They’re not “disrespecting the vet.” They’re protesting injustice. You may not agree with the way they are doing it, but that doesn’t justify spreading falsehoods about what they’re doing.
why do they play the anthem at sports events?

I didn’t realize that the U.S. flag is for military veterans only. I always assumed it stood for all of us.

Yeah, that is a peculiar spin.
why do they play it at the sports events? it started as respect for those serving and dead who couldn’t be at the game itself. if it doesn’t now when did it change?

That it started as a tribute to veterans isn’t clear to me from what I read online.

To be honest, this year I’ve been watching more football than ever. Coincidentally, my son started playing, and my interest was revived after years of complete ambivalence. I haven’t turned the TV on in time to see any of the pre-game festivities; at this point I have no idea if anyone’s still kneeling. Don’t care much one way or the other.

Interestingly, it was a wounded veteran who suggested to Karpernick that he kneel, to symbolize both Kaepernick’s protest and to pay respect to veterans. Go figure.

Pre-2009 they were in the locker rooms? I could swear I’d seen them out there for the anthem my whole life. Maybe that was just for the Super Bowl, though, and I assumed it was the regular protocol.

I think it’s done as a point of unity before the battle.
during ww1 (unofficial start) it was to honor those who could not be at the game because they were serving the country at war or paid the ultimate sacrifice. it honors the vet.
