Anti-Mormonism.....

That is a red herring. The real reason for the hatred of other Christians towards the Mormons is** that historical Christianiry, in all its shapes and forms and variations, is an apostate institution**; whereas Mormonism is a new dispensation of revealed religion, and a restoration of the true gospel of Jesus Christ in the latter days; and apostate religions have always hated and faught against true revealed relition, until they were defeated by it. In the process they have only managed to dig a pit for themselves in hell where they will abide forever.

Why can you come on this board calling all Catholics apostate, but if we call Joseph Smith a false prophet and a liar and Mormons part of an apostate salt lake city church we are “anti-mormons”? Aren’t you anti-Christian and especially anti-Catholic? I guess I’m trying to understand why it’s o.k. for you to call Catholics apostates and part of a false church with no label applied to you?

No, their persecutors are in hell, just as the persecutors of Mormons will be some day.

I am sure your wish will be granted.

zerinus
I’ll bet he stands a much better chance of Heaven then you do of becoming a God. I’ll give you whatever odds you want on that. 😃

Telling people they’re going to hell is beyond the pall, I don’t know why you are allowed to spew your trash on this board all day.

Zerinus has been frothing at the mouth more frequently lately.

I think his Mormon “mental shelf” is just about ready to collapse.

The Mormons on here are always whining about other religions condemning them to Hell, now Zerinus in his arrogance has done it twice in the last few posts.

🤷

Well…people shouldn’t be persecuted. I am squarely on the no persecution team.

But people should be told the truth about Mormonism, that it is not Christianity even though they make the false claim that it is.

Light is the best disinfectant… ya know?

I think I can turn that question around to you. Why shouldn’t I call Catholicism apostate, while you are free to apply worse labels than that to me and to the LDS Church and its founders? People living in glass houses should not throw stones. You treat others as you like to be treated.

I am not sure what you mean by “prophetic word”. LDS doctrine is determined by what is contained in the scriptural canon of the Church—the standard works. I have already discussed that in at some length in this post.

No! I would rather focus on the 99.99% of the stuff that they taught that were correct, than on the 0.01% that was mistaken.

See the above post I had linked to. You will find your answer given there.

I don’t know what you mean by that.

zerinus, I was really enjoying our conversation and had more to share with you but I believe contention has gotten in the way of dialogue. I find the way you respond to other posters surprisingly uncharitable. I will not leave myself open to such remarks so, regrettably, I am choosing to end our exchange.

Rest assured I remain open to dialogue with respectful Mormons (and there are many) on interesting and important topics like the one we were discussing.

I think that this thread I began proves my point. While catholics call the mormon church not christian and paint the first leader of the lds church negatively, I can honestly say that the devil is very happy. As christians fight among themselves, he can have dominion in people’s hearts. As catholics stress the ‘evils’ of mormonism, the devil has more control. Sadly, the battle is with secular humanism and its value structure as the pope has stated. It is not with mormons or other christians.

I have not attacked the catholic church once. Why? because there is no benefit to do so. The catholic church is certainly not my enemy but the secular atheism is. When the catholics on this thread and on the antimormon threads realize who is the real enemy, perhaps all christians, and yes, the mormons since they are christians too, can come together to make this world a better place.

And yet an anticatholic can also say: *People need to be told the truth about catholicism, that it is not christianity even though they make the false claim that it is. *

Yes, anybody can say anything they want to say. It’s a free country. However, the claim that Mormonism is a form of Christianity cant hold up under rigorous scrutiny. I believe it fails any sort of objective analysis on that point. Therefore no sort of ecumenical reaching out between brother Christians is appropriated and would serve only to validate the false claim that Mormons are Christians. This is especially true in light of the fact that Mormons actively proselytize people away from Christianity.

Well, this thread began with the inauspicious title of “Anti-Mormonism…,” and it rapidly turned into one; and I am afraid anti-Mormonism will have to be appropriated answered. If you have a specific subject you want to discuss with LDS, it might be better if you started your own thread on it.

Actually, you are wrong about that. Mormons actively proselytize people away from apostate Christianity.

95% of Mormon converts leave the Mormon Church after realizing they’ve been fed bunk…

Only the most ignorant Catholics leave the Church, while the most educated Mormons, Evangelicals etc… come and join it.

It looks like you have been fed with snake oil statistics.

Read this and see the antimormonism that has existed in the United Sates. I have to admit that it does ring true for this section of the forum. I have this feeling that some catholics here would fit right in with antimormon history. 😦 What say you?
Yes, we Catholics are terrible. It’s soo true. I for one am ashamed. Sometimes I want to stop going out of my way to seek out and needlessly persecute at least one Mormon each and every day, but whenever I go to Mass they make me feel soguilty if they ask me how many Mormons I tortured/mocked/etc for that week and I tell them “none”. One time I asked them if it’s okay to make friends with a Mormon, and they gave me 30 lashings in front of the whole congregation for daring to even suggest such a thing. They say that’ll learn me good not to associate with those despicable Mormons. It’s like I’m ostracized from the group until I go out and find even more Mormons to persecute that week and make up for it. And then that just makes things even worse and I’m back where I started. It’s such a vicious cycle and I don’t think I can stop myself!

Thanks.

I don’t want to ignore zerinus, he(?) has lots of valuable insight. I’m just making it clear I’m not interested in talking to him (or any poster) when his posts lack charity. When he’s back to his reasonable self I’ll gladly dialogue if he’s still interested.

I don’t mean to make a big deal of this but zerinus’ posts, while often helpful, can become a distraction in Non-Catholic Religions. I’m simply speaking out about such distractions as I am genuinely here to learn, not trade insults.

See post 91 above.

As always, Why Me’s posts are delightfully ambiguous.

I have not found it necessary to put Zerinus’s posts on ignore, I can ignore him without that convenience. However, if others find him unignorably obnoxious, please do. 😛

Maybe if you were able to provide some very specific examples of the anti-Mormonism you’ve found on this section of the forum we could all take a closer look.
