Any country music fans?

Though I have come to tolerate and even appreciate some country music, it remains towards the bottom of my list of music I like to hear. At my workplace there we sort of take turns on what will be played on the radio/CD player for background music. I work the late swing shift (from 9 pm to 5:30 am) and that music helps keep me awake and focused.

My supervisor likes country and I encourage her to play it in a spirit of fairness. Also, the few remaining close living relatives I have love country music and play it most of the time too.
 
More and more to me, today’s country music would be considered Southern Rock about 30 years ago.
There are A LOT more drums and screaming guitars.

My generation that liked grew up with Souther Rock, or just Rock in general are now grown up into the roles of executive producers and managers. They are putting their musical imfluences on today’s artists.

I wonder hat country music is going to sound like 20 years from now?

I have always been a fan of classic rock, and I too recently have become a fan of country music! Especially Texas country…
 
Country 'til I die… although defining it these days seems to be getting harder and harder (country, that is, not dying!)

“The Streets of Heaven” is performed, by the way, by Sherrie Austin, not Chely Wright. I originally thought it was by Lee Ann Womack (who sounds VERY classic to me!)

I’m a big fan of “classic” country–Marty Robbins is one of my all-time favorites, along with Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, etc. But I love some of the “new” classics–Alabama is still the greatest band in country music, followed by Diamond Rio (I love their song “I Believe”… sends chills down my spine!), Vince, Reba, Clint, Alan, Dwight, Randy… don’t even have to give their last names, do I?

My favorite tear-jerker songs are “He Didn’t Have To Be” by Brad Paisley (had to pull the car over and bawl the first time I heard that one), “Teddy Bear” by C.W. McCall, “Travelin’ Soldier” by the Dixie Chicks (about the only Dixie Chicks song I like), “Almost Home” by… oh, rats, is it Joe Nichols? Nah, don’t think so, but my mind just went blank!

But for romantic, lovey-dovey songs, give me John Michael Montgomery every time! Not only do his love songs really touch me, but he’s quite the gorgeous guy, too! My husband and I just love “Home To You”, “Rope The Moon”, and one off his Greatest Hits Album called “One Day Less”. He’s singing the song to his wife on their anniversary and the chorus goes:

One true friend
That’s what you’ve always been to me
One true friend
That’s all that I want to be
To have someone to love you
That’s true happiness
May you live to be a hundred
May I live one day less

Anyhow, that’s my $2 worth!

(I just ordered a book over the Internet that will list EVERY hit song from 1944-2001.

I am a trivia nut when it comes to country music.

I have to agree with you that Alabama, and Diamond Rio are the best groups ever.
“Beautiful Mess” is my fav of Diamond Rio.

There is a current song out that I really like now, it’s “Don’t Ask Me How I Know” by Bobby Pinson.

I do like country music and you are right alot of it is generally favorable to traditional values and Christianity…although alot of it’s focus is sometimes divorce, cheating, etc… but hey some pretty good toons :D…I dont like that about it but it happens. I dont particularly like mainstream country music…and maybe it’s because I’m from Texas but I like a lot of whats called “Texas Music” “Americana”…and is not just country…I like music alot and have a huge huge music collection. I stand corrected… I was listening to C.W. McCall’s “Roses for Mama” (another tear-jerker) and got the two artists confused!

Did you hear that one during Mother’s Day weekend? I was hoping to hear that song and the station I was listening to didin’t play it.
 
Yes, I did. Heard Jimmy Dean’s “I.O.U.” also. This was the Sunday morning classics show.

Have you heard Randy Travis’ newest one? I think it’s called “Angels”. Also heard it on Mother’s Day.

The local station here out of Geneva, Ohio (WKKY 104.7) has been playing that song for a whole month now. The ‘big corporate country station in Cleveland’ has not…I don’t listen to that station in Cleveland.

I wish the local station here (WKKY) would go over the Internet…it’s a great station. They play about 40% oldies mixed in with the current music.

Corry Morrow, Pat Green, Rodney Carrington etc… love Gretchen Wilson, Julie Roberts, Wynonna, Jo De Messina and of course the man! George Straight! my and hubbys wedding song was to “I cross my heart”

I just bought the 2 CD set, George Strait’s 50 #1’s. If YOU are a serious George Strait fan, GET IT! I went to Sam’s Club and got it for $17.99. (Good price for a double CD set)
 
I love to walk to country music…The beat is always good…even when the song is a “slow” one. I’ve just discovered Buddy Jewell (“Help Pour Out the Rain”), and often walk to his first album…He has just released a new one, and I plan to get that one, too.

We have a couple of great country music stations in the Cincinnati area…I listen to 96.5 The Star when I walk. Keeps me moving, for sure!

Earlier in this thread, I posted a website that gives some links to country stations that Streamlink over the Internet.
My brohter used to live in the Dayton area and I am sure the stations are changed since 1990.

I tend to like my stations to have a LARGE variety of music…not ALL hits or more recent songs (those 5 years or newer).
I tend to play the songs I have in my hard drive when I get tired of the radio here).
WIth over 1300+ songs on my hard drive, I just select ‘shuffle’ in my Windows Media Player and the variety begins.

Currently I like Boby Pinson’s “Dont Ask Me How I Know”. Brad Paisley’s “Alcohol” and Sugarland’s “Something More”.

Here’s one. I like most types of music, but country has gotten to be one of my favorites.
 
Dude, my entire group of friends (well, the cool ones at least:)) listen to country DAILY! it’s the greatest music out there:) we listen to 98.5 KYGO, and they have this contest going on where they give away tons of money…my mom and I had the number on speed dial this morning because they were giving away 15 grand…the birthday that was randomly drawn was ONE day off my mom’s b-day…funny thing, i thought it was her b-day, so I dialed the number:) it took a lot of screaming, jumping, and mass hysteria before she could get me off the phone:)

anyway…I was raised on Garth Brooks…though I have to say that Big n Rich, rascalflatts, and Brad Paisley are my current favorites:)

I have just started listening to country music this year. (recovering metal fan here) THe first time that I heard Big n Riches Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy I almost fell out of my chair. I I love them. I also like Gretchen Wilson for the line, “…I aint never been the barbie doll type.” from Red Neck Woman. As a nonbarbie doll type, I can relate. I love Toby Keith and Trace Atkins. LIke I said, I am just getting into country.
