The man on the ground was bleeding from his nose. I think this will play a part in all of this. Poor man, my prayers for all of those affected

Wanna bet the cop gets away with it? Even when they’re clearly in the wrong, courts tend to side with the police. That’s why some of them feel they can do this sort of thing. No accountability.

Has Kaepernick worn shirts with Fidel Castro on it? Castro was just a violator of human rights on a massive scale.

It’d be nice to hear Kaepernick talk about conditions in Cuban prisons, human rights in Cuba… if one is going this route.

So, I definitely think this is a false comparison. He seems to support heavy police action in places like Cuba.

So far to me, it looks like involuntary manslaughter. I believe in the video, the police officer is saying he will be okay. I don’t think this was intentional. It’s still terrible no matter what happened.

That is sort of true, as a matter of law. By that I mean that the courts have to determine in shooting cases what the state of mind was with the cop that shot in self-defense. The very nature of the job makes mistakes fatal, but not necessarily criminal. In this case, however, the man is under control of the officer. He was unable to shift from officer making an arrest to officer responsible for the man in his custody.

In a sense, no one “got away with this,” in that all four have been fired. The three that were not involved still had the responsibility so enforce the law, even against one of their own, and at least attempt intervention. So they are fired, but committed no crime. I tend to agree with the above poster that this is manslaughter, though I will go with the voluntary kind. We shall see.

I am hearing they had protests in Minneapolis tonight and had to break out the tear gas.

Yes, I think they will avoid criminal charges, and they will avoid civil charges as well.

The courts have expanded qualified immunity for government workers so broadly that it is almost impossible to hold them accountable via the civil route.

And criminally, police have created a system where the legal standard for their behavior is their training and policies yet they have adjusted their training and policies so that they continually violate our rights.

Easiest example of this is no-knock warrants (and other militarization tactics of our police) for simple arrest warrants. No more knocking on the door, presenting warrant, and allowing the arrestee to surrender themselves peacefully. No, that has been deemed to risky to officers so they now train to assault a house to serve that warrant. Oh, they came in the wrong house and a surprised homeowner fought back against an unknown intruder? If the innocent homeowner does live, he will likely be charged with a crime. If he does in a hail of bullets, then the officer’s tactics will be deemed “reasonable” because the “acted within their training.”

I doubt it. He murdered him. Held him down by the neck for at least 7 minutes. It’s on videotape. I know a bunch of people hope he gets a pass for this in trump’s amerikkka but I don’t think so. Same as with Arbery. The cold blooded white supremacist murder is on video. Scary how long its been going on here and things weren’t on video.

A few of the protesters got out of hand an broke some glass. While I understand the anger, I do not see how anyone could fault the response to this incident. All four who responded were fired, not suspended, but axed, canned, shown the door. Additionally, the FBI is investigating this as a crime.

He will most likely be acquitted. In most cases like this the cops always are, even when there is video evidence of the murder.

During a no knock raid here a few years ago a little girl in the living room was pelted with a tear gas can during the start of the raid and freaked out. When police broke the door in they shot her in the head.

Do we really trust the FBI these days?
