I posted on a similar thread several weeks ago.
I am 36, married, four kids… and I love metal music. Always have, always will.
Used to play in several bands… bass player/vocals in some and just vocals in another.
My favorite metal bands run the gamut, but I am not going to say that I avoid certain bands because of lyrical content… that would make me a hypocrite.

No, I listen to whatever is appealing to me, of course I do not LET music influence my actions or thoughts. That is the difference. It’s just music, regardless of lyrics.
I listen to anything and everything from cheezy pop metal (hair band glory days galore) to the most brutal death-core metal you can imagine, but in between I even listen to Backstreet Boys if I want to. Good songs are good songs and every different song ads to the soundtrack of my life.
I could start of my day with a nice dose of Strapping Young Lad, Faith No More, Stryper, Jelly Jam and Iron Maiden and throughout the day fill my ears with the likes of Black Sabbath, Killswitch Engage, Northern Kings, Mortification, Rammstein, Puya and Dragonforce… and then end my day with Simon and Garfunkel or the soundtrack to Last of the Mohicans. It’s all good to me.
Enjoy a good head banging… enjoy the melody and harmony and the occasional screaming vocals.
Go for the ear piercing ‘Viking shrieks’ or the guttural ‘cookie monster growls’… go for the Drop D tuning or the standard presets… whatever the music may be, just make it what it is… ‘an entertainment… NOT a lifestyle to model your personality by’.
ok… that’s it from me.
