I will give you a tip. In post #83 you said to me: “I find the way you respond to other posters surprisingly uncharitable”. If you would go back and take another look at those posts of mine which you considered to be “uncharitable,” and trace them back to their roots, you will be able to see “anti-Mormonism” in action.

Thanks for responding to my post. My request was actually directed to the OP. I’m content to wait and see if whyme chooses to respond.

I don’t care whom your post was addressed to. It was a question relating to LDS matters, and I decided to answer it. I will respond to posts relating to LDS as I consider appropriate. I don’t care whether the poster likes me to or not. You have received the answer to your question.

The catholic church is certainly not my enemy but the secular atheism is. When the catholics on this thread and on the antimormon threads realize who is the real enemy, perhaps all christians, and yes, the mormons since they are christians too, can come together to make this world a better place.
The LDS send out fleets of missionaries world wide. Do you think, when they meet Catholics, they say, “Ah, you’re Catholic, that’s excellent, let’s band together and fight our common enemy, secular atheism.”?

The missionaries who come to my house try to convince me Mormonism is true. They also give me Talmage to read so that I can see Catholicism is false. Talk about “hostile”, “polemic opposition” (to quote your article).

And if ‘they’ were at fault…should a community be persecuted? I contend that antimormonism began extremely early, right from the beginning.
Nonsense mormonism taught that all other churches were of the devil and an abomination. This rabid anti-christianity by mormonism continued until very recently. The mormonism you know is probably not the same mormonism that your parents knew. Remember the temple endowment where satan puts a priest and a protestant pastor on his payroll? That part is gone now but it sure would be considered “anti” if you ask me.

Mormonism and Joseph Smith definitely cast the first stone. It doesn’t condone violence, but speaking back against it is definitely not “anti”.

you greatly overestimate your own importance here. everyone realizes that your answers represent only your own opinion and quite frankly tend to be meaningless.

I didn’t ask a question, I posted a request specifically for whyme, therefore it was impossible for you, zerinus, to give a sufficient response. That is why your response made no sense.

Thanks for your interest. My post to the OP stands unanswered.

In my mind, “antiMormonism” is a reaction to “Mormon Personality Disorder” or Narcissistic Personality Disorder, which is common among them.

History is only indirectly related to it, in that the Mormon view of history is so divergent from true history. For example, many Mormons believe that their ancestors were persecuted in the Nauvoo area only because of the practice of polygamy, and that therefore it was religious persecution. This is still taught in US schools, to please the LDS elite.

This is the root of “antiMormonism”, in my mind. So, whyme, please stop couching your questions about antiMormonism in terms of history. The objective study of history is not the cause of the problem, it is the cure, for both sides. My work with Dale is an example of such cooperation.

When people refuse to accept Mormonism are branded antiMormon, and are persecuted, this is denial of freedom of religion.

Inability to see things from the point of view of others seems to be characteristic.

From the LDS temple endowment film:
Lucifer: “I will buy up armies and navies, popes and priests, and reign with blood and horror on this earth!”
Every Mormon, when they saw that portrayal in the temple film, understood that the Catholic Church’s “popes and priests” have been “bought up” by Satan and are helping him to “reign with blood and horror on this earth”.

That is one of many examples of Mormonism’s institutionalized anti-Catholicism.

What is this? This can’t be serious. ‘Mormon Personality Disorder’ or Narcissistic Personality Disorder is common among the Mormons? Really? I look forward to your published work in a psychological journal. When will your theory be published? 🙂

What is true history? History can be debated. From the Mormon perspective, the persecution began immediately mainly because of difference. Religious leaders began to attack the ‘Mormon bible’ or the golden bible ,as these religious leaders called the book of mormon. Intolerance of religious difference caused the persecution long before polygamy. However, the persecution increased during the Nauvoo period, mainly due to prejudice and to polygamy. Now I will also admit, the the lds church or members did not help the situation by forming voting blocks but such is life in a ‘free’ country. One can see also occuring in the Hispanic community and in the black community and no one is burning them out.

So yes, religious practice played a part in the persecution as did the prejudice of the local community.

And who is to say that the religions at that time were not an abomination in the sight of god. Just look at what frontier christianity said of the Indian? Not exactly a loving church, right? And what about Blacks? Not exactly christian, right? The religions at that time were racist and insensitive to difference. I cannot say that god was happy with the protestant sects at that time. And I might add, the protestant sects weren’t exactly pro-catholic at that time either. Right? Would god be happy?

fist. it is every Roman Catholics duty to be against heresy. follow the teachings of Christ, live a dutiful christian life driven by the love of god. pay homage and love the virgin mother. obey the popes. follow the comandments and believe in the truin nature ie the most holy trinity. father son and holy spirit.
i am anti mormon only to the extant i am anti atheist or anti modernism or anti muslem or anti anything else which is contrary to the will and revealed word. this does not mean we must not have compassion but tolerence is a different matter. i think it is absurd for a mormon to come to caf and complain unending complainst about why this catholic apostate caf forum i sso anti mormon. is it because you-those like why me and zerineus have been banished from mormon boards who have little patience for dessent so you come here and whine? or is it the need for unending attention like a child who wants to be at the center of every converstaion? so my point is this.
yes christianity and roman catholicism is anti mormon for it to be anything else would be accepting heresy. get used to this. accept it and stop whining and then maybe more pople here will be interested to listin. alos to claim mormonism is christian is lying. lying is wrong. you should say what you truly are henotheistic–or whatever. but you certainly are not christian. shall we go through the requirments of what makes christianity christianity and say islam islam or hinuism hinduism or mormonism mormonism then maybe you will see that it is dishonest and smacks of diliberate manipulation to claim to be something your not only to get into peoples houses.
i hope this has found you well

That’s a strawman and you know it, the BofM was supposedly written thousands of years ago, so it is speaking of the historic Chrisitan churches (which were Catholic) creeds. What the Churches were like during frontier days has no bearing, not to mention mormons weren’t exactly pro-black or pro-indian either. Just read some of things Brigham Young said about blacks. And indians were a cursed race of people, who could become “white and delightsome” by becoming mormons. And the idea that priests are on satan’s payroll is nothing short of intollerant nonsense. This all started in the burnt over district, everyone hated Catholics, all the religions with “prophets” all had one thing in common, they all hated the Catholic Church, Mormons, SDA, Jehova’s Witness etc… Mormonism wasn’t unique in that regard. I wonder if it had anything to do with the increased tide of Catholics into the USA? HMMMM

I admit that protestants were rabidly anti-catholic too, but I can also admit that Catholics have been rabidly anti-protestant in the past and caused attrocities. You seem unable to see the world without the mormon persecution complex.

why me! i think it’s a joke to see a mormon lecture catholics on history. not to mention the historicity of the bible. can you honestly sit there and believe the book of mormon is what it claims? does not the striking errors in it and the mass coping of kjv mistakes even make you blink. why dont we have a serious discusion about the historical claims of mormonism? lets see you explain away the utter lack of anyhting remotely pointing to jews living in the new world or more to the point if smith got the book of mormon from an angel then gosh–angels sure make the same mistakes as do kjv translators–why oh why would this be.but sure lets talk about history.
christianity has never been a racist religion. on the contrary it was actually defined not by race but by creed unlike judiasm. there have been christian nations which partoke in the slave trade but so did pagan ones and almost all nations of the day. this was a gross injustice but it was not chrisitanity’ss doing. as for the indians well that too was a horrble injustice but as far as the aztecs and maya go not to mention the iroquios they certainly were not your run of the mill peace loving hippies were they? unless you will dismiss the heart eating and head chopping and slave driven in those civilizations.
i hope this found you well

Awwww. I started composing rebuttal in my mind, but by the time I got to the end of the thread, I realized there wsn’t much left to do.

Broadly, yes, there was ridicule of the “Mormon Bible”. However, specifically in the Nauvoo area, the issues were institutionalized adultery, and probably rape, abuse of property rights of both Indians and whites, and murders committed by Danites, and Joseph Smith’s mental problems and absolute rule by him and his closest associates. And his announcement of running for the presidency. “Polygamy” was just the last straw in the whole mess.

As for research into LDS and narcissistic personality disorder, I think it is long overdue. Excellent antidote to the Mormon persecution complex.

the silence is deafining. i’ve asked questions myself but alas no mormons will discuss. truth is a heavy burden. far easier to whine and blast catholics then to explore mormon lies. mmmmmm

There is nothing to stop the Catholic Church from sending out missionaries to Mormons. I promise you that they will receive a good reception! 🙂
The missionaries who come to my house try to convince me Mormonism is true.
Why did you miss such a great opportunity to convince them that Catholicism is true? 🤷
They also give me Talmage to read so that I can see Catholicism is false. Talk about “hostile”, “polemic opposition” (to quote your article).
I find that hard to believe. Most modern missionaries have not even heard of the book. That book belongs to a bygone age.

Now wouldn’t it be better if we would all sing a Beatles song and all ‘come together’ as brothers and sisters in Christ regardless of doctrine? Can we not all live together without mocking the others faith?

I would hope so.
It would be better for the Mormons to be koshered in this way, that we are all Brothers in Christ. But the objective truth is that we arent. Mormons pose as Chrstians but they are by no means Christians in any sense of the term… To yeild that point to them is a grave mistake
