Indeed. I was responding to stevie, since I don’t want this thread to stand in place of that book, which is a good counter to some of the less-over-the-top statements here.
I see, I didn’t read Stevie’s post haha.

Things here are pretty outlandish, more like spells that need to be broken than a coil that needs to be slowly unwound.

The question is… has anyone ever put Holy Water in a Super Soaker to defend the faith??

I’m immediately considering that for when we jump the first year students at the university at orientation this year.

I think we just found what the Ghostbusters should’ve been using all these years instead of proton packs.

Don’t you mean you’re holding a Holy Mace +3? (it’s really easy to get; you just bless it with holy water) 😉 …

While this isn’t particularly anti-Catholic. A pair of men walked into the electronics store beside my store, one wielding a 3 ft tall cross, both decrying electronics as the work of the Devil.

lol. While it’s not specifically anti-Catholic, I think it’s safe to say that it is presenting a falsehood as though it were the teaching of Christ. So, since Catholicism is the pillar and foundation of the Truth of Christianity, I do think it fits the general thrust of this thread… and so, as I do at all Anti-Catholic Whoppers, I laugh at it. 👍

interesting way to think of it!

Hmm let me think, I do live in the buckle of the Bible Belt, have been Mormon, Pagan, Pentecostal, so I have heard some good ones:
  1. OL of Guadalupe is really a goddess.
  2. The Vatican owns Bank of America and funds the Italian Mafia.
  3. The Vatican and the Mafia fixed the 1919 World Series.
  4. The Church helps bring illegal immigrants to the US in order to bring about the North American Union to start the New World Order.
  5. All Catholics are child molesters.
  6. All Catholics are going to hell because the Church moved the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday
  7. The Virgin Mary is really Isis in disguise.
  8. Catholic’s prayers are spells associated with Santeria and Voodoo.
9.The title of the pope of Rome is “Vicarius Filii Dei” which when converted to Roman numerals is 666, therefore making the Pope the Antichrist

That’s both hillarious and depressing. It’s like… the Catholic Church meets the Matrix…
IRA Member: “Bless me father for I have sinned: I have not killed any Protestant heretics today for I ran out of ammo last night.”
Priest: “My child, reach under the pew outside. The Lord has provided ammunition for all his soldiers. Go now, kill the infidels.”
::You hear a loaded pew-armory slide into place to meet the man’s needs.::
Why don’t people take even just a moment to check the verifiable facts that so easily disprove their wild allegations?

I just ran across one in the “Quick Questions” section of catholic.com:

“My non-Catholic friend says the Church omitted this verse [Acts 8:37, “If thou believes with all thine heart, thou mayest,”] in an effort to cover up the truth that baptism is not necessary for salvation.”

See, it’s not Luther who cut things out of the Bible. No… it’s the Catholic Church… uh-huh… :banghead:

“The Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon.”
I am sorry to admit, before I became Catholic, I used that one. Now I see the lie of it all, but back then I believed it. Of course I also believed that money could make you happy and that I was always right and everyone else was wrong. Suffice it to say, I have learned and grown a great deal.

🙂 Glad to see you’ve grown. 🙂 P.S. Welcome Home! 😃

This reminds me of watching films with my husband. He is one of those very practically minded people and when watching a film; such as Die Hard, he often says, ‘that gun only holds X number of bullets and he’s fired about 100.’ Or, ‘why is he doing that, it would be much better if he did this.’ I have to remind him, 'it’s not real it’s a film, the gun isn’t real, the people in it aren’t really getting killed and see that couple who have fallen madly in love - they are acting.
I may be veering off topic here, but it actually really irritates me when people say this. Expecting a fictional gun to work like a real gun unless it’s a plot point that the gun was magic or something isn’t the same thing as not knowing the difference between a movie and real life.

ahem But anyway, back to the whoppers.
  1. All Catholics are going to hell because the Church moved the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday
I had someone tell me that the Catholic Church moved the Sabbath to Sunday just to demonstrate the power and authority of the Church. My guess would be this person just misunderstood an explanation of why we worship/rest on Sunday, which I imagine would have mentioned something about Jesus having given His church the authority to make such a change.

This same person told me that the Church was basically the Roman Empire continuing in modern times, though. (In which case we’ve lost an awful lot of land… Does that still count as an empire?)
9.The title of the pope of Rome is “Vicarius Filii Dei” which when converted to Roman numerals is 666, therefore making the Pope the Antichrist
I seem to remember this one from the book Pope Fiction. As I understand it, not only is there no actual papal title that you can do this with, but you can do it with the name of the person who started the myth!

Regarding the whole “whore of babylon” thing, one that bugs me is the one about the whore being a city that sits on seven hills. Rome sits on seven hills! So the Roman Catholoc Church must be the whore!

Never mind that Rome isn’t the same as “The Vatican” (which as you know is synonymous with the Catholic Church  ), and while Rome apparently has seven famous hills, the one Vatican City sits on isn’t one of them.

I am still laughing about the 1919 World Series conspiricy theory. (I know I posted it, but it still cracks me up)
