I think this thread has very neatly handled the question, with Zerinus’ help.
Ummm…lets see…where can I find antimormonism on this thread…ummmmmm…gosh its tough…ummmm…yep…I searching for it…:bigyikes:Maybe if you were able to provide some very specific examples of the anti-Mormonism you’ve found on this section of the forum we could all take a closer look.
Well, I must admit I do sympathize with Zerinus. Lets be honest…there are many antimormons here who refuse to see their antimormonism. That can be frustrating for most human beings. And yet, reading their posts I can see the unchristian nature of them. And so, it is frustrating…I think this thread has very neatly handled the question, with Zerinus’ help.![]()
I am a diplomat who is trying not to fall into the trap that the catholics have done. Being anti-something to make a point. Perhaps that is ambiguous but necessary. As always, Why Me’s posts are delightfully ambiguous.
I have not found it necessary to put Zerinus’s posts on ignore, I can ignore him without that convenience. However, if others find him unignorably obnoxious, please do.![]()
I think there is a danger of leveling the playing field by doing as you wish. “Mormonism is nice relgion”, “RCC is a nice religion” Same = same ( I am Eastern Orthodox btw) equal in dignity and a brother Church.Well, I must admit I do sympathize with Zerinus. I will give you a tip. I am a Mormon; but I am not complaining about anti-Mormonism on these boards; and neither should be. Anti-Mormonism is something that needs to be confronted head on, fought against, and defeated. It is not something that needs to be complained about. If you do not have the stomach or the amunition to confront it head on, fight against it, and defeat it; it is best to leave it alone. Taking a different course of action will be counterproductive.I am a diplomat who is trying not to fall into the trap that the catholics have done. Being anti-something to make a point. You have the ears of many Catholics right now and instead of providing specific, concrete examples of anti-Mormonism on this section of the forum, you’ve provided sarcasm. My guess is that you either have no wish to talk to me specifically or you are unwilling to work toward a solution to what you’ve presented as a serious problem.Ummm…lets see…where can I find antimormonism on this thread…ummmmmm…gosh its tough…ummmm…yep…I searching for it…:bigyikes:
I will give you a tip. In post #83 you said to me: “I find the way you respond to other posters surprisingly uncharitable”. If you would go back and take another look at those posts of mine which you considered to be “uncharitable,” and trace them back to their roots, you will be able to see “anti-Mormonism” in action. You have the ears of many Catholics right now and instead of providing specific, concrete examples of anti-Mormonism on this section of the forum, you’ve provided sarcasm. If you really wish to bring anti-Mormonism into the light, I suggest you do the following:
You’ve leveled a serious charge, you might want to back it up.
- Define anti-Mormonism using your own words.
- Provide specific examples that you’ve encountered here on CAF.

Prophets
As members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we are blessed to be led by living prophets—inspired men called to speak for the Lord, as did Moses, Isaiah, Peter, Paul, Nephi, Mormon, and other prophets of the scriptures. We sustain the President of the Church as prophet, seer, and revelator—the only person on the earth who receives revelation to guide the entire Church. We also sustain the counselors in the First Presidency and the members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as prophets, seers, and revelators.
Additional Information
Like the prophets of old, prophets today testify of Jesus Christ and teach His gospel. They make known God’s will and true character. They speak boldly and clearly, denouncing sin and warning of its consequences. At times, they may be inspired to prophesy of future events for our benefit.
We can always trust the living prophets. Their teachings reflect the will of the Lord, who declared: “What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same” (D&C 1:38).
Our greatest safety lies in strictly following the word of the Lord given through His prophets, particularly the current President of the Church. The Lord warns that those who ignore the words of the living prophets will fall (see D&C 1:14–16). He promises great blessings to those who follow the President of the Church:
Compass Interview, aired Nov. 9, 1997Now we don’t need a lot of continuing revelation. We have a great, basic reservoir of revelation
San Francisco Chronicle, Sunday Interview, April 13, 1997Let me say first that we have a great body of revelation, the vast majority of which came from the prophet Joseph Smith. We don’t need much revelation. We need to pay more attention to the revelation we’ve already received.
So the views or whatever guidance “the author” offers in his books-- and who is none other than the “President of the Church–prophet, seer, and revelator” HIMSELF and also “the only person on the earth who receives revelation to guide the entire Church”-- DO NOT NECESSARILY REPRESENT THE POSITION OF THE CHURCH ???THIS WORK IS NOT AN OFFICIAL PUBLICATION OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED HEREIN ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE AUTHOR AND DO NOT NECESSARILY REPRESENT THE POSITION OF THE CHURCH OR OF DESERET BOOK COMPANY."
This feigned indignation from Zerenius and Why Me’s apparent blindness to his/her hypocrisy is getting past absurd. If these Catholics are “anti-mormons” zerenius is a rabid anti-christian…Apr 2, '07, 12:22 pm Posts: 1,570

Only apostate Christians believe in what you call the Trinity. True Christians know better.

The Catholic Church is apostate anyway, to their ‘DUBIUM’ is as meaningless as their “baptism” is.

Your intelligence always was of the same caliber as your namesake. I can see that nothing has changed!

And let me state for you that if you reject Joseph Smith as a true prophet of God, and the divine messege he received from God, and do not repent of it in this life, you will be damned.

I was born and raised Mormon, and I’ve been through the temple. I was rather devout for quite a few years, but that all changed when I began research in old diaries and such.Greetings.
I am not sure, but is it true that Mormons think Jesus Christ is the brother of Satan? If this is what Mormons believe, can you elaborate in detail please? Thank you.
How different is that from the beginning of Catholicism? I’m not sure what your point is. The same is true of practically any religion’s beginnings. People are wary of anything new, especially when it strays from what is fashionable or “ordinary” at the time. And if ‘they’ were at fault…should a community be persecuted? I contend that antimormonism began extremely early, right from the beginning.
My point: it still continues on this board among people who consider themselves to be christian. And these same people can be victims of the same anticatholicism by members of protestant sects. How different is that from the beginning of Catholicism? I’m not sure what your point is. Both also had/have radical groups that cause(d) terrible tragedies involving the date September 11.Just to wake up the thread!
Amazing how much these two religions have in common.
1 .Muhammad and Smith were both visited by an angel that delivered their books, the Book of Mormon and the Koran.
2. Both were given angelic visions
3. Both were told no true religion was to be found on earth outside of theirs.
4. Both claimed to have received the “restored” gospel that was taken from the earth.
5.Both wrote a book that was inspired by Angels; Gabriel, for Islam and Moroni/Nephi for Mormonism.
6. Both stated that the books were returned to heaven to be with God.
7. Both claim their own holy book to be the most correct book on the earth, with no error.
8. Both Muhammad and Smith claimed to be the prophet of the restoration.
9.Both claimed to be persecuted due to their faith.
10. Both were polygamists.
11.Both borrowed from paganism/polytheism. Muhammad incorporated that polytheistic moon god called “Allah” and “Allah’s three daughters” into Islam. Basically Muhammad chose Allah from within 350 known gods that were worshipped in Arabia and proclaimed the moon god to be the greatest and only God. Smith borrowed from a doctrine called “pyramidology,” from the Masons, and other magic systems.
12. Both received “after-the-fact corrective revelations” from God. Islam retracted the satanic verses and Mormonism retracted the divine order mandating polygamy.
13. Immediately after the deaths of Muhammad and Smith, a fight broke out among “faithful converts” as to who would succeed their deceased leaders.
14. Both groups were plunged into irreparable division that has endured ever since. Islam and Mormonism both have squabbles among themselves as to which is the one true splinter group of their prophet!
15.Muslims claim that Jesus and the Apostles were actually Muslims, not Jews. Mormons claim that they are actually Jews from lost tribes, such as Ephraim.
Everyone wants to be the Original, but there can only be one Original.
All the rest are just a copy.
If a person googles ‘Encycolpedia of Mormonism’ and then puts into the search ‘war in heaven’ on the encyclopedia site, they will get a clearer picture about satan and christ and the plan of salvation.I was born and raised Mormon, and I’ve been through the temple. I was rather devout for quite a few years, but that all changed when I began research in old diaries and such.
Basically, the LDS doctrine states that we all lived before birth (aka: premortal existence) in a sort of heaven and we all are children of God (aka: Elohim), including both Jesus and Satan (though back then he was called Lucifer).
Satan and Jesus got in an argument about who was going to save the world, so God decided Jesus would. That’s when Satan had a temper tantrum and decided he was going to lead Jesus’ followers away. So, God sent Satan down to earth (not hell - in Mormonism, hell isn’t a location anyhow).
That about sums it up.
You will find your question already answered in this post. Enjoy the reading.Greetings.
