Jesus didn’t critcize the ‘religious institution.’ Notice when he condemned the pharisees he reminded the Jews to follow what they said, not what they do. He never told us not to have religion, he said not to have ‘hollow’ tradition. He said specifically “do what they say, not what they do.” All too many ignore that part of the story, and say Jesus condemned the religion and said not to follow it. He rather affirmed they were supposed to follow the tradition established by the pharisees, but not to be hypocrites like them.
So we see that as the New Israel, established in the 12 apostles, that Jesus has already told us to follow what the seat of the established religion says, and not to be hypocrites about it. Even if our priest is a hypocrite, we are to be orthodox AND orthoprax.
Thanks for that. My friends that have been posting the video on facebook are coincidentally Aggies. I think I will “share” it.This video has already been taken apart by several good websites.
Here is my favorite response (via Aggie Catholics)

This is DIRECTLY related to this thread.Perhaps you should begin a new thread.![]()
Are yo telling me to read a book? or is that what you would tell the person in the video? BTW I am a theology major and that’s all I do is read books.Read a book.
Thanks for the link to the article!This video has been Exploding on Facebook and around my campus like crazy and it has been really frustrating because everyone thinks its the greatest thing ever.
Our priest even mentioned it in his homily tonight. He compared the idea of loving Jesus without religion is like being in a relationship without having rules to guide that relationship. It’s like punching your spouse in the face and then expecting him or her act like everything is fine because you still love them. When you claim to love Jesus without trying your best to follow the rules He gave us, in reality, you are running away from his grace. It was a good sermon.
Here is a good article in response to that video…

THE HOLY SACRIFICE OF THE MASS
The Mass is the means whereby we may become the prolongation of Christ.
Through the offering of ourselves with Christ
Through the consecration of ourselves through Christ
Through the *communion in *Christ
“Introduction”, 1962 Missal, Angelus Press, pg. Lto the greater glory of the Blessed Trinity and the sanctification of our souls. The Mass reminds us at one and the same time of God’s CONdescension toward man, and of man’s Ascension toward God!
Does this kid not realize that man sought and found God… and that God used the Jewish people to start Christianity?How would I respond? Easy.
At 3:10-3:13 he says, " “Religion is man searching for God, Christianity is God searching for man”.
To that I’d respond:
“Introduction”, 1962 Missal, Angelus Press, pg. L
I don’t know if the guy was Catholic or what, but if he was/is, he was poorly catechized and ultimately, that’s on his shoulders as well as those who were supposed to instruct him.
Non sequitur alert.Does this kid not realize that man sought and found God… and that God used the Jewish people to start Christianity?
Judaism = Religion.
Christ = Good.
Jewish = Jesus
Therefore, Religion = Good.
I get it and agree with the thought, but I just wanted to point out it’s fallacious in terms of logic, which is the only thing that can correct the illogical points put forth by the spoken-word poem in the video.Pardon me…
It was an over simplified way of demonstrating that our Lord and Savior was religious and founded a religion therefore religion cannot be bad.
Ah, logic. My good old friend. Sometimes it’s good to argue with logic, sometimes it’s not… but I would really like to have an actual conversation with the kid in the video.I get it and agree with the thought, but I just wanted to point out it’s fallacious in terms of logic, which is the only thing that can correct the illogical points put forth by the spoken-word poem in the video.
