Anti-Mormonism.....

It would be better for the Mormons to be koshered in this way, that we are all Brothers in Christ. But the objective truth is that we arent. Mormons pose as Chrstians but they are by no means Christians in any sense of the term… To yeild that point to them is a grave mistake
Lets leave it up to Christ to decide if my daughters (as Mormons)are christians. I do believe that he may say yes. For after all, they pray to heavenly father ever day in the name of Jesus Christ. Plus, they read the bible and know it quite well. Plus, they eat and drink the body and blood of christ every sunday. Plus, they attempt to live the commandments and keep the body holy.

I am sure that Christ would find them to be his followers. 🙂 Unless of course, you have inside information? 🤷

Mormons pray to one of their many gods, whom they call “Heavenly Father”, They pray in the name of the mormon “jesus” whom they regard as just a lesser “god”, They read a bastardized version of the bible, that only they regard as authentic. They drink water and eat crackers in a parody of the Holy Eucharist, the Eucharist whom no mormon “priest” has the power to confect. The whole charade is merely a poorly conceived imitation of true christianity. Anti-mormon? No…anti falsehood, anti deception, anti heresy, anti cult. Why me and zerinus, you are purveyors of a false religion and all your twisting and spin will not make it true.

My point: it still continues on this board among people who consider themselves to be christian. And these same people can be victims of the same anticatholicism by members of protestant sects.

Now wouldn’t it be better if we would all sing a Beatles song and all ‘come together’ as brothers and sisters in Christ regardless of doctrine? Can we not all live together without mocking the others faith?

I would hope so.
Great! Let’s train the Mormon missionaries to sing “Everyone’s Beautiful” when they come to the door. Then they can say to Mr. Brown:

**Elder: Mr. Brown, my name is Elder Love and I am a representative of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Are you a member of a local church?

Mr. Brown: Yes. I belong to Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church and attend mass every week.

Elder: That is wonderful! I hope you continue to love the Lord as we do! Have a great day!
**

If the Mormons ever do that as they go door to door then we might all be able to sing Kumbaya together. Perhaps if they just took their message to those who weren’t already Christians they might have a little more sympathy from non-Mormon Christians.

why me. unless your daughters go to a Catholic church and recieve the body and precious blood then i am sorry to brake this to you there getting nothing but --duped. and if they did go to a catholic church and recieve then they would be in mortal sin anyway. the point is this sounds a bit post modern. like that painting we all get to know first year philosphy you know the painting of a pipe which says this is not a pipe. well this is a bit reversed in the sense that we have mormons who ARE IN NO WAY CHRSITIANS saying WE ARE CHRISTIAN! but reality is reality and no matter how much you screwam it it just aint so. christianity is a well defined religoion. it has very spacific characteristics and mormonism besides the hijacking of jesus the christs name just doenst fit. does monotheism mean anything to you? why do mormons keep claiming to be something they are not? unless there are hidden motives at work hear.
but why me and zerinus. christ wants you to be christian. he loves and wants you to go to the closest catholic church and fall to your knees and cry and seek forgiveness for your sins. he wants to save you but you firs tmust take his hand. then i will be the first to call you brother and christian.

There is no way you can reconcile Mormonism with Christianity, either Mormonism is “true Christianity” and Catholicism is some pagan hellenized mystery religion (like zerenius believes). Or Catholicism is the true Christian Church and Mormonism is a magical, surperstitious, polytheistic religion. There simply can’t be an in between. The two can not be reconciled. It has nothing to do with how nice the people are etc… I know very nice Hindu’s they aren’t Christian either.

It isn’t “anti” anything to say that, it’s a fact Mormonism and traditional Christianity are so far apart of the very core beliefs of their respective religions to call them the same seems nothing but foolish.

yes it would be. but then why not discuss what mormonism realy is. i believe the proper term is henotheistic. as opposed to monotheistic as opposed to atheistic as opposed to plythesitic. etc.
to believe in gods other then the truin one is not christian. but now i think we are smoking a dead pipe–oh my.
every time i try to talk withmormons as i live very close to one of there temples or what not as soon as i engage in rational discusion either of linguistics in regards to kjv translation errors in book of mormon or basic theology just like on this forum they become mute. i find that interesting considering as a roman catholic i wil engange anyone either on the davinci bull or historical validity of sacred scripture there silience speaks more then my words.
i know there is plenty of spelling mistakes english is not my first tongue hope no one is cringing

Why Me:

At the risk of seeming extremely rude, I suggest you give up and agree to disagree. Asking why people don’t like Mormons and then getting upset when they tell you the truth is, quite frankly, somewhat illogical to me (that is, unless you’re trawling–or, dare I say “trolling?”–for personal examples of how Mormons continue to be persecuted. If that’s the case, then well done!).

Further, the article whose link you posted seems less like an attack on Mormons than it is an impartial history of its persecution in the United States. I think we can all agree that the article does show terrible things have been done throughout history in the name of religion.

Lastly, while I personally have no problems with Mormons, I can see how it could be construed as cult-like during its first inception. Does that mean it has remained cult-like up until today? That I cannot venture an opinion on, as I really don’t know many Mormons myself (other than the ones who keep knocking on my door, and the only reason I don’t like THEM is because they always do so at the worst moment, like when I’m on the phone, in the bathroom, or finally managing to watch that episode of Law & Order I’ve never seen. It’s almost…uncanny… wow, they really ARE a cult!)

Actually that would be torn up white Wonder bread…usually without the crusts!👍

I’ve heard of many members getting in trouble for purchasing wheat bread.:dts:

I don’t mind people not liking mormons. I can live with that. But when so called christians behave in a way that is unchristian, well, that is different. I also understand that on a board like this, some people care about doctrine and belief. However, the catholics that I know at my local parish don’t care what mormons believe and seem to have no problems with mormons or its doctrine. And so, I know that the majority of catholics, I believe, admire and respect the mormon faith including one priest who wrote a wonderful pamphlet on the mormons and the mormon chuch. It is being sold in some parishes.

I am not trolling but I did try to give the other side of the coin to a board that can be onesided.

the silence is deafining. i’ve asked questions myself but alas no mormons will discuss. truth is a heavy burden. far easier to whine and blast catholics then to explore mormon lies. mmmmmm
Well, I can tell you exactly why that is, having been raised Mormon. These sorts of questions are uncomfortable and the average member has no clue how to answer them as they aren’t discussed at church - primarily because they are uncomfortable topics.

I get fed up with people tossing the word “cult” out into the fray. From most religious perspectives, any other religion is a cult anyhow, so accusing a religion of being a cult is rather pointless. Just try looking up the definition of the word sometime, and I think you’ll find that it’s applicable to whatever religion you belong to. When Christianity began, it was considered unorthodox, extreme, and unconventional to the rest of society, not to mention the charismatic leaders who created it. The same is true of the origins of probably any religion you might research. We all have our rituals, even if we prefer to call them by some other term (sacraments, priesthoods, ceremonies, blessings, prayer, and so on). Come up with your own interpretations if you like, but in all reality, I doubt if I’ll ever find a religion that couldn’t be classified as a cult.

In the catholic faith, members go to Mass. I go to Mass. After mass, there is no sunday school or catechism where ideas are exchanged. It is only the mass and perhaps a little refreshments after the mass if the parish does such a thing. No ideas are being discussed at all. No history is being disussed. No understanding of the ‘bad’ popes and what they did etc.

In the lds faith, lds members attendtwo meetings beside their sacrament meeting: Sunday School and Preisthood/Relief Society as you know. There some discussion takes place as to doctrine. True, not everything is dicussed but still we have discussions based in the manuals and they can be quite thorough.

And so, I have no idea why the catholics on this board complain about mormon secrecy. I have never been to any discussion about catholic church history or doctrine as an adult. Nor as any ever been advertized in the parish or parishes that I have been to.

Now when I was younger, I did go to catechism to prepare for communion and confirmation. But after that, nothing was available. And I also know what I learned in catechism at that time was faith affirming. The difficult questions were not discussed.

Such is a life in contradiction as experieced on this board. 🤷

why me i am sure there is an rcia program near you. phone the local catholic church and meet with a priest. or stick around this oard and listen and learn. not all ctholics have what it takes to debate theology but every devoute catholic would be pleased to talk with you about anything in regards to his/her faith. its mormon silence when it comes to serious questions that bug me. we catholics certainly do not act in that way. stop the red hearrings

Mormons do not believe their sacrament is the real body and blood of Christ. They are horrified at the thought of that. Mormons clearly teach their sacrament is only symbolic. Any suggestion the bread and water are the real body and blood of Christ would be blasphemous to them.

I gotta be honest your constant calling out people for un-chrsitian behavior is getting tedious, think of how many times you curse people under your breath, hate someone, ridicule, gossip, drink too much, look at pornography and get off your high horse already buddy and stop refering to people as “so called Christians”. (like someone has to be perfect to be a Chrisitian?)

How many posts can you start and stir the point in? I mean you start topics like “what’s with all the rampant anti-mormonism on the board”, then post 50 times in it stirring the pot what do you think you’re going to get? You know how message boards are.

People are people, and zerenius is a person that gets under peoples skin and is just as anti-catholic as we are “anti-mormon”. So seriously enough with this nonsense. I knew you on MADB when you were a Mormon and more than once you were incredibly critical of catholics stemming from your experiences of your youth. Many of these folks are ex-mormons and no different from you, when you would mock the eucharist and say how the priest let you eat the leftovers.

To many Jews, “baptized” has a greater emotional reaction because to them — and me — to posthumously baptize a Jew is to rape his soul.

Perhaps you would fit right in also during the early 19th century. However, a merciful heart is a beautiful possession. It brings peace and understanding and compassion.
Being merciful does not mean denying the Truth. If you love someone and they are addicted to drugs you do not help them get more drugs or even ignore that they have a problem. You tell them what they are doing is wrong and offer any help you can to end the behavior.

So, you have a decided opinion about Christians acting unchristian. I think that’s a great thing, and I think more effort on the part of Christians to get their fellows to practice what they preach is admirable, so I wish you the best of luck.

HOWEVER, given your previous posts, it seems that the only unchristian behavior you have issue with is what has been done to Mormons. You have said nothing against the horrors inflicted upon Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, and every Christian sect in existence because they worship a different god (or gods), or worship the same god in a different way. It seems as if the only religion you care about being persecuted is Mormonism.
I also understand that on a board like this, some people care about doctrine and belief.
Actually, isn’t the whole idea of religion about believing in its doctrine and belief? I think the problem you’re butting up against is that “boards like this” exist for those people who want to discuss doctrine and belief, and you have to expect to get pelted with a few rotten tomatoes if you purposely question people about that doctrine and belief…
I am not trolling but I did try to give the other side of the coin to a board that can be onesided.
Providing the other side of the coin is essential to discussion, and I personally don’t fault you for it. What I do fault you for it is your position seems to be less one of “Mormons really aren’t as bad as you think, and wouldn’t it be nice to stop stomping all over them,” and more “y r u so m3an to M0rMon$? I h8 u u suk!!11!”

Or similar.

i take exception to this statement. as i am of the mind that these horrors you speak of were most likely done out of political economic or social greed. its too easy to blame religion and very manipulative to blame christianity for these atrocities. i am not saying non were commited due to religion what i am saying is to allways say so provides a convinient smoke screen for the true causes. for instance when discussing the roman empire i never see poeple say the roman empires conquest were the direct result of the plythesitic religions being practised in the empire. on the contrary its usualy put in economic expansionist terms etc. so to be blunt christianity did not do these atrocities poeple did. to say otherwise is misleading.
i hope this has found you well

Kent Bylund received death threats from Mormons unhappy with the effort
Kent Bylund, a Mormon who owned land at the site in southwestern Utah, has seen a shift in attitude. Tapped by Mormon President Gordon Hinckley to head up construction of a memorial in 1999, Mr. Bylund turned to the local Mormon community for donations of time and money.

But Bylund also received death threats from Mormons unhappy with the effort. And when a backhoe accidentally dug up a shovel full of bones, distrust of the church flared among victims’ relatives. Finally, at the dedication ceremony, Mr. Hinckley offered words of healing to the descendants, but punctuated them with a legalistic disclaimer of any church responsibility.

His 2002 book on the massacre, “The Blood of the Prophets,” argues that evidence points to Brigham Young hatching the plot to scare the US from its march to war. Religious leaders then used Mormon imagery of apocalypse and vengeance to whip up subordinates.

Like Mr. Bagley, the new movie “September Dawn,” puts the blame on top Mormon leaders and religious fanaticism, at times using heavy-handed contrasts with the protestant piety of the immigrants.

The forthcoming history written by three Mormon authors sees many universal – rather than just Mormon dynamics at play. The book looks at other atrocities in different cultures and finds commonalities with Mountain Meadows, including the tendencies to demonize outsiders during times of war. But the religion played a role: “There were statements made both in Salt Lake City and by local leaders down in southern Utah that tended to inflame emotions,” says coauthor Ron Walker. “To that extent, … there is a measure of culpability.”
