Well done! Stay focused, and it is yours. The day I earned my black belt is one I will never forget. Your life is forever changed, and many things once thought difficult will seem far easier.
The test is brutal and lasts at least two days. As an example of the fun involved, the student has to do 125 pushups, 250 sit ups, 1,000 jumping jacks, five minutes of low horse stance with a bo staff resting on their thighs, and run anywhere from 2-5 miles before actual testing starts.

Knowing what you face is half the battle. My test was kept secret. You don’t know what you’ll face until you get there, and none of us will speak of it afterwards, so every candidate has that experience.

We just know what the basic test requirements area. Beyond that, the test is modified to push each individual in certain areas, and addition to various elements that are not revealed to us at our current level.

It’s a great time in your development as a martial artist. I started to discover my own style, so to speak, my favorite weapons. All good fun!

We’re already starting to learn the basics of the “soft” weapons, like the chain whip, which are black sash weapons in our system. They’re a lot of fun if you know what your doing; not so fun if you don’t…evidenced by the lump on my head 😃

I have switched to Krav Maga.
I am seriously considering Krav Maga or Commando Krav Maga. I did Taekwondo for a while and lost interest because of how it was more focused on competition than actual self defense.

If I could find a reputable instructor nearby I’d do it in a second.

May I know the name of the Chinese martial art you are doing? Yeah tests/gradings are brutal but the feeling you get on completion is one of the best things in life, IMHO

It’s two systems: Fa Men Chuan and Shaolin Lohan. Fa Men Chuan is well known in places like Puerto Rico, Columbia, and Mexico. There are very few schools that teach it here in the U.S.
