Hello CB Catholic! Thank you for engaging on this thread.
You said,
When I asked for a specific paragraph reference, you said,
I had already searched the CCC, but I searched again, and I looked on the Vatican website as well…so far every “official-looking” reference that I have found for celebrating Sunday as the first Feast among feasts has had something to do with “feasting” on the Mass (obligatory whenever possible), singing, studying the faith, spending time with family, engaging in works of mercy, or some form of rest (also obligatory, so far as possible). I have failed to find anything that specifically tells me that “the general teaching is that we don’t fast on feast days” (besides the fact that fasting is not
required on Sundays or Solemnities). There is a whole Internet left to search, but the only thing that has come close so far is a paragraph from JP2’s apostolic letter, “Dies Domine”, from chapter 4, “Dies Hominis:”
"Voicing an awareness widespread in the Church, Saint Augustine describes the joy of the weekly Easter: “Fasting, is set aside and prayers are said standing, as a sign of the Resurrection, which is also why the Alleluia is sung on every Sunday”. (102)
This doesn’t seem helpful to me, as the Alleluia is omitted during Lent…
CB Catholic, you accused me of making things up that are not in line with Church teaching, but you did not provide a source for the Church teaching. Obviously there are difficulties in judging the tone of virtual communication, but these comments were perceived as an attack. Most versions of Lenten Sunday celebrations that I’ve heard have been of the “feasting” type, rather than the made-up “purple-altar-means-fast” type, but still, I haven’t found anything definitive, and I’ve heard both of these versions…
