WhyMe, do you believe in objective truth? That there is an over-arching truth?

I admit that we might all be wrong, but we can’t all be right either… and I put my money on Jesus and His words.

I don’t have a problem with someone telling me that their church has the fullness of that objective truth… I just won’t agree with them. If the Mormon church is true as some would claim, there is nothing to fear from a little opposition.

RAR
Thank you. Let me assure you that the “opposition” is not “little,” and the LDS Church is not “afraid” of it at all. Confronting it does not mean that we fear it.

Yes there are Multiple accounts… just like there are Multiple contradicting accounts of Pauls vision as well. And as far as Character goes… I wouldn’t listen to any religious leader who hadn’t spent a little time behind bars.

Take a look at how many times early Christian leaders where thrown into Jail. Peters a self convicted Liar and fugitive from the Law. When one of the officers whom he assualted with the Sword the Lord told him to buy recognized him… he simply Lied.
I find JS actions significantly worse and see no reason to place any faith in him. Obviously you adhere to the current LDS version of him and certainly that is your right…BUT…do not expect many here to accept that viewpoint.

why me,

Your response to that email surprises me. Don’t you realize what this site was created for? It was created for defending our faith (the Catholic faith ONLY) and refuting other faiths (Mormonism being only one example). Do you expect an email supporting Mormonism and encouraging Catholics to convert to Mormonism?

You also say the Catholic Church would never support an email like that. But, if you read the email you notice a lot of the emphasis on the Mormon church is that Catholics are a majority of their converts and we need to do something about that. So, the Catholic Church would not support keeping its members from converting to another church? I seriously doubt it.

Why would the Catholic Church not support an email that is meant to raise awareness that many many Catholic may be losing their salvation?

This is email is being spread by catholics. I have to feel sorry for these catholics who have lost their way from Chirst:

Confronting the New Mormon Threat

Why the rise of Mormonism could harm our fellow Catholics if we don’t act now.

Think the Mormons are just a group of nice folks who uphold family values, clean living, and American patriotism? Think again.

Think the Mormons are just a strange offshoot of Protestant Christianity? Think again.

Think Mormons are actually Christian? Think again!

The truth is, Mormonism is far different from what most people think it is.

If asked, most Catholics would not be able to explain what Mormons believe. Nor do they have a clue what’s wrong with Mormonism.

And therein lies the danger–especially today, as Mormonism is enjoying a resurgence in popularity and interest, in part because of election news coverage.

But the news media aren’t providing useful information about Mormonism.

This worries me–because the majority of converts to Mormonism are ill-informed Catholics who are highly vulnerable to Mormon proselytizing.

That’s why Catholic Answers is now sprinting into action to head off a potential disaster among our fellow Catholics.

And we’re going to need your help to make this new project successful.

Here’s what it’s all about…

It seems that Catholic Answers is responsible. If true, I have to wonder about this organization:

Facts about the Mormon Threat

FACT: In 1984, sociologist Rodney Stark predicted that the Mormon church would grow at a rate of 30%-50% per decade for the next several decades, reaching from 70 million to possibly as high as 280 million members by the year 2080. He said it would be “the first new major world religion since Islam.”

Indeed, from 1984 to 2000, the church actually grew at an average rate of 52% per decade, outpacing the upper bound on Stark’s prediction.

FACT: When Mormon missionaries make their first contact with a person in the home of a Mormon friend or relative, a conversion will result 50% of the time.

FACT: Each year, the Mormon church baptizes 300,000 converts. (That’s 800 a day–or another million every three years.) Half or more of them are Catholics.

The time to act is now–or we risk losing many Catholics to the Mormon faith in the decade ahead.

Simply put, we must not allow false teachers to mislead Catholics. Yet that’s exactly what Mormon theology is doing, even as you read this letter.
Won’t you please make a special sacrifice and send your gift of $35 … $75 … or perhaps $150 or more today for this important project and all the good works of Catholic Answers.

I hope that it is a sick joke! 😊
So you’re worried about a Catholic group who wants to educate Catholics about the Mormons, whose church is founded on the supposed apostacy of the Catholic Church?

I thank God every day for Catholic Answers and Catholic Radio.

I thank God for finally opening the Vatican Library to the world so we can see just how far they have vered to the left over the last 2000 years.

I don’t mind people discussing the gospel and who is right and who is wrong but I also know that nothing really comes of it. In terms of the email, it was just a little over the top. I am sure that it is real because catholic answers have not denied it on this section of the forum.

The mormon faith like the catholic faith comes from a foundation of what they perceive to be truth. They have a restoration story. It is actually an unique story and an interesting one. Likewise for the catholic faith, tracing their roots back to Peter.

But the email was not a good email. And I assume catholic answers sponsored it. In my original post I did have my doubts and so, I wrote that I hoped it was a sick joke. But it looks like CA sent it.

If the mormon apologetic people sent out an email, their would be heck to pay from this forum. And rightly so.

Considering, it’s all true, whats your problem with it?
The wording and tone. It sounds like fear mongering. Something that goes back into early mormon history when the mormons were being run out of town by the mobs and people were spreading around such tracts to the local non-mormon people.

Your initial post said . This implies that you received the email or had first hand knowledge that catholics were indeed culpable in a spurious act. Now yousay that you just copied the post.

I have no reason to cantact Karl Keating and broach this topic. I neither recieved the EMAIL nor have any first hand knowledge of it. You are the one who is making accusations as if you were personally affronted …

Rumor and innuendo … so you posted something without knowing whether the presentation was 100% accurate [unedited] …

Well perhaps you should have contacted the person who posted the email on the other board …
People on this forum also received the email. I have no idea why some people got it and others didn’t. Perhaps I should have checked the source but as you can see Catholic Answers is being rather silent about this thread and so, I would need to assume that they would be silent about my inquiry.

I hope that it is false. But I doubt it. The moderating team would have responded by now if it were false. That is only my opinion.

I think that fear mongering is never good. We can see from history just where fear mongering against another group can lead. But lets hope that catholic answers didn’t send it.

And of course, if the email were sent by catholic answers they are now getting more publicity for their letter and perhaps more donations.

It would seem that I did them a service by posting the email. I would also assume that those individuals who did get the email could donate by clicking the section of the email where it says to ‘donate here’. All this could be checked.

I think those growth figures are ludicrous. 280 Million? I know there’s a sucker born every minute, but there are only so many gullible people in the world. The Church of Scientology will reach that mark before Mormons do. I think they’re probably competing for the same base.

I thank God for finally opening the Vatican Library to the world so we can see just how far they have vered to the left over the last 2000 years.
The Church is not a political organization. It teaches the faith, and condemns what is contrary to it.

The Church is not a Political Entity?

Hmmm… not according to Constantine. 😉

Your Friendly Neighborhood Methodist must tell you: There is not one thing in this letter that I can find fault with. (Admittedly, I am a little weak on current statistics, but the last ones I read were in line with those quoted here…)

It’s a thoughtful, well-written statement of some very scary facts. Some false teachers (like Mormons) are:banghead: especially dangerous,IMO, because they use just enough Christian vocabulary to:crying: suck in those who are not well-instructed.
(Mind you, I think a call for some prayers for these bewildered folks would not go amiss…)

If this is an authentic e-mail I see nothing wrong with it. Seems pretty up front. Alot of false teaching out there and we need to know about it. Some Protestants say the same thing, like The Bible Answer Man Hank Hanegraff.

Comrades, we need to confront the mormon threat. The mormons are taking over our great country. If we are not viligent, the mormons by 2050 will number 50 million. Comrade catholics, we must do something about the great mormon threat.

Do you want your catholic neighborhood overrun by mormon scoundrels who worship the con man Joseph Smith? No, Of course not! Do you think that mormons are a group of people who uphold good clean family values and clean living? Think again! Do you think that mormons are just a peaceful group of human beings content to worship their faith in harmony and freedom, Think again! Do you think that mormonism is just another form of christianity? think again!

Comrades, the time has come to confront this menace in our society. Over one hundred and sixty years ago we dealt with this menace by driving them out of our neighborshoods.

Now is the time to act!!!

Doesn’t it sound awful and of course there is nothing to prevent such a tract from appearing. But it is also hate literature. 😊

If I had written the letter it would have been much more stronglly worded.

As someone who can read Egytian I am still looking for a mormon who will debate with me about the “reformed Egytian” garbage that Smith put out.

As a Native American, I demand an apology from every mormon I meet in regards to lying about my ancestory.

As a Christian I demand an apology from every mormon for trying to hijack our name, our church and our savior and lying about Jesus.

As someone who is Not White, I demand an apology from every mormon for their racist beliefs and policies.

As an American Citizen I demand an apology from every mormon for dishonoring and defaming America’s reputaion around the world.

As I husband I demand an apology from every mormon for their disrespect of women.

As a father I demand an apology from every mormon for their support of abortion and contraception.

As a human being I demand an apology from every mormon for the large number of killing that they have committed as well as the great harm to society in general that they continue to purpotrate.

As a pedestrian I demand an apology from every mormon for the reckless and dangerous way the ambiguously gay duo of missionaries ride their bikes up and down my street hitting pregnant women and old people with canes.

As an art lover I demand an apology from every mormon for the down right disgusting statue of Jesus that they have on their website.

Let us all join together and stop the mormons before they ruin the world. We could stop the Nazis but obviously God is telling us that we aren’t finished yet.

why me and Claudius, both of your last posts are ugly and confrontational. why me, your “CA tract” is over the top and utterly fictional. Claudius, your jabs at individual Mormoms, especially the young missionaries, are just cruel, and the comparison to Nazis is well over the top. I disagree vehemently with Mormon “theology” but all my experience is that individual Mormons are nice people who have been seriously misled.

This whole letter thing, really!!

Not that I disagree with the basic contents of the letter but it probably wasn’t sent by a Catholic.

This is yet another example of the mormon oppressors to cry “but we are really the victims”. all over again.

Some mormon college student probably made this letter up late one night just so he could have something, anything to complain about. It reminds me of the picture in the monastery in Greece of the Pope presiding over an execution when no such event ever took place. You can’t find anything legitimate to complain about so you have to make things up. Way to go mormon babies. WahWahWah, you want us to call you Christian so bad but don’t actually want to practice Christianity, oh I feel so sorry for you. Grow up, be a man and stop spouting lies.
