam when captured… (etc, ect).

pepole who kill 1000s of pepole by running planes into skyscrapers are enemy combatants (gee… Why does THAT need to be said )… when they do such thingsthey take a chance of being caught by the enemy and “tortured”… If we did not “torture” them, they would keep on running planes into our skyscrapers and - What if YOU or YOUR loved ones was in one of those skyscrapers??

I couldn’t even get past the first PAGE of this. I am about as right-wing as you can get and her comments still disgust me. Most of the Republicans I know can’t stand her either. She cares about no thoughts but her own. If someone disagrees, then she degrades them and makes disparaging comments about them, etc. She is so judgemental it makes me sick. Christians are not supposed to be judgemental, though it does happen because we are human. She takes it to a whole new level, though.

She makes me embarrassed to be a Republican.
it is judgmental to call someone judgmental… someone you don’t even know. Not only that it is presumptuous. since, again, you dont know her

you have no idea what Coulter cares about (you say she only cares about her own thoughts)…

you come across as extremely hateful…

wonder what’s behind that…

Really?

I don’t remember any where our faith teaches us: *‘Do on to others as they did to you’. *
Interestingly, McCain was and continues to be the strongest opponent of torture.
Our enemies didn’t adhere to the Geneva Convention. Many of my comrades were subjected to very cruel, very inhumane and degrading treatment, a few of them even unto death. But every one of us – every single one of us – knew and took great strength from the belief that we were different from our enemies, that we were better than them, that we, if the roles were reversed, would not disgrace ourselves by committing or countenancing such mistreatment of them.

From a book written by a Leftie who converted to the Right 🙂

Harry Stein from How I Accidentally Joined the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy (and Found Inner Peace) (emphasis added):

(love that title :):

*In this nation’s street fight [between left & right] the Left has the clear strategic advantage. As in the sixties it was easy to be for Peace, Love and Freedom … it remains easy thirty years later. It’s a lot harder trying to make the case for disicpline over indulgence, character over glibness, real solutions over feel-good short-term fixes.

I, for one, can respect serious souls who continue to bleive that liberalism remains the road to an honorable and humane future. But a lot of contemporary liberal dogma is not so much forward-looking as based on contempt for the past, including what many of us see as our best traditions and most essential values; we are thus deeply affronted by the characterization of both the way things are and how they used to be…
**both sides are marked by their fair share of intellectual corruption and many on each side have made an art of turning truth on its head.

But it strikes me that the question that needs to get asked and asked and asked again - not glossed over, but seriously thought about - is one which would never even occur to most who see themselves as progressive: which side is more intolerant? Or, perhaps more acurately, which side’s brand of intolerance has done more damage lately**?

For it is not as if committed cultural liberals refuse to pass judment. They’re endlessly on the lookout for racism, sexism, homophobia, lookism ?], ageism, ableism, classism, ethnocentrism, you name it, and perceived transgresors can expect no mercy. The only excesses they won’t condemn are sexual ones.

They’re for every kind of diversity going - except diversity of thought. *

“… they can expect no mercy…”

explains the hostility here against Coulter…

(of course i needed no such explanation… For one thing Jesus warned us Christians that we would be “hated by all” because of Him)

What does this have to do with Ann Coulter?

Once again, distracted - who in just the previous post:
it is judgmental to call someone judgmental… someone you don’t even know. Not only that it is presumptuous. since, again, you dont know her you have no idea what Coulter cares about (you say she only cares about her own thoughts)…you come across as extremely hateful… wonder what’s behind that…
seems incapable of applying her own words to her own posts…

Sadly in a thread on the public content of Ann Coulter in press, web and on TV - you seem to prefer to attack those who find this content offensive, failing to recognize the lack of charity, over and over accusing others of ad hominem while repeatedly making the discussion personal, as a way to take the discussion off track - I am sure that some may consider it an ‘effective’ means of communication, and it would make sense to me if one did so - to also find Coulter an ‘effective’ communicator.

To many of us apparently who have posted on this thread it is the content of Ann Coulter’s ‘message’ that does not represent us as Americans, as Christians, as people who are pro-life, AND, I find her tone to actually be destructive to the message of pro-life - while some may hear it as satirical - I hear it is ‘extremely hateful’ - to use your words, distracted.

Torture comes in degrees. Waterboarding clearly fits most standard definitions of torture. You and other defenders of waterboarding try to redefine torture by using particularly horrific examples of torture as the standard. But that’s unreasonable. You can always find some kind of torture that is even more horrific than whatever practice we are discussing. The question is: what is the line between actions that are torture and actions that are not? You are obscuring this by raising the false issue of a distinction between more and less horrific forms of torture.
pepole who kill 1000s of pepole by running planes into skyscrapers are enemy combatants (gee… Why does THAT need to be said )
It doesn’t. So why did you say it?
when they do such thingsthey take a chance of being caught by the enemy and “tortured”
No, they run that risk only if they attack wicked and immoral people. When they attack virtuous people, they do not run any such risk. Virtuous people–and virtuous societies–do not torture. Period. If that means that we are all destroyed, then so be it. But I don’t think that will happen. Evil defeats itself in the end, and as a matter of fact torture is of dubious effectiveness. You are advocating something which is certainly immoral in order to bring about a practical result that is very much in dispute.
If we did not “torture” them, they would keep on running planes into our skyscrapers
Waterboarding doesn’t keep people from committing terrorist acts. It may possibly in some cases lead to information that will help us prevent *other *people from committing terrorist acts.
and - What if YOU or YOUR loved ones was in one of those skyscrapers??
Pro-choice folks can say “what if your daughter was raped”? You can use a personal appeal to justify any immorality.

Waterboarding is the infliction of suffering in order to obtain information or a confession.

Torture is best defined as the infliction of suffering in order to obtain information or a confession.

Therefore, waterboarding is torture.

Torture is intrinsically evil.

Therefore, waterboarding is intrinsically evil.

With which of these propositions do you disagree?

Funny. You and Coulter are the ones saying that we should not treat our enemies mercifully. Your claim that you are being treated unmercifully simply because we point out the errors of your views rings hollow.
(of course i needed no such explanation… For one thing Jesus warned us Christians that we would be “hated by all” because of Him)
Where did Jesus teach us to invade and forcibly convert other countries, to bomb civilian targets, to rape the earth, or to torture our enemies?

Since Jesus taught none of these things, you ought not to be invoking His name to explain the hostility others express toward these positions which you have defended.

Actually some of my loved ones were in skyscrapers and made it out. I had one who worked for Duts che Bank. one who did electric work there in the towers. one Who is worked in one of the otherbuildings in the complex(right next to WT ).My husband’s cousin worked on Wall street. So yeah, I do know…If you lived in NYC and environs you know somebody who went there. I forgot my other cousin who lives in Tribeca who witnessed the whole thing.
Do you really believe that Jesus would approve of torture any type of torture?Do you think someone who endured brutal torture would agree to it?You forget one thing about torture-pain is not the only thing involved. humiliation ,dehumanization, and not only for the victim but for the torturer.Torture desensitizes the torturer and does not appeal to"our better angels".It appeals to the darkest part of human nature-the primordial serpent that is hidden in all of us. That is something I rather not unleash in anybody.if you don’t think torture can create monsters then you better start reading accounts of those who worked in prison camps, Nazi, Soviet- the stories are similar.Ordinary people can become monsters by the pain they inflict on others.First it’s distasteful, then the aren’t bothered by it and are desensitized. Then they begin to enjoy it. This darkness is possible in anyone. How unfair is it for a government to ask one of their citizens to torture-how unfair is the government to ask someone to risk their soul and unleash that which is worst in them?
I myself would not want to put temptation, or occasion of sin in front of anybody-would you.?
I used to be someone who always sided with authority, government- the Gospels convicted me- the Bible pointed it’s finger at me.Choose ! it said.I try and continue strive for that as best as my human ability will carry me- and I pray that He will give me the strength to continue on this path.

**Right on, Edwin!!! **

Distratcted

I am so sad to see someone with so much hate in their hearts. I believe you are hurting your case by giving arguments that are just to hurt the poster and not prove why your position is correct. There is no reason to make personal attacks because we don’t agree. Yes, we may not know her personally, but we know her from years of television and books. I will pray that you can find it in your heart to remember that we are real people with real feelings. We are children of God as well.
