Prayers for his soul, and others who are in the same situation.

But it’s very odd. There have been a number of high-profile suicides recently! You would expect them to have so much to live for, with all their material success (versus the general lack-of-cultural-emphasis-on-the-spiritual-which-may-or-may-not-vary-with-the-individual)— it always comes as a surprise when people choose (what do they think they’re opting for? eternity? nothingness? something in between?)… 😦

Another article today
More than a decade of steadily rising rates have made suicide the nation’s 10th leading cause of death and one of only three causes of death — including Alzheimer’s disease and drug overdoses — that are increasing in the U.S., according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In a report that examines trends in suicide at the state level from 1999 to 2016, the CDC says suicide rates have increased in nearly every state. In half the states, the agency found the rate rose more than 30 percent.

In releasing the report — the same week fashion designer Kate Spade was found dead by suicide — CDC officials noted that more than half of those who died by suicide — 54 percent — did not have a known diagnosed mental health condition.

A new study on suicide trends in 27 states found that many victims acted after relationship problems or loss; substance misuse; physical health problems; or job, money, legal or housing stress.

“Our data suggests suicide is more than a mental health issue,” said Deborah M. Stone, lead author of that study. Noting that suicide is “very rare” among those with chronic depression, Stone said friends, families and co-workers should not overlook the risk of self-harm among people who have never been diagnosed with mental illness.

May God have mercy on his soul and may he rest in peace. Despair is such an overwhelming feeling. Feeling completely lost. I don’t know what was going on with him, but sometimes people feel such despair and anxiety and they can’t escape the spiral. Eventually they just break down. It is horrible.

 So many people in so much pain.

Eternal rest grant to him, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon him. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

This is definately not his greatest accomplishment, but I will always remember him with fondness for this video I used to use in the classroom to explain the bizarre Christmas custom of Caga Tio.

It’s been a rough week mental health is still so stigmatized in today’s society . If you need help get help , it’s not a sign of weakness … You matter and you are loved , get help

May the Father of mercies look on Anthony in love and compassion and may he welcome him into his kingdom

Amen

I was very shocked as well.

We were discussing how people who are very rich, successful, and seem to have a happy family life could commit suicide. Cliche, but money doesn’t buy happiness. It’s really sad.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord.

I had no clue about Kate Spade dying… definitely going to keep the souls of these two in my prayers. So sad that she left behind a young daughter.

I do agree with the statement that suicide goes beyond just mental illness. (Although it does play a big part)
Substance abuse or some trauma seems to be a leading factor in a lot of past celebrity suicides. It’s a horrible thing. 😦

I always liked this guy - no nonsense, a bit gruff.

Prayers for his soul.

Sad, Seems like all these famous suicides are tied to anxiety, depression and sleep medication or a mix of.

RIP.
Difficult to say with him…he had a really troubled youth and was a recovering heroin addict. Maybe he broke something back then that could never be fully fixed, no matter how much his life transformed for the better materially

They better investigate his death thoroughly. I’m not saying that there was foul play but he was in contact with different people who may have had enemies… Last week I saw this news snippet:

“But top officials in Azerbaijan, an oil-rich country nestled between Russia and Iran, want him to know this: He just became a persona non grata.”

That was a huge factor in why I liked him even though he was pretty rough around the edges. He’d pulled himself up and was essentially self made. I admired him for that greatly.

I enjoyed most of his work. He inspired me to appreciate food and learn how to cook. Pray for his soul and his family.

May he Rest In Peace.
May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, Rest In Peace.
Amen.

Kate Spade was apparently going through a divorce after a decades-long marriage. That sort of thing sends many people over the edge, unfortunately.

I enjoyed his earlier shows. As time went on it got more political and tried to be more artistic in the presentation. I liked that much less.

Was he secretly working for the US Government?
